My treadmill songs- What's on your iPod when you rock the treadmill???
I believe that listening to good music plays a huge role in how strong and how long I can run on the treadmill. The faster the beat, the faster I can run to stay with the beat.
I want to share with you what I listen to, and I want to know which artists you are listening to that pump you up when you're running.
1. All Time Low- debut album (2007)
2. Yellowcard- Ocean Avenue (2003), Lights and Sounds (2006) or Paper Walls (2007)
3. Fall Out Boy- any album
4. Plain White T's- Every Second Counts (2007), new album due out soon!!!
sample any of these artists and songs on amazon.com
Reason: Seems slightly more appropriate for the Fitness Group
Nada Surf - Do it Again (from The Weight Was A Gift, I think)
Of Montreal - Everything from Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer
Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks
Apostles of Hustle - National Anthem of Nowhere
And some various songs from Gorillaz, Okkervil River, Ryan Adams, Laura Veirs, Menomena, The Apples in Stereo and Architecture in Helsinki.
I'm usually a more rock/alternative music lover, but lately when I work out I'm turning more into a pop-loving, dance-hit junkie.
Paramore - Riot and All We Know Is Falling
Coldplay - Viva La Vida (the album)
Guster - all the albums rock, but lately it's been Ganging Up On The Sun (specifically "C'mon" for obvious reasons)
John Mayer - Where the Light Is (Live)
and here where I begin to deviate:
Rhianna - Disturbia
Katy Perry - Use Your Love
and if any one has any great dance hits, or techno (ya know, like they use in the spinning classes!) let me know, because I need more (I love to Wii box and sing along and dance while I throw punches at Miis lol)
Home by Marc Broussard (perfect timing with my feet hitting the treadmill/ground)
Wine Up by Kat DeLuna
Feels like today by Rascal Flatts (my songs are old, I know)
Rockin Robin and a bunch of other oldies
Paramore and sarah bareilles
basically, anything that keeps me distracted- happy and singing to myself- so I don't realize how much I hate running.
Edit: Can't forget to include my showtunes (ah, what a girl I am) Rent and Wicked
thesuperbex: I love working out to techno and dance... I downloaded the soundtracks to all 5 seasons of Queer as Folk and those can keep me going for hours. Also, check out Freezepop (more synthpop than techno, but FUN!)
Lately I've been listening to:
M.I.A., Goldfrapp, Freezepop, the Fratellis, punk compilations (Burning Ambitions: a History of Punk), the Strokes, Spoon, the Kooks (In & Out), Tricky (Knowle West Boy), the Kills (Midnight Boom), Santogold, and the Kaiser Cheifs.
It's kind of all over the place genre wise... but they all have great fast beats.
Magaroonie- We have similar diet histories, ages, and tastes in music so I added you!
I listen to tons of stuff on the Elliptical.
My angry motivator has always been the Distillers, as well as Discharge.
When I feel like listening to hip hop, I'll listen to Lil Wayne, TI or Spank Rock.
Generally I listen to dance/indie type mixes which include: MIA, Santogold, Ratatat, Goldfrapp, Uffie, Calvin Harris, Peaches, CSS, Justice, and other various mashups I've downloaded. Music makes my workouts far more tolerable.
I generally just keep my iPod on shuffle, or a techno playlist if I'm feeling rundown. But I recently purchased the Nike running kit, and bought the Aesop Nike running mix, a 45 minute mix that is completely awesome! I love running to it... think I'll do that tonight![]()

Ok, better stop but have ton's more. I like upbeat music to workout to and more melow music when I am TRYIING to relax. Which does not happen often. Have a good weekend everyone.
Anything Great Big Sea and a bunch of other celtic music
Any sort of ukrainian or russian type music (polkas really get me moving, but then again, I can't help it since its in my blood...)
Mighty Mighty Bosstones is also pretty good
the jonas brothers.
don't be judgemental! haha
they've actually got some really fast beats that are perfect for running to. i actually just got back from running and listened to their new album "a little bit longer." so good!!
anything w/ a techno or dance beat from Justin Timberlake to Shakira to Chemical Brothers
The Killers
Old Madonna
Guns n Roses esp U Could be Mine
and Wham :)
System of a Down. I own every album that they have released and my workout usually lasts an hour so I just pick up where I left off the next day. It is yet to get old. On occasion, I listen to Foxy Shazaam.
I usually leave my ipod on shuffle, but some really good workout tracks for me are:
The Clash, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Moby, Moloko, The White Stripes, and a local ethnic-electro band called Bongo Maffin.
For warm-down I like to listen to jazz or Radiohead.
My two favorite running songs right now are 'I'm not okay' - My Chemical Romance and 'Click click boom' - Saliva. The Used is good too :)
It's so embarrassing as I would never go see her in concert, or dance to her music at a club or anything, plus I'm 40 so it's seriously wrong to have her music in my ipod, but on the treadmill, Britney Spears music really has a good beat to run to! Seriously, anything, her new stuff or old stuff. I especially like "i'm a slave for you", OMG I can really run for great distances to that song.
When I have guests over to my backyard and our ipod is out for background music, I always get made fun of that Britney is on that darn thing.
I also like Kate Perry, Pussycat Dolls, Fergie and other Younger music. Van Halen and Aerosmith from my day, just don't help me get going on the cardio machines, but I do like listening to them in the car!!
