transactional therapy (may be spelt wrong)

Quote  |  Reply

heya im about to begin transactional therapy for a history of bulimia and self harm( its not major issue atm as im not purging or harming but in order to get health clearance i need to complete some form of therapy). Has anyone done this type of therapy? i think its about how previous experiences etc shape your personality and your behaviour as an adult. Just wondering if anyone knows what i can expect from this type of therapy?

Transactional analysis is often used for professionals who are or will provide therapy or care to others. The analysis focuses on personal relationships and interactions in terms of conflicting or complementary ego states that correspond to the roles of parent, child, and adult.

There is a contractual responsibility between the therapist and the client whereby the client must define why they want something, with whom, what they are going to do and by when.

The reason this is used in developing professional capabilities as a care giver or therapist is that it allows the client to become more aware of how their states may hinder or help their ability to help one person over another.
