totally freaked out - strange woman knocking on my door/kitchen window!

i just called the police to report a bizarre young woman who first knocked on my front door, then walked around to peer into my fence, then started knocking on my kitchen window (which is in the back of my apartment).  i'm home alone - luckily i have a dog! 

we get these weird people who come door to door "selling magazines."  total scam.  anyhow, i live w/ my boyfriend (who isn't home right now) and the last time they came, he said "if anyone like that comes to the door when i'm not home, don't open the door."  he's got good instincts... plus, you never know.

when i didn't answer the door, she just kept knocking and looking in the window.  i hollered "NOT INTERESTED" then googled my local police station (didn't want to dial 911).  my heart is racing - my dog is pacing back and forth.  this just creeps me out - there have been some thefts and also last year a man who lived alone got beaten (nearly to death) by someone who snuck in his window!  i live in a safe part of the bay area.  not to sound old and crotchety, but what is this world coming to?

You could get a whisle....

Open the door and before they start talking say something like

"before you start talking, I am letting you know that while you're talking to me I'm going to blow this whistle. Ready? Go!"

BLOW IT UNTIL THEY SHUT THE ________ UP AND RUN AWAY NEVER TO RETURN AGAIN.

good suggestion cshammas - but you're assuming they're safe and i'm comfortable opening the door.

sorry to post in such hysterics but it was really creepy.

they're gone now, but i know she wasn't alone (heard her talking to someone b4 she knocked). 

i think i'll try the whistle with telemarketers, though!

Oh ok in that case you could always just shout something out without opening the door....

something like "________(<------boyfriend's name), will you finally call the police on these people that keep coming up to our door and harassing us? they're here again, call right now!"

And you just named the reason I flatly refuse to live on the ground floor.  I live alone and am paranoid.  But maybe they thought someone they knew lived there?  It's possible.  I know I've knocked on the wrong door before.  SOooo embarassing.

Not to sound creepy, but whereabouts in the Bay are you?  I'm in Alameda and I'm in desperate need of local friends.  (Yes, I'm sad, I'm searching online for people to hang out with)
