Time for a new HRM??
I got a Polar HRM last christmas. Lately I have been finding that I really have to get my heart rate up before the watch can get a reading on it. Do you think I need to replace my HRM already, or can I get a new battery for it?
I'd definitely replace the batteries first.
You need to wet the sensors on the heart rate monitor strap. It's probably not picking up your HR until you start sweating. Spit works, or you can try something manufactured, like this.

Is there any batteries in the strap or just the watch part? (I'm at work and not looking at my HRM).
Both...
Also clean the strap with soap and water.
