Tips needed--- for surviving a weekend at the lake with lots of goodies

Quote  |  Reply

Hello, this weekend I am spending a weekend at a lake house with several couples from work.  The host is providing the main food and everyone pitches in and brings other things.  I am worried about trying to stay on track for two reasons.

1.  The presence of snacks and sweets that normally I am not around to tempt me

2.  Drinking alcohol which will lead to eating those snacks and sweets

The hostess asked for each person to bring cookies, brownies, a dessert, appetizers, snacks etc.   How can I make it through the weekend without sobataging my weight loss?

Would it be rude to bring some of my own food, like oatmeal for breakfast and then I can just eat a lot of veggies and fruit and try not to drink too much?

It would be rude of them to discourage it!!

I'd have a treat or two, but have plenty of my own healthy snacks/meals.

Last time I camped i brought flat wraps, shortcuts chicken and fiesta ranch yogurt & lettuce.. made wraps for lunch.

Make your things you're bringing low fat/low calorie! For dips, use low fat sour cream (20cal/TBSP) or make with yogurt (15 cals/TBSP) (I use half of each)

Good luck! And don't feel like you blew it for indulging a little! Just plan and be prepared to hit it strict as soon as you get back. :)

Make a plan.  One that includes a comfortable amount of special treats, but only ones that you really care about.

Bring healthy food that you (and others) can enjoy in fairly unlimited quantities.  Fancy vegetable crudites, healthy grain salads, beautiful fruit --whatever you really like.

Make choices --for instance, if I choose to drink a glass of wine at a party I usually skip dessert -- or vice versa.

Nobody cares what you eat as long as you are comfortable with your choices and don't make a big deal about acting deprived.

Drink lots of water.

By the way, I should mention that they all know I am watching my calories.  I already told them I would bring brownies and a dessert that was low cal, low fat, low carb, low sugar and high fiber, LOL.

Hey there, a couple of weeks ago I had the BIGGEST craving for brownies, but didn't want to hinder my plan. I found this recipe: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes.aspx/heal thified-chocolate-lovers-brownies

Instead of making them in a pan, I made them in a miniature cupcake pan. They are great for taking on trips. The only thing I have found is, right after baking, they have a weird texture, but after a little time while being in a ziplock they soften up. They taste exactly like little debbie brownies :) FYI, make sure to spray your pan really well. Hope this helps :)

also, instead of using vanilla yogurt  I used yoplait Boston Cream Pie yogurt and added a small amount of walnuts...yum-my!

Ha Joy, I just came back from the lake this weekend!  I didn't count at all and ate way more than I should have.  The best way for me to stay on track is to be sure to dramatically increase my activity level.  Skiing, walking, swimming, etc.

This seemed to help me immensely and I didn't feel so guilty about indulging.  Good luck!

I found out the house is on a cliff with like 50 steps down to the dock.  My friend told me thats how I could get my work out. LOL>

Thanks for the suggestions and I will check out the brownie recipe.
