Weight Loss

I went to the doctor a few weeks ago for my regular visit monthly with him. ( I have been going to him once a month since my weight loss. I see my nutritionist every 2 weeks.)
Anyways.. I have lost all of this weight ON MY OWN SO FAR, but LISTEN!..............
I went to him with a concern I am having. I started this "diet" Healthy eating on Jan 12.... and those are the cold month. I get up for work at 4:45 AM to get 2 kids ready and be AT WORK by 7AM. Im ususally in bed by 9-9:15... I would eat my dinner at 5 (when Im leaving work.. I work 10 hour days but get a 3 day weekend) and eat a 250 cal snack at around 7-8 depending on if I aquacise that night or not. Well with summer being here, I have found myself not going to bed until around 10-12 due to it being lighter out, kids playing, ball games, horses.. ect... and I am getting hungry around 9.. I dont want to eat that late, and sometimes all of my calories are "USED UP"...
1. The pill: Leptopil - ($35.99 - on sale you can get it for like $25.00 at Wal-Mart) They advertise it for Only the significatly OVER WEIGHT.. but it is not a diet miracle drug either. The doctor told me he tells people its an appetite suppressant that helps with hunger pains for people that want to lose weight and ARE DOING IT BY HEALTHY EATING!!! The funny part is.. I took this drug before.. when I was a "casual" dieter... the one that was on a diet when people were around type. IT DIDNT SEEM TO WORK... I didnt have that healthy life style going. I ate what I wanted when I wanted.. so I didnt notice I wasn't hungry... If there was food.. I was bored.. I'd eat it...
I started in on Monday.. I have lost 4 lbs this week ( remember I am still ALOT overweight not just a little & my doctor says thats normal for me and IT WILL SLOW DOWN.. I still have 80+ lbs to lose)
I take 2 in the AM.... and 2 After lunch... I havent had those NIGHT TIME HUNGERS AT ALL!!! What a wonderful feeling of not being hungry... or guilty from eating....
I know we (I included) promote it the healthy way of dieting, and I still eat the same... same calories.. its just helps the LATE NITE SNACKING, that I believe was slowing me down. Please dont COMPLAIN... It came from my doctor, that PROMOTES healthy weight loss.... Its Ephedra free ect.... I know people will probably bash it, and ME, but hey... Im still eating healthy, and it curbs that feeling that give so many of us an ISSUE!! I read these posts too.... I see what the issues are! I hope just wanted to relay my advice... NOT EVERYONE that reads this needs to lose 80 + but look at my profile.
EVERY FRIDAY I TAKE APIC OF ME ON THE SCALE SO I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE LOOKING... IM AT MY LOWEST WEIGHT EVER and GOING DOWN! Question or Comment go ahead!
Remember my doctor referred me to take this.. NOT ANY OF YOU! But If you see a doctor, you can ask... REMEMBER if their really was a diet pill that worked for EVERYBODY.. Obeseity wouldn't be at its HIGHEST!!! IT STILL ALL BOILS DOWN TO DIET & EXERCISE.. and I will not stop doing those!

Thats very interesting actually. I wont bash ya!! I have been tossin around this idea for a while now. You see I am on my 9th week of a Plateau and well I was gonna try somthing like that to see if it may help bounce me out of it!! Any suggestions?
One more thing...............Does that pill make you feel all jittery and nervous or keep you awake?
nope.. Not like that at all..... It doesnthave Ephedra in it to make ya nuts... I have never EVER had high blood pressure either... Just an FYI on why the doctor recommended it... I was just throwing the suggestion around. I mean it got my scale moving again, and I am still EATING THE SAME! HEALTHY!!!!
As for teh plateau ~~ i went on a 2 month one. I stopped eating meats to kick me out of whack, and upped my resistance at the gym to get my heart moving harder! Its worked!

Trisha - No bashing here either - I think if you or rather anyone wants to take pills to help them with their weight loss that's their decision and no one should bash them for it. Some on this site tend to get very negative about the idea of pills etc. - but I can relate to wanting or needing the help so much that you'll do what you can. I think it sounds great that its working for you - everything works differently for everyone - so congrats that you've found something to help you out. If you don't mind me writing - you sound a bit defensive about taking it and I don't think you should be! You look AWESOME and have clearly come a long long way in your efforts to get healthy! Whatever you're doing is working! So celebrate! Totally inspiring!!
Defensive..... Maybe only becuase I have been around on here long enough to know what "OTHER PEOPLES" opinions are.... For theones out there trying to doitthe "RIGHT WAY" to keep it off its different. Its not like we are relying on a "MIRACLE DRUG" to do the work for us.... Everyone has stand stills... I just started this on Monday.. and Im doing fine with it. But I want everyone to know I wouldnt take it if I thought I wasn't supposed to. I am my own boss, and I would not have posted this if I didnt think OTHER PEOPLE that may have the same Issue I was having wouldnt want to know this. Iguess another reason, is I am a huge propmoter of "HEALTHY LIFESTYLE DIET" to lose weight.. Because I DID IT!!!
Not the ok, lets STARVE ourself diet and ADKINS.. been there done that!!!
Thanks for the post! I appreciate the complimets from all of you too!

Trisha, good for you to consult your doctor before taking over the counter medication...I hope other people reading your posts will also discuss whatever medications they intend to take with their doctor instead of hoping that since it's worked for you that it will work for them, too.
smwhipple ~~ I stated that 2 different times in this post. My Dr suggested this to me, and I just put it out here for people who may have the same issue I was having, and they could ask their DR about it. I have tried to stree the fact that I was lucky enough to NOT HAVE any "REAL" health issues being OVERWEIGHT! I had a heal spur that was hurting caused by weight, but no heart / high blood pressure / cholestrol / diabetes ect..... Thanks for the comment
I agree with smwhipple. Thanks for sharing the information, Ri
Wow, Thanks for the info. I will talk to my Dr. about it next week. I hope she will allow it. I think taking a pill is fair. It's like getting a jump-start for your diet. I have been eating properly and working out for two months, I've lost 12 pounds as of this morning. Not bad for me. I have also lost one real dress size. I was trying to talk to my real-time friends about weight loss the other day; they just don?t get it. I quit smoking in 1995; this is harder. When I quit smoking, I put them down and didn't pick them up. This lifestyle change is hard. I'm as addicted to food as ever I was to cigarettes. I would never have been able to quit if I'd had to smoke one a day. Food is required. We can't just not eat. I would be so much easier if I never had to see or eat again (I'm aware that's not realistic, I was bulimic in my youth). Therefore, I have had to learn to modify my addiction. I've changed the focus from eating food to preparing the lowest calorie-highest flavor foods I can. Yet, I still get hungry, I still have days of wanting to over eat and do sometimes. I am trying with the love and support of my husband, to loose the 85 extra pounds off my small frame. Thanks for your advice and help too.

I actually started taking "slim quick" before I changed my life... and I'm still taking it... I do believe it helps me with nighttime hunger... I don't think it actually raises my metabolism as the "claims" with the info say...
But my thought... even if it's all psychosymatic... so what?!? Maybe the pill isn't doing a DARN thing... bu tthere's nothing harmful in it... and if I THINK it's doing somethinga... and making me crave food less... then, I might as WELL take it... it's not like it's ephedra...
(and I SWEAR the few days that I ran out of it and decided I wasn't going to take it anymore.. I was MORE bloated... and hungrier!)

By the way Missell:
As far as the "friends not understanding" thing goes... That's why I LOVE the Internet! (This site in particular...)
No one wants to hear about my excercise routine/my calorie count/my meals... (Except maybe my mom and she's as crazy as I am!) But everyone here wants to... What GREAT support!

Trisha,
You are to be commended for the weight you have lost. Congratulations, you are a pretty girl. However I am going to strongly disagree with your Dr, and with taking ANY over the counter diet pills. It's not natural, and it's not healthy. The next thing we will be hearing on the news, is those diet pills cause cancer. Then Attorney Sokolove will be running ads on prime time TV asking everyone to contact his law office who has ever taken diet pills, lol. ( Really it's not funny. ) We just don't know enough about what they put in those things to be sure it's safe. I like the old standard. Exercise more and eat less.
You all might get tired of me saying this, but walking is the best form of exercise you can do. I've been at it for 13 weeks now, and I'm up to 10 miles a day of brisk walking. I've lost mega inches, from my neck to my calves. :) My derriere, and breasts are shrinking, and snapping right back, no sagging at all! ( And I'll admit I am 40 something, but am told I look about 31 or 32 years old. )
My waist and hips have shrunk dramatically, and my arms and my legs are getting so toned. I seem to be body sculpting my arms and legs, and I don't even go to the gym! I'm also eating 1200-1500 calories a day, and no more than 30 grams of fat. I watch my sodium intake, drink lots of water, take multivitamins. Lots of vegetables and fish. No pop, or alcohol, and seldom eat bread. I highly recommend you all do an internet search and read all about the benefits of walking.

Rachel:
Congrats on the weightloss... and pills CAN be scary, but I hope no one would ever say you shouldn't take a multi-vitamin... OR... "No... don't take aspirin for a fever... get rid of it naturally"... as long as pills not the WAY to lose weight... I think using them can be fine.
As for you"snapping back" skin... lucky you! I'm glad... My mom, when she was fifty, lost about 65 pounds... and her skin looks great... She's super in shape and does triathlons now
BUT... when you're losing well over 100 pounds... the skin doesn't just "snap" back... actually, ever... no matter how much you exercise or how slowly you lose... (sad, huh?) it's just that your SKIN doesn't have actual muscle in it... so there's nothing TO tone...)
Looking at pictures of me... I look like a relatively toned person... but GOD forbid.. you see me naked... *lol*... you can see all the muscle definition... for SURE... and then the skin hangs off... oh well! No one forced me to be 350 pounds!
and I'm glad walking works for you... but I say whateve exercise works for ANYONE... go for it... I like to switch it up... A LOT! sometimes walking, usually elliptical, but I like rowing machines, and spin classes, and step aerobics...
and I *HATE* strength training! I DO it... three times a week... still hate it! :-) I like it a LITTLE better when I'm circuit training... but definitely NOT my activity of choice! :-)

Thanks trapp! I feel amazing... (Heading to the gym right now!)
I'm so excited for us that we decided we want to be healthy!!!
(I must admit... I'm HAPPY with the pictures right now... but I"m so looking forward to posting new ones... in let's say January... when there will be an obvious change! I see every little change.. but the big ones are more fun to look at!)

i just wanted to say my borfriend tried those and he wasnt jittery either. i didnt because i am not really a pill person. they make me queasy. anyway...it did curb his hunger.
what i really liked about it was that it was pretty much all natural.
i dont like him taking chemical laden stuff.
look:
ing:
Calcium (as calcium amino acid chelate)
39mg
4%
Copper (from copper amino acid chelate)
.5mg
50%
LEPTOPRIL 1178mg
A Proprietary Blend containing:
Yerba Mate (Leaf) SE,
Guarana (Seed) SE, Caffiene,
Damania (Leaf) SE,
L-Tyrpsine,
Acetylsalicylic acid,
Green Tea (Leaf) SE,
Kola Nut SE,
Eucommia (bark),
Schizonepeta (spica) SE,
Piper Nigrum (fruit),
Hoelen (aerial parts),
Polygonum )root),
Turmeric (rhizome)
basically its caffine, b vitamins, and natural fat burners including asprin.
so if you cant deal with the caffine....take a b vitamin, calcium suppliment and drink yerba mate tea (coolest not jittery caffine buzz ever) plus citrus foods to help with fat burning.
no one underage should take this as it does contain asprin (Acetylsalicylic acid, )

thanks to all for the comments and for all of your shared knowledge! They do not make me jittery either which is a plus.... Again, I eat the same, just save myself from sitting 2 hours in the evening at my calorie counted to the #, being hungry!

Tamara,
Congratulations to you on your weight loss! Just took a look at your pictures, WOW! You look so trim. : )
Trisha,
You are so funny, such a sense of humor. I really like that!

They advertise it for Only the significatly OVER WEIGHT..makes me wonder why. 1st thought was it's probably not safe
the ingredients all look harmless enough, except can't do caffeine in the afternoon
I think I'd try saving calories for an evening snack. Bananas hit the spot with me.
yak~~Not sure.. although I have thought of that myself... My first thought was a sales ploy.. not for your 20 "VANITY" pounds but for significantly over weight... Does that mean anyone over 20 lbs is significantly over weight? WHO KNOWS!!!!
I eat an apple for my snack usually with a cheesestick for protien, but I cant get past the 10 -11 hunger feeling Im getting of Im staying up later.. I get NO caffine now as I drink ONLY water.. I used to drinktea & pop... Im sure that there's no more caffine in these than I would consume daily!!!!
rachel~~ Got to do something about the toes getting more attention than me
