I'm addicted I love this class and dont take even one day off.  My knees just swelled up and I havent been able to do it for a few days now.  How long will it take to heal and why are they feeling this way??  Anyone else go through this?  Its the only cardio I enjoy doing and its hard to find cardio to do efficiently with no knees involved!  Any suggestions?

That must be tough! Surely there must be a reason for it. Make sure your not pushing yourself too hard and putting undue strain on your knees.... Also, make sure that your are doing it correctly. I'm sure if it is not something abnormal, just resting your legs will take care of it and the swelling will go down in a week or so. Perhaps resting them with warm packs will also help. All the best, and I hope it goes down!

Most of the kick boxing classes are pretty high impact; there is also a lot of lateral motion.  These two elements make it easy to damage the knee joint.  You don't say if your knees are painful, but if they are swollen, that is probably a signal to take about a week off.  If they feel better after a week, try the class again, but take a day off in between to enable the joint to rest.

If your knees swell up again after the class, try the R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation) approach for a couple of days before taking the class again.

Compression would be wrapping in an ace bandage or the equivalent.  Sorry, I should have explained that a little better.
please dont call it kick boxing... -_-...  like calling driving on the highway racing

Talk to your instructor about proper technique.  Failing to properly set the stabilizing leg for kicks can cause pressure on the knee...heck, failing to stay light on your feet during the punches can jack up your ankle/knee/hip alignment and cause strain. 

You want your knee tracking the same direction as your toes and because there is so much waist/hip turning, it's very easy for people to get out of alignment.

Ok, thanks for the advice everyone.  Update is, its now been a month, I got sick so I have not been able to exercise for a month.  My knees still hurt. Not feeling swollen anymore, just hurts to get up and down.  That's a month of no pressure on my knees and I still have pain (under my knee cap).  Any suggestions anyone to what may be wrong??  Anyone else had this?

I too am addicted to my kick boxing class (with apologies to gigglepuppy who must do the real thing!). I too have problems with my knees. I wear ankle braces that support my arch and ankle firmly, which helps keep my knees in alignment. I do a grapevine step, instead of sideways/boxing style shuffle, and I don't do what we call a decoy...a 180 degree jump, and then back to start position. That is a bit of a twisty landing that my knees can't take. Also, I don't always do the moves that require jumping. Some days I can, and others my knees don't feel up to it. So, my kickboxing experience is pretty low impact and for the most part, my knees do fine. If they hurt, I ice them after class, and that seems to do the trick. Good luck!
