...and read what the heck it is about,

you could have shimmied into gym clothes, put on your sneakers, and headed out to the gym (or outside).

Now, I know. I know. You're now mumbling some lame excuse in response.

"I'm still in my jammies."

"I'm at work."

"I have to be somewhere in 15 minutes."

"I'm tired."

"I just ate."

"My knee/ankle/hips/self-esteem hurts."

"My dog ate my gym clothes."

But the fact remains: instead of reading this stupid thread, and countless others, you could have gone out for a walk or a run or a bike ride.

Don't lie. You know you read as many posts on here as it would take you to get in a solid half-hour work out. And if you're at work, go outside and walk around the building. Once, twice, bring your hand-held or cell if you must work and walk. Just for a bit. Go on. Shoo! Even if it's just to the water cooler and back.

So stop reading. I mean it. Get off your duff and move! Any which way you can.

If you do that, I promise I'll stop typing this post. Deal? DEAL!

(Once you've done it, come back and post. I'll do the same. Let's see how many people we can get off their precious hinies this morning!)

Best post of the day.

Heh heh! So true.

I READ lots about weight loss and go to motivational sites to gain inspiration. I even waste time printing out good articles.....when yes, I'd gain HOURS in my day if I got off this computer and moved instead of waiting for some sort of flash of inspiration to get me off my backside! This is my comfort zone. Embarassed

I don't like exercise. That's the long and short of it. Frown

I actually enjoy walking but can find no joy in going out to pound pavements alone. Walking round suburban streets just doesn't grab me...whereas a walk through countryside is invigorating and uplifting.

Yes, I am making excuses. It doesn't matter where or how I move my body, I just have to move it. (And I have procrastinated further by typing a reply to your amusing post!)

Thanks for the reminder.

UK reader.  x

Yeah. Stuff like this motivates me best. Not self pity, being mad etc. Just get up and do it Smile. I am really looking forward to walking this evening. I actually did get up and walk around my building though.

My knee hurts, I got very little sleep last night, it's cold out, and spitting rain. But I got dressed and went out anyway and jogged for a half hour. And you know what? My knee still hurts, I'm still lacking sleep, it's still cold out and spitting rain. The difference is that NOW I feel like a total bad ass. Go me.

What a little moving around can do! Sloth to bad-ass in a little under 30 minutes. Woot!

Good for you. I miss running. I've been having knee/hip pain so I just walk about 20 miles a week as fast as I can and do some lifting.

Walking is fantastic for you! Good job!

Those people who work during the day are the worst.  I mean, how lazy can you get, right?  All "oh I have to do my job or I'll get fired!".  Please, we all know an excuse when we see one. ;)

Seriously, though, my favorite way to sneak in exercise is to take a walk any time I would otherwise just be stuck sitting around somewhere.  I often have to wait 30-40 minutes between the end of my shift and when my bus shows up, so I just spend half of the wait walking in some random direction and then turn around and walk back for the second half of the wait.  Much more tolerable than just standing around and I get some exercise.

Thanks :)

Such a true post!!! I was just thinking the other day that in all the time I spent surfing the weight loss forum last night, I needed to do an equal amount of working out.  There is value to be learned from the forums, but sometimes you just have to get out and DOOOOOOOO it.

That being said, I would have felt a lot more guilty when I read this post accept that I had JUST gotten back from a jog.

Well I for one woke up, jumped out of bed, changed into my exercise clothes, and just did 44 min of hip hop today. Soon I will have a healthy lunch and then I go to classes until 6 pm. I do this five times a week on the weekends and on the 3 days that I don't have morning classes. I don't sleep in until an hour before my class starts like other girls in my university. Then one day a week I go to Aerobics class and then the other day I do my hip hop routine in the evening when I come back from classes.

Excuses are well excuses! Your right. I use to have my share of them. So if my knee is hurting me really badly I don't go to Aerobics because the instructor is very tough, but I stay in my room put on a knee brace and exercise in my room.

Good job, guys! Any other takers today?

In my super optimistic moments, I imagine a uniting of CCers, all of us getting up from our office chairs all at once, heading to the water cooler, up a flight of stairs, around the building, out to the gym, out for a walk, volunteering to go run the mail up to someone's office, or to bring a package to the department over--all of us everywhere, getting up off our duffs and moving, in a grand synchronized moment of motivation.

*sigh*

A girl can dream...

This is great!  I just clicked on this thinking "Ok, last post I read before I head out for my run this morning"  You made my morning.  Off I go!

Whenever my boyfriend sees me with fitness magazines, he asks me how many pounds I've lost sitting there reading them.

There is nothing better for motivation than for just walking out the door and doing it! When I am feeling especially lazy and that I want to stay in bed instead of going out for a run (which is more often than not), I try to trick myself into action by telling myself I'll just walk for a while. I always end up running instead.

Thanks for the post! It's a great reminder that actions speak louder than words!

I have no excuses to not work out.

But reading threads here is what keeps me grounded for advice and solutions, so I don't consider it pointless.
