Tomorrow is the beginning of Lent...
For all the Catholics. And I think it's the perfect time to give up all the foods that you love that make you unhealthy, just to show that you're making a sacrifice to God, as well as doing something for yourself. Because keeping in mind that it's Lent and you made a commitment will keep you away from those foods.
I'm giving up all junk food including chocolate, candy, soft drinks (except ginger ale), and cookies and such. I've decided to replace all those with fruits and veggies.
What about you guys?
I am giving up chocolate and cookies... I seem to alternate years btw chocolate and diet soda but this year I'm throwing the cookies into the deal too.
I'm not Catholic or even religious (atheism whoo), but I feel like giving up something for Lent just to see if I can. haha. Not to demean your... holy practices or anything. I respect you for making a sacrifice for your religion. But I want to try to give up caffeine, actually. A lot of my friends are Catholic and when they were talking about Lent, I thought it'd be awesome to see if I could finally kick the caffeine habit. ![]()
I am Episcopalian and I am giving up fast food for lent.
i am trying to clean up my language and swear less.
not focusing on food anymore than i already do. i think it's the best choice.
That's a great idea! I am going to give up all forms of potato chips, all sweets (except dark chocolate) and alcohol.
I am Giving up Alcohol :) as i don't drink very often so it wont be that much of a big deal for me
I will give up alcohol and takeaways!!!
I need this to get me back on track, couldnt be better timign, didnt even realise until i saw this post!!
To get me back on track that is what i'l do, give up takeaways and alcohol!!
We gonna check in every now n then to see how it goes....is it for 40 days ???
:0))) I gotta get back on the wagon, ive really let myself go. 11lbs down (well 9lb now :0( but 33lb to go, gotta do it!!)
Ive given up alcohol, processed food and takeaways (except slimfast milkshakes), snacks and replaced them with exercise.
Good luck everyone
Cookies/biscuits & fast food. I don't have them that often but it'll do me no harm to give them up for 6wks! LOL!
i'm giving up hard liquor. i'm not very religious either, but i'm also doing this for health/personal reasons.
attempting to give up tea and coffee.
I'm sat at my desk with a two litre bottle of water instead of my mug, I can't stop yawning and I feel cold becase I have no hot drink to warm me up. boooooo!
this will be hard

Try hot water & lemon- good for you too! Or a cup-a-soup? I live in Ireland & couldn't give up hot drinks! LOL!
I'm giving up meat (except for fish) and chocolate (including chocolate milk, nutella, etc). I've given up meat every year for 40 days without a problem... but every year I attempt to give up chocolate I fail, so hopefully the 5th time's the charm.
I am giving up soft drinks. I will be moving on to un-sweet tea!! Yum
I also have committed to at a bear minimum 40 minutes a day on the elliptical!
I am giving something up, and giving up unhealthiness.
I've given up tea.
The amount of caffeine I drink just cant be healthy for me...
Usually I'll give up the usual sweets, soda, etc, but this year I'm not giving up any foods (I don't usually succeed anyway) and instead have decided that I'm giving up smoking. I only smoke during the day while at work so I know that if I can take 2-3 days off from work and not crave a cigarette that I can do this. I've just got to put my mind to it and break the habit of joining the guys for a smoke.
Day 1 down and no cigarettes - and it wasn't as hard as I thought!
I'm going to give up boredom snacking. Or at least make a SINCERE effort to stop doing that
Dang, I dragged my feet on picking what to give up and it's already the end of day one! That being said, I suppose that I should probably give up procrastinating given that it's clearly an opportunity.
I'm just curious. What happens if a person fails and gives into what they are trying to give up?
I gave up ebing Catholic a while back... Never really picked the habit back up. (That was a joke, probably a bad one, but still a joke).
Even though I'm not Catholic anymore I think Lent is a grand idea, so I tend to give up something. This year, since I've already given up smoking (thank you flu) and drinking (thank you throwing up blood) and eating (woo diet!!!) I can't think of something to give up for Lent...
I'd give up coffee but I would no longer function, meds would endanger lives around me, and reading... well I just refuse that one...
Any ideas?
