i know that an hour isn't a waste especially if you're making your time worthwhile. i've been doing intervals on incline and do it for an hour. if i find out that it's a waste, i'd be very surprised. i guess it depends on what you're doing.

i  do one hour with intervals ,higher speed and add maximum incline and then reduce

i m super tired at the end  but manage to burn some 500 calories

so i do believe i m on the right track , glad to hear you're like me

keep it up

I highly doubt that any moderate to intense exercise is a waste. I do the treadmill a few times a week alternating 2-3 minutes of runnning with 1-2 min of recovery always on a high incline. Im very red faced and tired but feeling good when I am done.

It is NOT a waste. I spend 30-45 min on my treadmill 6 days a week and love it.

To add some truth to the statement "...since someone mentioned that after 20 min. it a waste ?" there is nothing farther from the truth.

The best part of your workout happens AFTER you have been on the treadmill for 20 mins. That is when your heart is starting to work (and get healthier) and when you start to burn the most calories and build muscle.

It is always good to vary speed and incline as well. To always run on a flat surface at the same speed will not benefit you nearly as much as when you mix things up.

Stay focused and you will benefit from your hard work.

It's definitely NOT a waste! I power walk on the treadmill 6 days a week for 40 minutes while using 5 lb dumbbells. (I used to power walk with no dumbbells for 1 hour/ 5 days a week but that was too much for my body.) Anyways now I have a good balance. My tummy is toned, I fit into all my clothes nicely, my metabolism is high and my arms, legs and butt are all getting toned too! It's also a nice way to relieve stress and cardio in general is great for your heart! You'll love the results and will want to do it forever!

I think whoever told you that may have been getting confused with the fact that you need to raise your heart rate to an uncomfortable pace (feeling slightly out of breath) for AT LEAST 20mins for it to be beneficial to you. Anything you do after those 20mins can only be even more beneficial!
I burn 600 on this eliptical type machine, +30 resistance only 45 minutes. But that's with my weight and resistance added, I'm supposed to be cranking it up 50 minutes this week Yelleeek, lol
