TOM question

Quote  |  Reply

I'm on birth control for starters, and this month I have lost quite a bit of weight..about 7-8lbs, i started my period monday and my cramps have been MUCH worse than usual, and my period has been MUCH heavier than usual. Today would usually be my last day, but it doesn't seem that way. Can weight loss make periods worse even when on bc?

I think that weight loss has a weird effect on our periods whether you take bc or not Undecided . I used to have a very accurate period before I started dieting and losing weight. However, I've noticed a couple of changes after I started dieting. For example, I had my period like 3 times durin July... it was light but I did get it THREE times lol

ugh, i will cry if i get my period 3 times in a month!

Losing weight, for me, did a couple of things to my period. One, it moved its schedule up a week (I now get it the third week of the month as opposed to the last week of the month), and I appear to have started spotting when I'm around my ovulation period for my period. I never used to do that before, and it's the most extremely light spotting on the planet, so I'm not concerned as my periods are still regular after arriving a week early in June, and cramping/flow has remained the same. I'm waiting to see what'll happen with the more weight I lose.

how long have you been on the bc? Have you changed you method of bc recently? I only know of DRASTIC weight loss effecting your period, like 15lbs+ in a month.

This same thing happened to me this month.  I've only lost 6 lbs total (over 7 weeks) and this month my period is super heavy and super painful.  Is this just a hysterical symptom?  Or what?

Oh and I'm not on BC.

It could be the BC. I just started using BC and I noticed how my period was heavier than usual, and a day longer. I guess your body will get used to it. I was quite frustrated I stopped the BC for a few months and now I am back on. Second day actually, I guess in a few months I will see the results of using BC.

Ohh lovelybecca-I doubt you will want menopause-my aunt is going through it and she is a BIG OL MESS..

Well I think everyone is different-for me I just started working out and dieting again and my period came two weeks early ( oh goody) but my cramps were more tolerable--usually I am sick for the first two days-I would probably call your doc just to be safe...

I believe I'm in menopause. I've only had three periods this year, but the last one was a week long and very heavy with more cramping than I'm used to. I was concerned enough to look up the topic online and discovered that it's normal to have a heavy period after the light ones I had before. But other than that, I don't believe menopause has been very bad for me. I get a warm flush at times, but nothing like the hot flashes I hear about from others. (Oh, and maybe I'm a little cranky sometimes...but I think most people wouldn't notice...they just think I'm cranky anway!) ;-)

Anyway, I don't think that my weight loss has played a part in it at all.
