Took 2 tests, negative, but....

Quote  |  Reply

So, I took a pregnancy test the day I got my period, about Feb. 27 since I heard you can still get your period when pregnant. It said negative. I still freaked out and took another one on March 9 and it said negative as well. My lower back hurts and I am still getting nervous......am I just going crazy? I need some advice!! Are these tests accurate enough to believe??? I can't stop thinking about it and I am going nuts!

I was on YAZ, then switched after one month to Orthocyclen and had unprotected sex while on my period, but I was switching pills. Am I freaking out for nothing?

Here is an article about the accuracy of home pregnancy tests.  Since you took two, more than a week apart, I would say you're probably okay - they said a test at least a week after a missed period is the most accurate (and you haven't even missed one).  It also says that the accuracy is pretty close to what you'd get at the doctor's office.

There are lots of other things that can cause lower back pain, some muscular, some not (i.e., bladder / kidney infections). If it persists or if you just want to relieve your worry, make a doctor's appointment!

Since you've had a period and both tests were negative, you probably have nothing to worry about.  But I wanted to second what the other person said about the possibility of a UTI.  I had one several months ago, and I had lots of pain in my lower back and what felt like period cramps.  That may be all it is, and if so, you're doctor can give you some antibiotics to take for a few days, and it'll clear right up.  Good luck!

What sort of symptoms are you having?  Just the lower back pain?  If it is only that, you might have just injured your back.  It happens, I have injured my back before without realising at the time and just noticed later and wonder what I did.  If you have more symptoms or it doesn't go away, you should see the doctor because even though it is unlikely you are pregnant if you did 2 tests that were negative, you might be ill or have injured yourself more seriously.

Don't worry, you are not pregnant.  If you really want to ease your fears go to the doctor, but if you had  your period and had two negative pregnancy test results then you are not pregnant.  Since I have been pregnant I have had NO bleeding what so ever, and my pregnancy test came out positive within seconds after sticking it in the urine.  Your back pain may be something to worry about but you don't have to worry about being pregnant. (You are so lucky, wish my pregnancy test had come out negative!!!!)
All six of my pregnancy tests came back positive within the first 30 seconds (suprise......)   If it's on your mind and stressing you out, why don't you go to the dr for a blood test?  If you were pregnant and you took the tests, chances are if you were they'd be positive.  I was on ortho-lo and had strnage preggo symptoms when I first switched from my other pill before I became pregnant.

ok so i really dont want to scare you but with my first child i took countless amounts of  over the counter pregnancy tests all negative  but i wasnt convinced so went for blood tests at doctors 3 times then my doc got a bit annoyed and sent me for an ultra sound to prove i wasnt pregnant, so i got there and the sonographer says and there is the head and there is the heartbeat. i was  18 weeks pregnant but didnt produce the  enough of the hormone that gets detected in the tests.

but like i said i dont want to scare you and you are probably NOT pregnant if you had a period between two negative tests.  sometimes the pill can trick your body into thinking you are pregnant especially if you are switching them around but it could be a urine infection as that can cause lower back pain.

good luck
