If you do that raw its kind of like fresh mozzarella.

You could also grill/bake it with  marinade, or make some kind of tofu scramble with it.

eek, i just made packed the sandwich for tomm.  all i did was sort of dry it and then used mustard and some lettuce w/ it in the sandwich, i hate mozerella! lol

i dont think i could take a scrampble to work for lunch since it'd be cold and i have no micro.

maybe tomm marinate it before putting it in the sandwich?

You can make a faux egg salad, taste just like regular egg salad, just cut up the tofu into little pieces and make your mayo or substitute, onions and spices.

thats great since i LOVE egg salad but i THINK it might be causing me to be a bit backed up.

so cut it up small, mix w/ mayo, what spices?  i only do salt+pepper w/ egg salad, never onions, would this be diff?

I like salt, pepper and a little bit of dried mustard, but that it just me.  I like the onion for a little extra iron in my diet.

dont have dry mustard.  do u just mean slices of fresh onion? yea, i never did that w regualr egg salad but i think ill try the whole thing for the next day, thanks!

anything else i can use it for for a lunch?

Have you ever tried Tofurky sandwich slices? They're good! I forget that it's not meat.

hmm, well my point was that i have the extra firm tofu and dont know how to use it, not that i want to go out and get something else, thank u anyway.

any other ideas?

maybe...

slice it thin-ish and marinate it in teriyake or bbq sauce? you could then grill it on a george foreman or something and it would be a bit like a grilled chicken sandwich.

No idea if this would work - i never even THOUGHT about using extra firm tofu as a sandwich filling! I am definitely going to have to experiment with that...

If you have a food processor or blender you can whip it up with a bit of peanut butter and make a really good sandwich spread.

I'm not sure if the firm one works as well as the silken ones, but you can try blending the tofu in a smoothie.

You could also sub it for egg in a quiche.

I definitely put tofu on sandwiches all the time, cooked and uncooked depending on the sandwich... marinate it in something that goes with the flavors or the sandwich, you can leave it uncooked or bake it or grill it or fry it, whatever you prefer.  A couple of my favorite tofu sandwiches:

I also like to marinate the tofu in lemon/tarragon and then compile a sandwich of tarragon-mayo, the tofu, spinach, and avocado.

Extra firm tofu makes awesome sloppy Joe's!! Use 1/4 the block sauté it in a pan and mash it up while it's cooking to the consistence of ground beef. Cook for about 5 mins and season it with salt pepper and chili powder. Then add 2 tbps of ketchup and mix together in the pan. It's good with sautéed onions if you have some around. Then put the sloppy joe on bread or a bun or tortilla chips!

update-

the plain old tofu on bread w/ mustard was really good! cant get any simpler than that! lol

oh, the PB idea sounds a bit odd and ill look at the link in a bit but the sloppy joe one sounds good and IF i have time ill try making the faux egg salad for tomm's sandwich, thanks!

oh, i have constipation probs, would tofu cause further probs?

Personally when I have tofu I put in an egg wash (1 egg beaten, just coat it), then put it into flour that has mixed herbs, salt, pepper and chilli powder and then fry in a non stick pan and it gives it a bit of flavour.  You can eat hot or cold after that.

Try baking it. First, press the block of tofu under something heavy to drain some of the moisture. Then slice it into pieces about 1/4 inch thick and soak in soy sauce or your favorite marinade for ten minutes or so. Place tofu slices on a lightly oiled baking sheet and bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until golden. If you like plain tofu in your sandwiches, you will probably like baked tofu, too. Try googling "baked tofu" for more ideas and variations.

so i tried the faux egg salad in my sandwich today, i was a bit worried bc my FAV part is the yold and while making it last night i tasted it and did not like it, well today it was pretty good, maybe it was the sitting overnight but i liked it.

im pretty simple w my tastes bc i liked it just plain w mustard on a sandwich, lol

thanks!
