Just a tip I've found that works for me...

I know most professionals will say that spot training doesn't work, however, I've gotten some pretty good results by dividing up my workout routine.

I work out around 5 days a week. I used to do cardio, weights and abs all in one workout. Recently, though, I've rearranged my workouts: every other day is a Cardio-and-Strength day, and every other day is a Cardio-and-Abs day. Instead of cramming them all into one, I have time to focus on one, while giving the other a rest. It helps the stress on my muscles, and I've slowly but surely lost a couple inches off my waist and I'm starting to look pretty strong.

Don't know if this would work for everybody, but I just thought I'd share anyway.

Makes sense. You should not lift weights 2 consecutive days in a row. Not the same muscle groups anyway. 3 days of weight training is enough for a week. Abs every other day is OK. Cardio 5-6 days a week. One total rest day.

When "professionals" say that spot training won't work, they mean that working out one part of the body will not preferentially burn fat from that area. Not what you are describing.

What you are doing now is what they recommend (doing full body workouts 2-4x/week, not consecutively), and doing cardio as you desire beyond that. Splitting out the ab work probably won't change anything, but the difference you've made is that you now give your muscles time to recover.

One tip - do the lifting before the cardio, so that your muscles aren't already tired for lifts - lifting when you are already tired is a good way to mess up on form and end up pulling something.
