Why am I tired
I am not accustomed to being physically tired so much - but hte last couple weeks I've really been dragging
So here are some general background things .....
Per nutritionist I am eating a minimum of 1600 calories per day
My normal range is from 1650-1725
I get at least 130 g of protein, try to keep it under 150 g carb and 50 g fat so nutrition is properly balanced
i eat at regular intervals throughout hte day
I work out 6 days a week ... 3 with a personal trainer nad 3 cardio days .... I burn on average about 500 calories a day working out
I sleep anywhere from 7-9 hours per night
I am losing 1-2 pounds per week
Last itme my iron was checked in January it was normal
I am calling my doctor today to schedule my yearly complete physical
PROBLEM
I've been very physically tired lately, I actually called in sick to wrok yesterday because I was so worn down, Sunday I cancelled my scuba lesson because after going to the gym in the morning, I came home nad FELL back into bed without even taking off my heart monitor/watch or work out clothes (stinky!) and slept for over 3 hours!!!!
Any thoughts? Suggestions?
I feel like I am doing everything right according to this site nad the nutritionist nad my personal trainer ....
But I've felt just CRAPPY the last week or so .....
HELP!
Could be anything really... you could have a simple virus, for example. Chronic/acute fatigue can also be symptomatic of various medical conditions. Maybe take some time out from losing weight and get your full energy needs for a few days. Calories = energy and reducing calorie intake can eventually catch up on you. Even if your iron levels were OK in January they could very easily have slipped down since... Include iron-rich and vitamin c-rich foods in your diet more e.g. red meat, whole eggs, dark green vegetables, dried apricots, kiwifruit, citrus, beans/lentils.... And take a daily multivitamin with iron as a safety-net.
I was low in red blood cells, which causes you to be tired. I started taking 500mcg of b12. And the energy i had was incredible. If I miss taking the vitamin I can tell becuase I drag that day.
Get some blood tests done.
When my allergies are bad I get incredibly tired. I'm not the sneezy, watery eyes kind of girl either. Mine is almost all congestion, so when I first started having problems I had no idea I had allergies. People at work kept telling me to go to the doctor because they thought I had mono. I was so exhausted I couldn't even stand for more than a few seconds before I needed to lean on something. I'm in Michigan and my allergies are horrible right now.
agreed your b vitamins are very helpfull when it comes to your mood and energy. I need to up my b12.
Of course there is no substitute for a complete workup by a doctor, but there are a few things that come to mind. One that hasn't been mentioned is vitamin D deficiency. I read an article recently that said the short days of winter and lack of exposure to sunlight can cause this. You might want to ask your nutritionist if it's ok to take a vitamin D supplement.
I just recovered from feeling like that for about a week. I lift 3 days a week and eat about 1600 cal/day. I took 7 days off from lifting and had a few days where I ate 2300-2500 cal. I am feeling a lot better. You may want to take a break while you are waiting to see your doc.
Is there any way you might be pregnant? Because the same thing happened to me and I thought that maybe it was my allergies or I was coming down with something, until I decided to take a pregnancy test and it was positive, and the only symptom I had was fatigue.
Congrats on the pregnancy!
No chance of pregnancy for me - was "fixed" recently in fact!
So as for vitamin deficiencies - I take a multi, a Vit D and a B-complex every day!
I have an appointment for a full physical next week so if I am still deficient in D like I was last year, I will continue to up the dose. Also my doctor happily administers b12 shots so I might ask for one.
Good news - since I slept thru my work out yesterday and had a day of rest, I am feeling a LOT better today. Last night I started feeling better when I realized I could walk upstairs without feeling like myt legs were 100 pound lead weights.
You all are wonderful, thank you so much for all of your feedback and I have learned a very valuable lesson ....
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Refer to my journal posting from last night!
It's probably as simple as your body saying 'please, give me a break here!' It's easy to get carried away with exercise/activity and to push the limits a little too far... and eventually your body will say 'enough!' and MAKE you rest whether you want to or not. There doesn't have to be anything 'wrong' with you for you to be tired out. Remember that sports count as exercise too... I don't know how often you dive, but that's strenuous physical activity. It burns a bunch of calories, and you're officially 'exercising' six days a week as well. It's probably just a bit too much...
May be too little carbs (under 150g) for your body? I have read that 150 g/ day is a minumum. Sorry if it sounds crazy...
Is it anywhere near TTOTM? For me the first and second days are horrible, I`d sleep for 14 hours straight if I could. Didn`t use to be like this in the younger days, but some years ago the symptom just popped up out of the blue and it`s stuck around ever since.
You all are so wonderful to offer up so much advice and suggestions.
I am feeling back to myself and i think the assumption that i just pushed my body past its limits is pretty accurate. As soon as i took that ONE day off from training on Tuesday and just went about my normal life, and got a couple night's worht of good sleep, voila! Feeling like energetic Nancy again.
WHEW. What a relief.
I am the type of person who gts really MAD when I don't feel well so this was terrible for me to feel so awful nad not know why!
Hip hip hooray for resting when the bosy tells you to rest!
A new lesson learned for me!
