What is going on here today?

Recently we were able to share CC with Facebook - thus promoting CC to a larger audience which I was very happy to do!! 

Today I have a bit of time on my hands I don't normally so I thought I would check out the forums.  There are all these posts about Jesus - all of them appear to be disrespectful and completely lacking in taste and sensitivity.  I get that there is a history to all of this, that the masses are pouncing on someone who has offended them...I get it...I went to high school ...but without actually being here for the start of it, I am so embarrassed to have recommended this site to anyone who comes here today. 

I probably could have kept this to myself or talked about it in my journal but as a member of this site since 2006, I shouldn't have to fear my opinion being put out there.  I miss the beginning of this site - it was so much more kinder and gentler of a place then.  I pray that this day was just an anamoly and is not indicative of what the site's community now stands for.

And for the record, I think all religions are ridiculous.  Christians only get picked on cause their the majority.  Sorry folks.

 Seconded! And Christians seem to make a bigger fuss when they get made fun of.

we dont' take our crazy out of the lounge, and its been a hectic couple of days.

 I care!! Christianity and other religions have been VERY VERY dangerous all through history. Even today religion is being used to manipulate people into doing some really horrific things (or even some semi-horrific things...like electing bush ).

Just look over in Iran and Iraq and tell me that religion isn't something to worry about... or maybe just look in your own country and tell me religion isn't standing in the way of peoples freedoms (gay marriage anyone?).

Religion is dangerous...very very dangerous. I wouldn't care if it was just a bunch of loons dancing around and praying to invisible men....but it is much more than that and often gets very ugly for those that aren't a member of the cult of the day.

i think the forums are very tame compared to 2006 and 2007... back when we had no avatars and like 5 forums. everyone reported to  erik and igor...it all tastes a bit like tepid koolaid these days, imo.

the jesus fish thread was one of my favorites ever until it got all serious and became a religious debate.

shame... it was right up there with what do you wear to a wedding on a sheep farm (thanks for that one haley).

I wasn't around in 07, but 06 was quite calm as I remember. 

Loirk, you forgot to mention the millions dying of AIDS and childbirth because they can't use condoms.

Forums (the lounge definitely) used to be a whole lot calmer than it is now. Not that I really mind, but I remember the old days too...

 Or how about the abuse and 2nd class status of women?

Not just in other countries, that is still very common here in america (just visit an orthodox jewish temple... the women and men must sit apart from eachother).

Religion stands in the way of countless ways that society could move foward... that we could grow as people and make things better for everyone... but because people have so much "faith", we are stuck in a world of ignorance.

What really happened is that a crazy bunny kept making funny lighthearted threads similar in name to other threads. A bunch of people got their panties and briefs in a wad and whined loudly about how it was polluting the lounge. So the copy cat threads died out and no one had anything to do with their time and energy so they all started fighting about religion.

I think that sums it up quite well.

The Lounge used to be calmer?  Uhh...this happened in 07.  It used to be epic but so much stuff has been deleted.  Sad.

 Yeah, I hear where your coming from.  I just ignore it, but its gotten crazy enough that I think I'm just gonna keep using this websites tools but avoid the lounge forum by the plague.  I didn't realize the mentality of what seems to be a majority of the people on it.

 ok missed it. not saying that there werent lots of debating and controversies going on, it just seems like there are lot more posts this year that get people all angry/upset/whatever.

posts definitely keep my day not boring though. i like to read about all these sorts of things.

copy cat threads died? they were kind of getting old imho.

CDC started a new one. Which would you rather have? Copycat thread you can totally ignore OR huge religion war?

Don't take it too seriously Frokus...we're nearing the full moon. When that happens the lounge starts to get a little crazy. :)

I often send people to this site too when they ask about how I've lost the weight.  I sincerely hope the Lounge is something that they come across AFTER they realize how helpful the site really is.  If I had read some of the threads that first day that I've seen since, I probably would have shook my head and walked away.  Along with the offensive ones there are the rude ones, the stupid ones and the ones that really have no point at all. 

You'll notice I'm one of the only ones agreeing with you, that's because everyone else who agrees with you stays FAR away from this forum and tend to keep their mouths shut in order not to be attacked by the cool kids.  LOL I never did care much for the cool kids.
