transporting dressing?
Okay, so the only thing I don't like at my college caf is that they only have creamy salad dressings that I'm not a fan of. oil & vinegar is getting old, & I can't really stomach it with absolutely NO dressing, so I would like to bring my own to the caf.
The problem is I'd be really embarassed if I like, whipped out a bottle of dressing from my purse haha. & I'm a poor college student, so buying the packets of dressing is out of the question.
Anyone have any clever ways I can bring dressing? What I can put it in or anything so it isn't as noticeable maybe?
Thanks a lot guys!
Who cares what anyone thinks..if you want to bring dressing..bring it! The purse probably is the best option. Besides, I've heard of women carrying mustard, ketchup and salt in their purses. Haha.
haha yeah, but besides being embarassing it's not really practical. I usually go to the caf right before class then just go straight to it. I don't think I'd want the dressing to be out of the fridge & in my purse for hours & hours.
Hmmm..good point. Do you know any of the workers from the cafeteria who might be able to hold it for you in one of the refridgerators they have? They could possibly keep it in there for you and when you want it just ask for it and then give it back to put in.
they have little rubbermaid containers -- probably holds a little too much, but you don't have to fill them. Tupperware probably sells them also (I buy Rubbermaid at the grocery store...)
^ Beat me to the punch....best idea.
I use those ziplock sandwich baggies. Then I just bite a hole in the corner and squirt it on. I don't care if someone thinks anything of it! If anyone asks, just say "i can't have too much fat or my stomach acts up" :) Which is true, but that's besides the point.
You can also suggest your caf buy a low cal alternative. They might have one back there, but just not put it on the menu.
They sell "to go"-sized packets of dressing now.
This might seem weird, but you could definitely use trial-sized bottles to carry around your dressing. Just refill the little bottle from your big one at home. I've got a trial-sized mouthwash container that I use to take eye-makeup remover on planes, and I'm sure you could do the same with dressings--plus, you'd know exactly how much you were getting! (although you might still get strange looks for pouring "mouthwash" on your salad!)
I like the trial size bottle idea best. I would go for a dandruff shampoo one instead of mouthwash though... Maybe not since you'd have to wash it REALLY well!
They sell blank/empty trial size containers at Walmart and Target... so you don't have to empty out a shampoo one to fill with your dressing. They are $.99 each!
Gerber sells babyfood in these little quarter cup plastic containers now that do not leak. Seriously. My dogs got two of them full of soysauce off the counter, threw them around the house for an hour, and never managed to spill a drop.
You could pick a couple up, make squash bread out of the babyfood, then use the containers for your dressing. =)
Reasonably proced cute little bottles in animal shapes that are used for bento, etc. Good for portion control also. To find others, google something like "mini sauce bottles".
I would buy empty mini bottles that you can fill and take w/ you so its more transportable... don't worry about looking weird though, im sure most people wouldnt even care.
I agree with the above couple of people, make up some little single serving bottles. Most dressings are fine for a few hours out of the fridge and in your purse or bag. I guess in hot weather you could freeze it before hand, or use a little lunchbox with an ice pack.. Just be sure to put the bottle in a zip-loc bag with a napkin in case it leaks a bit.
