Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit...

Ahem. Pardon the regression, but we are entranced by the magical powers of edamame, aka whole soybeans. Buy a bag of this high-protein, high-fiber, appetite-curbing goodness frozen in the pod, drop them in boiling water for a few minutes and add a bit of salt. At Japanese restaurants, we've found popping the pods in our mouths to extract the tasty beans to be a very entertaining way to pass the time before our sushi arrives. No one even thinks about the fact that half a cup (sans pods) is only 100 calories, with 3 g of fat (0 g saturated), 4 g of fiber and 8 g of protein. Ready to sing along with us now?

I waaant some now. I'm going to have to get some for a car snack.
I love edamame!! sooo yummy and addicting!  you gave me an idea for a weekend meal!!
You know, I've had a ton of soy products but never soybeans on their
own.  Must give it a try.  It'll be my new veggie
experiment.  Does it taste pretty similar to soymilk or tofu, i'm
guessing?
Not at all similar to either, in my opinion. Edamame have a distinct, nutty flavor all their own. They're much tastier than tofu.
I looooooooooove edamame. It's such a nice change getting that to snack
on before your meal compared to the usual fatty bread or chips at other
restaurants.
