Quote  |  Reply
Ok so I do great for three weeks - then I get on the scales and the weight that I had lost is back on!!  My stomach is so bloated and I'm so uncomfortable I cant exercise - its really getting me down and I just want to binge!!  Also, all my positive energy seems to disappear when its TOTM!!

Some support please? :( :(

It will all be over soon.  Drink plenty of water, keep eating right and you won't gain any real weight this week.

I love the day when I step on the scale and all the extra bloat has been shed and I'm thinner than I was the week before!

Just know that when your period ends, you will go back to normal.
My advice would be to skip your weekly weigh-in during your period. Concentrate on feeling calm and relaxed, and make sure you get your minerals such as selenium and magnesium.
Spend some more time pampering yourself. You'll have to come to terms with the fact that this is a monthly thing that will happen for the next 20-odd years. Let it happen and give yourself a break.
Do some research into natural serotonin enhancers. And 2 squares of 85% chocolate a day will not push you over the limit, but can make a big difference in your emotional wellbeing.

Good Luck!
Thanks for the advice - im just gonna stay on CC all day long to keep me motivated. ive gone two days without any hard exercise - its not the end of the world and theres always today!!!
jules -- I am having a really hard time this month with my "friend" as well. Ugh! I find that even if I'm not motivated to exercise it does make me feel better and vox's advice about the chocolate is excellent -- it really works! A study showed that in many woman, chocolate released seratonin levels comparable to a really satisfying sexual encounter. LOL
I"m on the TOTM too, so maybe I should stay away from my scale, it said I've gained 4 pounds...i'm so pissed.
D: I just got off of mine. And I know how much it sucks. I felt heavier and uglier than ever, and couldn't even look in the mirror! but I think it's the hormones. Do drink a lot of water to get rid of the bloated feeling. Your body's retaining a lot more water now that you're losing liquid..

I know..drink more water to get rid of water weight/bloatedness sounds so weird....but that's how it works, apparently XD Hang on there, it'll be over soon C:
The water thing does work..take it from someone that has a 2week period instead of 1.  I drink half my weight in water especially now. (jut getting into week 2) What I notice when I do not drink water these times is that I gain anywhere up to 5 or 6 pounds (have seen it up to 11) And when I do drink water it keeps me around the same weight I am or around 1 pound over...big difference there.

The only thing I hate is that it seems to hinder weight loss or at least be hiding any results til my time is over.

Take care and I hope you feel better.  Heck I hope I feel better soon too..hehe..

I too really struggle w/my monthly "friend" (aka The B!TcH!!!)

I read an article yesterday at the spa that said HOROMONES are so much of the reason you can't lose weight. If you have too much estogen it will effect your matabolism in a negative way. I had quit a few of the symptoms that were listed. It suggested taking this supplement called VITEX (you can buy at the health food store) to control/regulate your horomones. It also said that a lot of people on chemical birth controll had a higher risk of too much estrogen. Which I am NOT but still had a lot of the symptoms (basically bad PMS-which I am experiancing now)... It just sucks and there are many women right there w/you, girl!

I'm going to have to try really hard to not to bang my kids' heads together today! it's only noon and their totally buggin'! Damn PMS! : p
its okay. just keep telling urself that it isnt real weight and u will get right through it. just keep eating right and exercising. best of luck

I take a daily supplement of 1000mg Starflower oil and a Seven Seas hormonal Balance supplement. Since i started taking these i have been a lot less aggravated and emoinal during my period, and i am not bloated or retaining water as much.
The Starflower oil brand i take is Floresse. They are a bit pricey, but well worth it.
primrose oil works but you gotta take A LOT of it.  I take it for two weeks then once My period shows up I quit taking it for that week and the next week then start it back up.  It works with pms symptoms but you gotta take enough of it to work.  it's very healthy.  so, even if it didn't work it's still healthy.  But it does work if you take enough of it.  That's my expeirece.   It's a known help but they sometimes fail to tell you how much.  I take TWO huge yellow looking jelly looking capsules of it.  Am/pm.  Mine say 1300mg per pill I take two a day for two weeks.

I also take fish oil daily which everyone should be on it helps the mood.

I do all the right things.  It keeps those pms symptoms at bay.
I still gain like 2 or 3 pounds but at least I'm happy.
