i have a tip for all y'all with portion control problems. (like me!) i find, that when sitting at a delicious meal with family/friends where all the food is on the table, it's VERY hard to not eat more than you intended because it's just sitting and steaming away in front of you!
however, when i am eating myself or i have a set amount of food in front of me with none else nearby it is so much easier and the temptation is gone. (this is not to say become a crazy hermit). anyway, this may seem obvious to many of you, but i thought i'd post anyway.. :)

actually, i'm the exact opposite. When I'm with friends I usually eat way less than if I was sitting at home. Why? I'm not quite sure. When I'm at home, it's usually the most dangerous times.
Hey, that means I should eat out with friends more right? lol. That would be a good thing, because I fear that I am turning into a crazy hermit. :p

haha, that's funny. i wish it was like that for me, because obviously eating with friends is more fun when you are not fighting off the demons of yummy food! hey and i saw you added me to f. list, well i'll give u an add then :)
*good luck not being a crazy hermit
(although sometimes its fun)

I think it depends on the friends. LOL. I know mine like to pig out but they also have this love for apples. *weird look* One of my friends hardly eats anything though, so i'm ok when i hang out with her. I think i less around people because when i DO eat around people i usually didn't help prepare the food, so it's higher in cals. If i did help, i eat around the same amount. :)

Oh, see, I must have real food issues. I only pig out alone...occasionally with the husband, when he is too, but mostly alone...I have no problem passing up almost anything in the company of others.
I was reading in a book that you are eithier a social or emotional eater. I was so obviously emotional...all of my marks were on that side...

I've gotten really good at preparing just one serving of anything for myself. The problem of food laden family dinners is getting better. I just eat something before I go so I'm not starving. Once I'm there I take just one serving of only the foods that are best for me, and find I'm not as tempted as I was before. This is a big change from second and third helpings of everything. It's taken me a full 6 months to get to this point, so if you are struggling with this, take heart and don't give up.
With the whole portion thing, some say to make your plate small, so u get a smaller portion of food, and then eat it slower, then you wont eat as much.
Makes me eat twice as much. Gah. lol.

The biggest trick for me was to go against how my household did things and move the dishes and bread back to the kitchen. If it's in front of me, I'll grab it and eat it. If I have to GET UP, move the chair back, walk to the kitchen, etc... maybe I don't necessarily need it.
Dumb, maybe, but it's worked for me. :)
Also, the kitchen scale has done wonders. I'm pretty good at estimating the serving sizes in my Mosoewood book now, now that I've experienced weighing to GET to that serving size.

i have this problem: when i start eating, i have problem stopping.
When you eat a meal, 333, how do you do it? Do you eat everything on your plate? Do you eat everything on your plate and then eat everything on the table? DO you eat everything on the table and then go into the kitchen and eat everything there too? :)
Sorry if it sounds like I'm joking. What I'm really wondering is.. is this a full binge or lack of control of yourself over food in front of you?

The one meal I seem to have a problem with is supper. Now i make enough food for my family, take mine out then dish up the rest for everyone else. There's nothing left after, but I even go as far as making sure the dishes are done RIGHT AFTER so that I don't feel temped to eat what's leftover on other's plates. The bonus is that I have a clean kitchen and a clean mind. I used to feel such guilt over this. (Both the kitchen and eating off others plates) LOL
