Training for high altitudes?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm currently training for an event that will be in Boulder, CO, which is much much higher in altitude than my home in NC.  Does anyone know of anything that I can do to prepare myself for the change in altitude?  I'll only have about 24 hours before the event (.5 mile swim + 5K run) to acclimate.  Thanks for any advice!

You should really spend more time at the higher altitude. 24 hours is not enough time to get aclimated.

what elevation are you going to be at with the swim and run?

I live at 266 meters and the race is at 1655 meters.  I live relatively close (2 hours) form the mountains, and towns in that area are at about 1100 meters.  I just don't really have the time or money to go spend a prolonged period of time there simply to run.
