I am hardly a waif, but i just can't seem to eat all my calories in order to have a 1,000 - 500 calorie deficit. I was eating around 1,000 calories a day (and working out hard core 60 minutes/6 days a week) - my deficit was about 1,200 calories a day and my weight did not budge (although i tightened up quite a bit frmo the workouts)
I recently was told that my calorie deficit should be no MORE than 1,000 a day otherwise your metabolism slows down - so i've been trying to eat between 1,200 and 1,400 calories a day (at a 1,000 to 800 deficit). It worked, I lost another pound BUT I find it difficult to eat those extra 200-400 calories - i feel like im overeating - anyone else have this problem?
HAAH! unless your calorie intake is somewhere around 3 thousand, I don't think I'd ever have this problem.
On the other hand, try eating food with more healthy fat (calories-by default) avocado, peanut butter, almond butter, etc...
And you are right, calorie deficits should be no more than 1000 a day, or your body will begin to store fat reserves.
Do you think that maybe it is just a mentality, meaning- your not technically full, but you maybe feel like you'll gain if you eat your recommended intake? Just an idea, because if you are truly full- then just eat higher calorie foods. If it is your mentality that is causing you to actually be afraid to eat--> get over it!!! You won't gain any weight, you will be doing your body a favor!!!
That used to happen to me when I was eating 1000 calories or less a day. It was not healthy at all so I decided to increase my calories. At first it was really hard for me to eat the extra calories not because I wasn't hungry but because I was afraid of gaining weight ( dumb I know). Anyways now that I have increased my calories and continue to lose weight I feel a lot better. Once you get used to it you will be glad that you are eating more!!! Trust me lol. Just takes some time to get used to it and to realize that eating less is very unhealthy!
yeah its definitely not a fear of gaining weight - i love food - the problem is that my stomach is sensitive to high-fat food - i feel so nauseated after I eat it - plus im genuinely full - i think maybe my body got used to eating 1,000 a day. anothe rproblem is i try not to have snack foods in the house b/c i could eat an entire box of wheat thins in one sitting. maybe i'll eat more sauces...
I'm the same with with wheat thins and peanut butter lol.
But my advice would be to just slowly try to build up your intake. Buy a bunch of fruit and eat a piece 2 hours before each meal. That should add at least 300 calories to your daily and they aren't high-fat, also having them in the house isn't like having a box of wheat thins calling your name from the pantry.
Seriously though, adding a little olive oil to your salads would also bump you up by 100 or so calories and isn't "high-fat" food. Adding a tsp or two of oil when you cook your veggies...it's not like you're scarfing a cheeseburger. There's a world of difference.
The two main problems I see on every single person who posts about not being able to meet their calorie goals are that they're eating too many "diet" foods, and they've cut out fat from their diets.
good ideas thanks - no i eat real food - lean meats veggies and lots of fruit - i love the taste of real food too much to eat fat free sugar free "diet" food!
OH! another good thing to add besides olive oil- flax seed! Its really high cal, realllllllly good for you and has kind of a nutty taste- but you almost dont know its there!

no kidding flax seed is high cal- i just took a look at the calorie content on my flax seed bread and it's 130 a slice!
yeah i have the same problem. i can't seem to go more then about 950 without paniccing and thinking i'll get fat.. but i'm really obsessive and have a very perfectionist mindset.. but i'll definitely take all these suggestions into hand.. i mean i won't even think of the calories in sauces and stuff. thanks for everyones advice!
i guess this means i get to have ice cream!
I've come to believe that i have the same problem. i was eating 900 cals and burning 500 but apparantly thats not what youre supposed to do http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/110 085.html . please comment if you have a suggestion . i really have no idea what im doing.

I dont see how it is right I mean everyones body are different. Some just never lose weight, and some just lose weight by eating 3000 calories a day.
Its not like if you have 999 kcal deficit you wont be in starvation mode but if you eat 1001 you will. You get what I mean?
wait so do i still have to eat 1200 calories on days i dont work out? (my sedentary burn rate is 1700)
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
