So I always see everyone say, "Oh nothing is off limits in my diet!  I eat anything I want but in moderation!"

I wanted to be like that, and I tried to be once I reached maintenance mode.  But, it seems like as soon as I add certain foods into my diet, I binge.  It's pretty much only starchy foods.  My triggers are plain popcorn and carrots.

I guess I wanted to know, does anyone who tends to binge still eat their trigger foods and not binge?  How do you control yourself or limit yourself?

I used to be orange from binging on carrots, and it took forever to get rid of it.  To do it, I cut carrots and popcorn completely out of my diet.  Now I'm turning orange again and it sucks.   A customer at work even laughed and was like, "You have CARROT hands!!!!"  and I was just kinda like, "yeah...hehe"

But yes...should I make these foods off limits again?  Everyone says it's unrealistic to make foods off limits but it seems it may be the only way for me to stop.

When you eat carrots, do you eat them with something else?

Yes I do.

I've tried carrots, cucumbers, and hummus.  I've done carrots along with my lunch (turkey wrap, apple, hardboiled egg), but even if I'm full I keep going back for carrots until I've gone through big bags of them.

ya might have to do what addicts do and  completly remove them if they are that big a problem. To get your betacarotene you can still have sweet potatoes and other orange veggies, but if ya cant stop eating carrots ya have to stop!... does the same thing happen when theyre in a bag of frozen mixed veggies? (btw?) and same thing with popcorn! too much can cause crazy gas... i think even more embarassing then the orange hands lol... at lest ya could always say its tanning lotion lol.

This is not very original, but I have the same problem with chocolate and many other sweets - oh, and fresh bread. BUT - and that's interesting - only sometimes. There was a time when i could safely include, say, 5 pralines or a lollipop, or some fudge in my daily diet routine - and it was OK, i had it and i didn't crave for more. But recently i had a couple of stressful weeks and when i tried having just SOME chocolate etc, it turned into an all-out binge. Once, twice, three times... and after about a week i decided that it must end. For the time being i cut out all these "triggers" and i'm planning to wait until i'm more relaxed and happy, and then try to re-introduce them again.

try always having a fat and protein with the starch, it fills u up more.  i notice when i just eat carbs i binge too.

My trigger is emotional in nature so no food is safe at that point.  Last night after a nice dinner I binged on the following -

1 bag popcorn

Chocolate cake, 2 (sugar free fudgesicles), a handfull of nuts, crackers, whip cream (straight out of the can), 1 cupcake and a piece of cheesecake, I did figure out what the emotional issue was but only after I ate the rest.  Working on all baggage.  When I eliminate any one food grop I binge more. I did look up binge eating last night.  Apparenly depression goes hand in hand.

Anyway maybe it isn't just the food that makes it a "binge canidate"

Mine are usually brought on by boredom, but they are always worse after having carrots and/or popcorn.  It's like, once I eat them I just crave more and more of them.

Also, thanks for the tips on how to make carrots more filling, but being filling doesn't help.  I don't binge because I'm hungry, and I'm usually full or at least not hungry when I start binging.

Once I start, I move on to tons of other foods though.

Can you not buy them and make a special run to the store, carrying only enough money for one bag when you really really want them?

I control my ice cream habit by keeping a raspberry sorbet that I kind of like in the freezer.  When I'm at the store I already have ice cream so I don't usually buy it.  Even if I do have some I don't like it so much that I'll eat the whole pint.  If I really want my favorite ice cream I'll go out to the ice cream shop and buy a scoop.

I have to cut out my triggor foods completely. I crave sugar, chocolate and cookies and I can never stop at just one.

Cold turkey is the only way to go for me. Saying that my foods are way higher calorie than carrots and popcorn. If your going to binge those are pretty good.

I binge on carrots too! wow, i thought I was just weird lol. And i've turned orange before too and my parents made fun of me and told me to stop eating carrots, and I did a really bad job of acting like i had no idea what they were talking about and saying my hands looked normal to me :X, the other binge foods are any nut butter, almonds, and most carbs like cereal, oatmeal, baked goods. I've done ice cream too but I'll usually stop myself after two big bowls. The peanut butter I've gotten better about just by including it daily and simply accepting that sometimes I'm going to have 5 or 6 tbsps in a row.

Im not sure how to stop the binges, mine have gotten much better since I've gained weight and because I make sure I schedule a meal or snack for myself almost every 2 hours that way if I feel like snacking out of boredom I usually don't have to wait long til my next snack time anyways. A lot of my bingeing was also brought on by anxiety about needing to gain weight and I would start by justifying it that way and not be able to stop until I felt sick. I can usually catch myself now after a while and go brush my teeth or find a reason to leave the house.

do you eat anything else that is dark orange? maybe your body is craving the nutrients in carrots. maybe try a different dark orange vegetable for a while.
