Trampoline / Rebounder

Quote  |  Reply
Hi all! I did check out previous posts but couldn't find a definitive answer.  Does anyone use a mini trampoline? If so, how do you rate it? Is it really exercise... any approx on kcal burning! Sorry for the spanish inquisition style questioning.  I am just trying to work out whether it is worth buying one.  I thought at least I could bounce whilst watching tv!!! Thanks in advance

hey pip,

i bought a rebounder last summer and i absolutely love it.  I don't use it every day though because that gets kinda boring.  But they're really fun if you crank some good music and workout to a muted video.

I have a watch that takes your heart rate and figures out calorie expenditure.  Mine says that i burn about 269 calories for a 20 minute mid-high intensity workout.  That works out to about 800 cals/hour if you are working out pretty hard.  I also use it for circuit training and interval training.  Sometimes if i'm feeling less ambitious i will do a lower intensity workout on it while i'm watching tv and i can burn about 400 cals in an hour.

Julie... You have me convinced!!! Thanks!!! Will be going to the shop first thing x
exciting!  the first ten minutes i was laughing so much i could hardly bounce!  that reminds me, make sure you have a good bra!  haha.
Hey . I was wondering about  these too.  Can you be too heavy to use one????  I weigh 200 pounds and I don't want to break it on my first bounce.
I bought one in January and I love it.  Like Julie, the first time time I was on I laughed my a** off!  Once you get on it you will have a hard time getting off.  Loud bouncy music is a must.  I will Survive is a great song for this.  My grandchildren fight over it.
Putting it together is a little tricky.  They supply a tool, but we broke it.  We used the garden weed tool to assemble it and you will need another person to help you.
PS wear a support bra or the girls will give you whiplash!
PSS I weigh more then you and you won't break it.
the rebounder i got could accommodate up to 300 lbs so you don't have to worry about breaking it or anything.  i got a more expensive one (urban rebounder) at about $120.  i wouldn't trust a $20 trampoline with my joints.  if you look them up on ebay there are even more expensive ones - like reebok and needak - but from what i gather they're really good quality so worth the price.  sometimes mine sqeaks though so i have to grease the springs.

omg spoiled candy!!!  'I will survive' usually gets my workout started!

good luck!
I paid $40.00 at Walmart and I am not going through it.  I have seen the one with handles, but mine doesn't have them.
PS I will walk 500 miles is a good one as well!
Silly question.. do you just bounce or what do you do with it? How high do you bounce.. I only have eight foot ceilings and wouldn't want to bounce my head right through it.. I've seen them at the stores but never tried one.

Just bounce, you will not bounce to high, so don't worry about that.  My daughter can jump about four inches.  It stands about 10 inches off of the floor. so unless you are over 6' I don't think that you will have a problem.
You can just jump, do jumping jacks, jump on one foot, jog in place.
Cool.. thank you!!! I've seen them but not had the nerve to crawl onto one of those 'teeny' ones in the store! I guess all I have to worry about is not position it under the ceiling fan! hehehe!

Thank you for the URL too!!! I'll check it out!
the idea is to push down on the balls of your feet, not really to bounce high.  the harder you push, the harder you have to work.

like candy said, you are safe even with an 8 foot ceiling.  I live in a shoebox of an apartment and can still do it.  if you're throwing your arms up high watch out for light fixtures!  i almost knocked mine down one time getting a little too excited with jumping jacks hahaha.

you can do jumping jacks (half jacks or full), walk or jog, mimic cross-country skiing, skipping rope, ski moguls, hamstring curls, repeaters, kickboxing-style moves (jab, front and back kicks) with a little shuffle.  i even use mine to do modified lunges and jumping squats when i'm feeling frisky.

i know there is tons more you can do on them but they're all aerobics-type moves and i don't know what to call them.
Hi - I bought a trampoline last weekend. Just a few minutes bouncing up and down gets my heart rate up so I think it must be good for something. I don't know about the calorie rate. I bought the rbx one - it came with an exercise sheet. They are not expensive so got for it and good luck.
Neat. I'm gonna check out of them out when I go to the store the end of the week.  It sounds like it also could be good for my knee offering some 'softness' rather than bouncing on a floor or just walking on the side to side thingie I have! I like that too but you can really only do one thing with it.

Thank you everyone!!!! I never thought about one of them.. just kind of looked at them!
Sounds like fun. I too was too shy to try one out in public ... figured for sure I would break it or just look like a stupid fat lady on display. I think I'll get myself one for Easter.
