I know I CRAVE more things during this time, but I wondered if we actually need more....I have been eating around 200 more calories the past couple of days (still a deficit), just wondering how many of you do the same during the time of the month. BTW, I have lost my first 25 pounds!!!!! yay

good question, I'd like to know the answer to this too.
I dont know if it burns more, but i tend to eat more.
And i don't gain anything but i don't lose either.
I get faint easily when i try to diet during ttotm, so i eat more.

Congratulations on losing your first 25lbs!
I've done some and this is what I found:
Before your period Research shows that many of our cravings for chocolate and carbohydrate-rich foods are particularly intense in the days leading up to menstruation. Experts theorize that women may overeat carbs in an attempt to raise serotonin levels to counter the bad moods and mild depression related to PMS.
Also, we actually need more calories premenstrually, so it would make sense we might experience more cravings if we're short on energy. Although there have been a number of studies examining cravings and the menstrual cycle, scientists still don't know exactly why some women crave carbs, chocolate and other sugary foods before their periods.
This is about Pre-Menstruation but doesn't mention anything about DURING periods. There have been little bits of info I've read though so overall I'd say:
Cravings are just that - Cravings. In some situations the body craves certain foods because it needs them, but during TOTM it's likely to just be hormones. Try to stay on track and drink lots of WATER. If you eat to make yourself feel better, try going for a walk as exercise also releases those feel-good chemicals. Also, have lots of fresh fruit as they have natural sugars which can make you feel better and satisfy those sugar cravings.
But if you don't want to go mad from all the cravings then I'd still allow yourself a bit more than you would usually, but don't over- do it. I'd say what you're doing now is fine, you won't put on any weight frome eating 200cals extra as long as you're still eating healthily. and it'll stop you from going mad with aggrevation!
