Triathlon anyone?

Quote  |  Reply

I am a 52-year old woman who has taken on the challenge of competing (I use that term lightly) in a triathlon in August. I've lost 45 pounds in the last year with another 70 needed to get to my goal weight. I have been biking, swimming and walking (old knees won't allow the actual run!) since the beginning of the year to try to ready my body for this. Are there any other brave, yet somewhat crazy, tri-athletes in the making out there?????

Hi there, Not brave enough for a triathlon but have committed to running The Comrades (South Africa) in May next year - It's 90 kilometers!  I've done it before but was much younger.  Now 53.  I have been told by numerous people that I'm completely cooked!!  Good luck!

I also have knees that won't allow running.  I have never considered a triathalon just because of this.  Aren't you pretty much doomed to be at the back of the pack if you walk instead of run?  I wish they had events for non-runners, because I have a high fitness level for my age and could easily walk a marathon instead of running it.

It's all in the finishing...not the where I finish. For me to be doing this is huge. I visual the finish line...whether I walk or jog across it...and know how proud I will be that I am crossing it! I think I will do well in the swim and the biking, so if I can't run...so be it!

Hey, Great for you for trying that triathlon. It is a very good challenge. Who care where you finish its just great to do it. I have always wanted to do a triathlon. I am a poor swimmer so I recently decided that I was going to do more swimming and I'm doing really well. I plan on doing a short triathlon next spring. On the oposit to the few replies, I am a runner. I use to have bad knees a long time ago but did a lot of running on soft surfaces(run /walks) and this helped to strengthen my knees. I also do some balancing exercises at the gym on the busu ball which also helps.
