What time should I have supper? Before or after 7 p.m. workout?
Hello,
I have a kickboxing class at 7 p.m. (1 hr) 3 times a week. I have lunch between 12 and 1 p.m. Should I be having a snack and dinner before my evening workout or just a snack and dinner after the workout? What's the best time to be having my meals? I get home around 8:30 p.m. and I'm in bed by 10-10:30 p.m.
In terms of weight loss, it doesn't matter.
If eating before makes you sick at class, eat after. If eating after makes it hard to sleep, eat before. If neither, eat whenever you want.
hello starbright! :) i have soccer on wednesdays at 6 pm and ive found that if i eat dinner at 4:30 (and eat all the calories i needed for the day by that time) i feel great by the time soccer starts and then after the game im not usually hungry so i may just have like an orange or a small small snack before bed. i seem to way alot less in the morning. i also drink water constantly during that period of 4:30 till bedtime. thats just what works for me :) i dont like to eat within 3-4 hours before bed. but you should do whatever feels better for you :) maybe try eating before and then try eating after and see how it feels :0
good luck!! :)
I'm going to try that out anoxa. I find that I am too hungry between lunch and my kickboxing class with only a snack. I also find it too late to eat a complete meal so late after the class. I'll try having a snack around 3 p.m. and maybe supper around 5 p.m. Thank you! :)
I've had this issue my entire life... first as a gymnast, now as a coach. When I used to practice from 5:30-8:30 (give or take), I would split my dinner. I've always found it's best to eat something before so that you have energy to work out, but not enough that you feel too full. And I'd always be hungry after as well, but something small would fill me up. Even though I'm coaching now, and not training, I find that the split meal thing works well, despite being a bit more labor intensive.
Liskies11, can you give me an example of what you would eat as a meal before and after coaching/training?
I have this problem with BJJ. I generally eat at least 2,000 calories per day, depending on when the class is I like to be somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 calories before class so that I have enough energy to get a good workout in. Any non liquid snacks I like to eat at least 1/2 an hour before class ~200-300 calories and then I eat a reasonable meal afterwards if it's a night class.
I've tried clif bars, milk, a 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 a regular dinner, pizza all before class and as long as I eat them with 1/2 hour or more then it's fine. I do not recommend (from personal experience) chili cheese fries at any point prior to a class, they just don't sit very well.
I suggest eating dinner at least an hour before you have a workout, you need the energy to perform your highest mentally and physically. Carbs is best, I would recommend a small amount of whole wheat pasta and lots of water.
