Today I purchased a working blender
I'm trying but unsure of what to do with it - tonight I think I'm going to make a "protein smoothie" with cottage cheese, a banana, and unsweetened cocoa powder - I hope it ends up ok. I was just trying to think of other things to do wtih it but was kind of at a loss.
What are your favorites things to do with a blender?
P.s. I really hate protein shakes so please don't suggest that. If you want to talk about that that's fine, but there's a million threads about favorite protein shake combos and I really don't want one of those.
I'm confused on why you like "protein smoothies" but not "protein shakes"? Don't really know what the difference is?
In addition to smoothies I like to make pureed soups in my blender using roasted veggies etc. Lots of recipes for those kinds of things in the recipes section.
The difference is I don't use/like protein powder - I guess that's what i meant. the only reason I called this a "protein smoothie" is because cottage cheese is high in protein - that's all I really meant.
Ah I see, makes sense.
In my smoothies I usually use mixed frozen fruit, a little yogurt, skim milk, and about 1tsp. of ground flax seed. I've also been mixing in a couple cups of spinach on occasion, you can't taste the greens at all and it makes it extra nutritious.
I wanted to say that I had my smoothie with 2 tbsp cottage cheese, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1 medium banana, and a tbsp of cocoa powder - it was less than 200 calories and a REALLY yummy desert!
Nobody has any yummy smoothie recipes?
Any combination of fruit you want to try+2 egg whites and yogurt or milk.
I put in Kiwi, Mango, Banana and Papaya + raspberry yogurt2 egg whites+milk to thin it out.
Banana+chocolate pudding (low fat)+ 2 egg whites
Banana+ Cherries or Strawberries + 2 egg whites and milk
Apple, Orange, green tea with sugar+ 2 egg whites + milk if desired
for all use water to thin out if needed.
Coffee, Banana, Coco and egg whites + milk
It's not a smoothie, but I make the following which is really refreshing:
1/2 cucumber
2 sticks celery
Juice of 1 lime
300ml sugar free apple juice
300ml of water
Blend until smooth and then sieve to remove the fibrous bits of the celery...
This makes a few portions and you can adjust the water / apple juice ratio to suit your taste
Another refreshing combination is carrot / orange juice / ginger / water
and not a protein shake in sight there!
Ooh demara that sounds good! Super healthy
Robinrussia - are those cooked egg whites or raw?
I like to make shakes out of yummy slow churned ice cream and unsweetened vanilla almond breeze! I want to make more smoothies and frozen mixed drinks and shakes but my blender is so damn hard to clean! It's a beautiful, nice blender I got from my mom for Christmas, it is just obnoxious to clean!!! Maybe it really isn't, maybe I am just lazy when it comes to clean up! Lol
I use my blender a lot (sometimes multiple times per day) and I usually wash it a really easy way-- I just rinse it out, put a squirt of dishsoap in there and fill it about 1/3 of the way with hot water, and then I run it. I use a washcloth to get any spots up high that were missed, but mostly running it like that does the trick. Then I rinse it out and put it back.
I know though, that if you do that too often, you might get molding in the rubber part, so I do take it apart and let it dry completely every so often.
My favorite smoothie is frozen blueberries, strawberries, and banana, yogurt, half an orange (skin removed), and a little milk to make it less stiff.
I make a killer cheesecake in the blender, using cottage cheese and yogurt and stuff, blending it makes the cottage cheese smooth and you would never know this was low-cal cheesecake, tastes creamy delicious. Of course you have to bake it too.
I also use my blender to make caesar salad dressing, pesto, hummus, gremolata, that sort of stuff.
PLEASE post the cheesecake recipe! Mmmm sounds delicious :)
I tried to paste my recipe in here, but it's still not working. For some reason I can't paste anything into CC, not in my journals or posts or anything. It's been like this for several months and drives me nuts.
EDIT: I popped it in the recipe analyzer under Chocolate Mint Cheesecake, though I could not get it to accept all ingredients to analyze properly, it actually comes to about 155 cals per portion.
oh boo!! Do you want to email it to me? i'm really looking for a good cheesecake recipe! I can message you my email...
Sure, I am happy to share it, my friends and coworkers have marvelled about how good it is, so I am pretty proud.
Raw
I make super Soy Smoothies.
My Favorite (you can really use any kind of fruit) is Mango.
It makes enough to last me through breakfast until lunch so I don't snack out of vending machines, so you might have to scale back.
1 cup frozen mango
1/2 frozen strawberries
1/2 peach
1 Banana
1/2 cup Vanilla soy Milk
1/2 Orange juice
(optional) Silken Tofu for added protien if you'd like.
I've recieved numerous compliments on the sweet/tastiness of it, and it's good with any type of fruit, Yumyum.
Oh dear, double post, sorry.
