No ,it may help being more specific.. is this a tv show if so what channel, what was it about..

if you clicked the link, it takes you right to it....

but it was on MTV True Life about people who can't stay thin

Seems to be what most of us on the site talk about -- when you cut calories too deep, you will usually end up binging it back on.  When you rely on "fad" diets instead of learning to adjust your lifestyle -- it easily comes right back.

I haven't watch the whole thing yet -- but seems to be the classic story.  In order to lose weight and keep it off you need to eat healthily at least 80% of the time; eat fewer calories than you burn (while still eating enough to maintain your metabolism); exercise (you can lose without this but it's not usually sustainable).  These people desperately want to lose weight TOO fast, using unhealthy methods.

ANYONE can get and stay thin...

There is no possible way that a person "cant" stay thin.

Its simple... take in less energy then you use....you lose weight (fat, muscle, whatever... all are just stored energy in different forms).

People who keep putting it on after they take it off (or who cant even take it off in the first place) arent taking it seriously or dont understand what is happening / what they are eating.

They need more emotional control. Both of them need to stop starving themselves, no wonder they gain it all back. They also need to get educated about nutrition.

Can't watch it as it's US only.

But I agree with post #4 if you really want to get thin and stay thin then you will, but it's like anything you want to succeed at, you have to be committed.

I can watch it but I'm outside of US.

You're lucky, it won't run for me.  It says right across it restricted to US.

problem is that people want to lose weight and get results too fast.  they use extreme measures that are unsustainable, regardless of being committed or not.

I didn't watch the whole thing.  What I got from the first part is that these people went on "diets".  I can tell you from long personal experience that following any diet might lose you a few pounds, but you have to go off the diet sooner or later and you'll gain it right back.

Instead, think about a lifestyle change.  First educate yourself about balanced eating.  Look up the USDA food pyramid to see what proportions you should be eating.  Explore a website or book like The World's Healthiest Foods, to learn what's good for you.  Do some reading about appropriate exercise for someone in your stage of life.

Then identify your bad eating and exercise habits.  Start changing them one by one.  For instance, if you drink a lot of sugary drinks, gradually eliminate them.  Switch to water.  Stop adding sugar to your hot beverages too.  Or, if you eat too much fast food, learn to cook.  Make sure you make changes you can live with forever.  This isn't a temporary fix.

Logging your food on CC helps you to see what you're consuming.  Use the tools to figure out your caloric needs, but don't restrict yourself expecting fast results.

Most important - don't give up.  You will need to stick to your new, healthy habits for life, not just for now.

A more appropriate title for the program would be "I have no self-control and not enough brains to learn how to be healthy".  Sure, their strict diets require enormous amounts of self-control, but it's not lasting.  The need to harness that energy in a more logical, healthy, even way.

Lorik:  There are some people, albeit very few, who can't get or stay thin due to biological/chemical problems that they are born with.  I had a neighbor like this when I was a kid.  However, in most cases, you are absolutely right.

Did you try watching it firefox instead of ie, it worked for me no problems (actually i was surprised it did because they normally don't) and i'm in europe.

I think I say this one, about the guy who secluded himself to lose weight.  He was eating between 250-400 calories a day and didn't have the energy to exercise.  TOO EXTREME.  He cut out his friends and family and quit his job.

The last part of the show was him still struggling to eat normally.

If you eat that little, an increase will put it back on.  He screwed up his body and metabolism.

Diets don't work.  Never have, never will.  Temporary fixes are just that, temporary.  Doing it on my own I lost 4 pounds in a week last week.  On Weight Watchers I lost that in 2 months.  I didn't even intend on losing that much.  I exercised 3 times, did my normal activity, and even at over 2000 calories most days.

Wow, the guy trying to lose weight thinks he needs to lose more because of all that flab still on his stomach. Uh, you need to work out is what you need to do.

Yeah I watched the show and can relate to each person on it. It brought back bad memories of what I use to do which was barely eat any calories and then have a binge day.But that  guy ate alot when he binged.I never got that carried away. But it shows how starving yourself will only last for so long then your body just keeps craving fatty foods and eventually you will blow up again. It was sad to see that he could not eat normally. I have been there and it is ugly. All you think about is what you are going to eat for the day and if it is too much calories. You don't want to interact with no one because it usually involves foods and they will criticise you if you don't eat.It sucked. The girl who went on all those diets and wanted to lose weight in like two seconds is how I was not so long ago. I would get so discourage if I didn't lose like 5 pounds in three days. My weight has been a yo yo .I would go up ,down but never knew how to maintain my weight. That show was a good wake up call for me and just made me understand even better that eating normal now is worth it.Even if my weight comes off slow at least I know I'm losing it healthy and I am not on any wierd diet or starving myself. Its such a relief!

I don't even understand how he thinks cutting himself off from the world as his only way to lose weight thinks that what he is doing is sustainable. I mean really, going from 400 calories to boxes of take out?  Instead of sitting around watching videos on the internet about dieting, why not get some exercise, even if its in his shut in apartment? Does he really think he can go his whole life cut off from his friends and family and not have a job if that is the only thing that could keep him at his goal weight?

They both strike me as people who would rather whine about something than do the right (though harder) thing. The girl is seeing a nutritionist, getting results on her healthy plan and yet is still not happy.  They seem like typical MTV "characters." Overly dramatic and kinda dumb...

yeah i can't watch it either & im using firefox. oh well. anyway what was the ending like? did they actually get someone to set him straight & educate? if not i think that's just a waste of a tv space. maybe we should have "cc:true life" ah i remember the days when mtv actually played music videos.

wow...some people are really pretty brutal calling them stupid, no self control and melodramatic.

maybe they are un-educated, but i think of it more as desperation.
people who follow fad diets usually KNOW that healthy eating and exercise are the best route, but they are so DESPERATELY unhappy with themselves that they can't be patient enough to go the slow and steady route.  some people think that somehow they are so screwed up that losing weight the "right" way is impossible for them.

even though i have never gone on a fad diet or heck even had a huge shift in weight, i feel sorry for these people.  i have loved ones who have yo-yoed and they are still good, smart, caring people.  society puts such a huge stigma against overweight people that it drives people to put their bodies and minds through insane things.  people who starve themselves can't think logically.

if anything i think it was brave of them to share their stories so that other people with similair struggles can relate and gain perspective to what they are really doing to themselves. most people would be too humiliated to admit losing weight from restricting and then gaining back from binging.   it's like the ultimate weight loss shame/fear/failure.

Watching it made me really thankful for calorie count.  When I wanted to lose weight, I turned to this site, and if it hadn't been here I might have been one of those people...

Another thing that struck me was how handsome the guy was and how sad it was that he was ruining his body and health the way he was.

I found both of them to be rather shocking, but especially the guy.  I was surprised the show didn't say anything about eating disorders, because I wouldn't call 200-400 calories a day a diet...

Then I started to wonder if people would be encouraged by the show to try his methods.  Sure, he binged and gained, but he DID lose 140 pounds.  People tend to have an "it won't happen to me" attitude, and I really hope nobody tries losing weight like him.

I can't see the link, but from what you all have said I gather that I'm very disappointed in MTV.  If they really wanted to make a difference, they would bring in nutritionists and document these people moving on to healthy weight loss....Instead, they focus on these people's unhealthy techniques?

Ugh.  One more reason why MTV has gone downhill in my book.
