my mom just said,
"whats with your belly being so big? it doesnt look right. you look pregnant, or something"
well, thanks for the motivation, mom. thanks.
do people ever tell you this?

Yeah.. My parents wouldn't say such things only because telling a not married girl that she's pregnant is wrong.
There are times where I would eat and eat until I have hard time breathing (I know! It's unhealthy!!) I really look pregnant. But I know I'm not and I'm contolling how much I eat these days. So it will take some time but keep it up!

Yes! My boss asked me 4 months ago if I was pregnant. That's what got me motivated. Now I've lost 22 pounds and I'm down to 120!
ive never kissed a boy, never dated, havent even "went out" in junior high.

Well, julie, show your mom that you aren't pregnant!!
Keep eating healthy and exercising, and before you know it your belly will be gone. GL!

yes i have been told that on a number of occasions - thats why i want to get it right now once and for all
No one asks me if I'm pregnant. They just ask me when the baby is due. This stomache is going to be gone and I am so looking forward to it.
Yes it happened to me last year on my way back from holidays at the airport. Was really really embarrassed. Mind you on a bonus point it got me upgraded to a larger seat with more leg room! Brought home how much weight I'd really put on though. Went from being around about 120/130 lbs in my 20's and had gradually crept up to just over the 200lb mark by the time I was 33. Had never really worried about it before as always put the weight on slowly. Started dieting last august and am now down to 161lb. Another 30 to go but I seem to have plateau'd for the last month. Waiting for my new excercise DVD to arrive and hopefully that will get things started again!
One of my dresses looks like a maternity dress and gives me a pregnant look but I like it so I wear it anyway in winter. A parking attendant pointed to my belly and asked with a twinkle in her eye if I was going to have a baby, and not wanting to disappoint her I told her "yes". It was a parking lot I visited regularly so that wasn't very clever of me.
I had that happen, but I was working at a maternity store at the time :)
i always carried all my weight basically in the tummy area. all the time i was asked so when are you due? having twins? omg that was the worse. but that was over 60lbs ago and still going strong. most of the time i try to think of something to say back that leaves them mouth opened for asking in the first place. once a very rude woman said real loudly wow you must be due to have that baby anyday now and i said loudly yeah the same day you are due for your brain transplant.
Hmm, I havent had anyone say anything about that no... But I have (at the end of a salt ridden, chocolate filled, PMS'in day) stood shirtless in a mirror and turned sideways and did that pregnant arm wraped around the belly thing. Freaked myself out.
Heh.
Heh.
I got comments about being pregnant ALL THE TIME before I lost weight, but I think it has something to do with the style of clothing that's "in" right now. I wear a lot of empire-waisted dresses and shirts.
I usually just say yes, because I don't like the awkward uncomfortable apologies that inevitably fly from people's mouths when I tell them no, I'm just fat/wearing an apparently unflattering dress.

I have to say the single best thing this forum has helped me personally with is seeing that my body type is not as rare as I think. I am generally pretty slender now (I've lost about thirty-forty pounds over the past couple years, with ups and downs) but I have a lot of fat on my belly that is clearly there to stay. It is nice and somehow comforting to know that there are lots of folks out there with that same "weird" body type. Because my belly is disportionate I always that that second/third month look.
Does anyone else feel self conscious when magazines guess celebs are pregnant because there is a "bump" on their stomach? By their standards I am ready to POP with triplets.

Awww, mom's are difficult sometimes, aren't they? My mom told me she wanted me to lose weight because "Nobody in our family has ever been fat." LOL. It was such a ham-fisted way to approach it but I just tried to remember that it comes from a place of love. They want us to be healthy and some parents try to "motivate" by insults, some by earnestly trying then saying the exact WRONG thing. I can only say don't use it as an excuse to get down on yourself (which then becomes an excuse to binge). Just see that she loves you and wants the best for you -- no matter how tactless she is!!!
Oh, and yes, I once was asked if I was pregnant. I was riding an amusement park ride with a rather new boyfriend, wearing a shirt that puffed out in the front. The ride operator asked if I was pregnant and I about died! Too embarrassing for words in front of him!

Only once, but I was in the 1st grade so the little boy that asked me didn't know what he was saying. LOL
Other than that though, nope. I'm really proportional all around so my stomach isn't any bigger than the rest of me :P

Yes, a long time ago. I was working in a medical office wearing scrubs. I hope that's why! lol! I weighed less back then too!
Yes - a few weeks ago a nurse @ my Mom's hospital came up and said as sweet as can be 'when are you due?' I just laughed and said 'honey - this is going to be so much worse for you than it is for me - I know I'm fat.'
She was mortified. I wasn't upset at the time and can understand why she asked - but it has bothered me a bit since.

If the fat in your stomach area is hard (like it would be if you really were pregnant) and not squishy, then it's the dangerous visceral fat and you need to do something about it, not just for appearances but for your health. This type of fat is responsive to cardio exercises and a healthy diet that includes omega 3's and is low in omega 6's and high fructose corn syrup.
However, you may also want to rule out lactose intolerance or other food allergy, which can swell the belly. This may be the case if your belly comes and goes depending on what you eat - perhaps it's thin in the morning and swells by end of day. Also fiber can do this too but fiber is healthy for you - you may just need to give your body time to adjust to it.
If there's a cyclical monthly pattern to it, it could be an indicator of cysts or fibroids. This is the case with me - even after reaching 110 lbs I still look pregnant right before my period. I have a tendency towards PCOS. I am also lactose intolerant. It was a lot worse when I weighed 10-15 lbs more: once a month I would look about 6 months pregnant and none of my pants would zip. Oh, and whenever I eat black beans, forget it... my belly gets huge and I get painful cramps too.
Finally, if you have an eating disorder you can end up with a swollen pregnant-looking belly. Think about the starving children in Africa who have huge bellies. Also if you are bulimic a binge can swell the tummy - with food.

No...but I asked someone if they were and she was not...I think I was just as embarrassed as she was not to mention it was in front of like 3 co-workers that all happen to be male. It was bad, I cried (I was pregnant at the time). But she has since lost some weight so I think that comment really hurt her.
