What triggers your I'm-so-famished-I'll-eat-ANYTHING madness?
I got home from work today and I snarfed up anything that got in my line of vision. Calories were not any different for breakfast and lunch than they have been for the past week. I didn't eat any sweets. I'm not ovulating, no PMS- what gives? The only thing different was I only got about 5 hours of sleep compared to my absolute min. of 7.
What gives you the mad munchies?
I always find that I eat way more when I'm tired. It's almost like my body thinks that extra calories will make up for lack of sleep.
I only get that way if I let myself go too long without eating! Mabye try a snack late afternoon. I usually have a snack (peanuts or cottage cheese) around 3:30pm and then I eat supper around 5:30pm. Just a thought :)
stressful days are the triggers for me. I start eating when I had a stressful day at the office... or if I am mad about someone... then I start hurting myself by eating whatever comes in my way! :o)

There may be something to that. I think I'm going to do some research online on sleep deprivation and hunger.
BOREDOM does it for me every time.

Yes, I've read research that links sleep deprivation to weight gain - when you're tired you can't be bothered dieting and you eat more; plus the more hours you spend awake the more opportunities you have to eat.

At least, that's how it works for me.
Oh, and occasionally, I'll go to enter my food and find out that I had eaten almost entirely carbs before the eating frenzy (as might happen if, for example, I had oatmeal and fruit for breakfast but was out of milk so drank juice or water instead and didn't follow it with a handful of almonds for fat/protein).
Haha, I loved your description, "snarfed up anything that got in my line of vision." For me, it's running
Doesn't matter how many snacks or meals I've had or how well I plan my meals, I'm always starving the day after a long run!
Oh, and PMS ![]()
I'm learning what kills and creates my appetite. Unlike most people, when I exercise I generally am less hungry, but my exercise is just a long walk, unless it's aerobics, which is right before lunch anyways. Eating in the morning makes me less hungry later. But what gets me to eat way too much is lack of sleep, definitely. And sometimes right when I get home from school it hits me like a rock. Home is too comfortable, I think. High-strung emotions were what drove me to overeat in the past. Definitely loneliness, low self-worth and depression. I'm handling that now. I do eat a little more on my period, although I only have my period once every few months (maybe that's why I'm finally losing weight and acting sane?).
I get this later in the day if I hadn't eaten enough earlier in the day. I'm a student and a lot of times I'll be rushed and will only grab a little snack to last me for the whole day. As soon as I get home I eat everything in sight, and end up consuming way more calories than I would've if I had just spread out my calories during the day.
Also, the day after a long run!
Stress!! i'm dreading december (exam period, hell even november is going to be hectic with assignments), last april i gained 4lbs over the few weeks of studying and writing my exams. though this year i'm definatly going to keep snacks far away from me while i'm trying to read XD. i would just grab a bag of chips and before i knew it they would be all gone, so i'd grab cookies or cracker or something. oh the joys of University XD
sadly just plain boredom does this to me sometimes...especially late at night when i just randomly decide I don't want to sleep...I'm bored and I go nuts

Oh yea, too many carbs gets me too. Maybe the PMS- I'll have to pay attention. I got more sleep the next day and my appetite was under control again. Well, as under control as I can get it.

Well running I can understand. That uses up major calories! I wish I could run- I'm not built for it- then I could eat a few more calories.

From what I read low level- moderate exercise does diminish the appetite. It is the high impact stuff like running that revs up the hunger. I definately believe lack of sleep makes me hungry.
this is probably pathetic but i normally have the munchies when i gained weight. i have the defeatist attitude and say what the h***. i get a lot then course afterwards i regret it and eat more. also stress contributes as well
skipping breakfast or/and having a really late lunch --> basically, I keep eating all afternoon
stress doesn't help either
That was you? I thought it was me...
I couldn't seem to stop eathing yesterady either. Two nights of not much sleep, and DH being stressed out at work, means that all my resolve to eat better went out the window.
Stopping my workout a bit early yesterday so I could have an argument with my son when he got home from work didn't help.
Today hasn't been much better, but I'm going to try and stop and think first before stuffing my face for the rest of the day.
Grocery shopping. I see all these delicious things I'm excited to be buying, and when I get home, I want to try everything.
