Tofurkey- Yuck!

Quote  |  Reply

I tried the hickory smoked tofurkey slices today.  Yuck! I did have them cold on my salad.  Are they better cooked?  Has anyone tried them and either liked or disliked?  I would love to have some recommendations on the soy "meat" products that are good and/or bad.  Thanks in advance!

I love tofurky slices, especially the hickory ones.  I've never put them on a salad, though.  I usually just put them on sandwiches.  The tofurky kielbasa and italian sausage are really good, too.

 Do you warm them first?

I too love the hickory smoked slices, but I only have them in sandwichs (tomorrow's lunch- yum!).   I don't think I'd put any fake meat on my salad, I'd rather have some fruit and some nuts, though I seem to remember that Bac-os are vegetarian.

Try some of the burgers, especially the cheeseburgers (if you aren't vegan) and the black bean burgers and also some of the breaded chicken products (nuggets, buffalo wings, chicken patties) and the ground crumbles in things like spaghetti sauce.

Yeah, I eat the boca burger, chik patties, etc.  They are really good.  Maybe I will try the tofurky on a sandwich.  I also bought the oven roasted flavor;maybe I  will like it better than the hickory.

I usually grill the sausages, or cut them into slices and pan-fry them.  The slices I leave cold.

Ha h. I had oven roasted flavour slices today. I actually love Tofurky!! I had a pita sandwich with veggies that were marinated with sesame seeds and a little soya sauce. It was so tasty!

I have never had the slices on a salad, but I love Tofurky sausages and I have had them cut up in a salad. Maybe you could try that instead.

I love all evggie burgers. I have not come across a veggie burger that did not like yet!

The Gardenburger barbecue riblets are to die for!! On a wheat bun with onion and shredded lettuce and yes, jalapenos, they are just like the McDonald's McRiblet sandwich. I keep them for quick lunches at work when the food choices are crummy. With SunChips or Baked Lays I feel satisfied.

I am OBSESSED with morninstar farms chik'n burgers original.  I eat 2 (280cals) for lunch with a lil bit of ketchup or mustard about 5x/week.  I don't mind the slices, but I don't go outta my way to buy them cuz I can't have gluten and I can only eat them with sandwiches!  There are a TON of options out there.  Do you have a local Trader Joe's?  They sell a lot of vegan/vegetarian products!

 Yumm! That does sound good.

Yes, I eat those also.  No trader Joes around here. :(

I'm not a big fan of the hickory slices but I'm in love with the peppered ones, I put them in a whole wheat pocket pita with lettuce and tomatoes and I have a perfect lunch.

Try the peppered ones. They are SO delicious. I also love the cranberry ones.

REALLY? I love the hickory smoked tofurky! I also loved the peppered kind. I would never try them on a salad though... I only make sandwiches with them. Yumm :]

Oops. Double post...

i <3 tofurky wraps.

yumm. i love torfurky. altho, i didn't quite like the tofurky roast thingy i had for thanksgiving... but then again, i cooked it wrong. *shrugs*

SmartDeli has a bunch of yummy stuff. Like BBQ Pork & vegan lunch slices. Yumm.. Smells & tastes like the real thing. Couldn't tell yah the calories off hand but mm mm mm. :D  also, morningstar or gardenia [depending on whether your in the us or canada] has really good stuff.

also, to find places that sell vegetarian stuff, go to happycow.com & it'll list places that carry veg food [even restaurants!]. msg me with any questions.

I just had my first vegetarian "lunchmeat" experience about a month ago. I had lightlife smoked turkey slices. At first, I couldn't taste them too much because of the mustard on my sandwich, but alone they taste like crap! They're like firm bologna...along with the weird smell. It's the only kind I can get in my small town, which is a bummer.

I guess the next time I am in Savannah I should get some other brand. Suggestions?

I will have to try the smart deli.  But, I could do with out any lunchmeat although I love Boca and morningstar farms!

gtfo !
tofurkey is my LIFE.

ahah <3

I like SmartPups on whole wheat bread with chopped onions, relish & mustard! Especially great for summertime barbeques.

I also frequently use the Gardenburger Chic*n Strips meal starters, they work great in burritos! The Gardenburger crumbles and SmartGround also work great in chili's, spaghetti sauces and tacos for added texture.

I've still yet to try to try Tofurkey, but hope to someday!
