Trouble Eating Around School Schedule.
Eh, I suppose I'm at a point where I'm satisfied with my weight,
but this is only after I spent my whole summer trying to regulate my metabolism (which was very very slow due to my eating habits for the past 3 years).
I know I should be eating enough in order to maintain (this summer I had had trouble losing weight, b/c of my messed up metabolism, and i had to change my habits), but school has started and its gotten very very very difficult for me.
When I wake up late, I dont have time to grab a cereal bar, but I usually do take one. And sometimes I'm stuck doing homework during a free period, so I can't go and eat lunch (open campus high school).
It ends up that I dont eat until I get home (around 5), and I basically eat a 600 calorie meal. I do feel the hunger pangs throughout the school day, but if I have class/extracirriculars all the time and 0 time to run down to the deli across the street, I cant do anything about it!
Does this mean my body falls into starvation mode, because although I wake up at 5:15 AM, I don't eat consume anything other than water until 5 PM? I usually stay up till 1 or 2 doing HW, so I make sure to get around 1600 by the end of the day (light snacks while i work added with another meal).
so is my metabolism slowing down all over again? my schedule this year is so hectic, I just cant spare the time to sit and eat during a free. I usually grab a cereal bar before I go, but I find that makes the hunger pangs worse on the days I can't eat lunch.
Any suggestions?
Next... Prioritise lunch. At the same time as preparing your breakfast, make a packed lunch and put it in a box. Takes 10 minutes, that's all, and then you don't have to run to the deli, you've got it right there with you. 'Can't spare the time' is a pretty thin excuse really. If homework has to be put on hold while you have a sandwich etc., then that's how it has to be. Everyone has a hectic schedule.... but if you value your health you have to give eating a higher priority than you currently are.
Take along to school some packets of nuts and raisins or other little snacks like bananas to eat as you're changing classes. Then, when you get home you won't be trying to play catch-up
Whether it's slowing your metabolism or not, eating nothing all day is probably ruining your concentration, crashing your blood-sugars, putting your body under stress and it's really not healthy. The 'fix' is better preparation and a little time-management. If you really want to do it, you'll rearrange your day. Best of luck
just wondering,, cant you eat while doing homework? you got two hands! like go chew on a bread or drink something. Sometime in the weekends go buy a pack of raisinbuns and cartons of milk (need calcium!!) or you can always grab a apple on your way to school and eat it there.
and maybe keep some nuts or some cereal in your locker so whenever you're there, pop some in your mouth (:
making stuff the night before would definitely help you a lot. and even though they might not be the healthiest options, it may be a good idea to keep a bunch of protein bars & portable options (that don't take up too much room) lying around in your bag just in case you are late. not much more to add, and honestly i have no idea if it hurts your metabolism, sorry
