The truth about "0" calorie Parkay Butter Spray

Quote  |  Reply

For all of you who pours on the butter spray instead of actually spritzing my veggies, I learned some hard truth today. Parkay spray really isn't a freebie. Here's an excerpt from the blog I read (actually read 2 that said the same thing....one was a reply from Parkay people, so it must be true.

"Once again, we run afoul of labeling loopholes. Yes, in the serving size listed on the package ( 1 - 5 sprays) the product is legally zero. But, it is not actually zero in any quantity.

In fact, Parkay Spray has .8 calories in 1 spray and 4 calories in 5 sprays. Fat content is .085 grams in 1 spray, .4 grams in 5 sprays. That means that in the entire bottle there are 832 total calories from 93 grams of fat. "

That means I've been pouring 50-80 calories in my pots of carrots/cabbage/corn/green beans.

Boo Hoo......but I knew it was too good to be true.

Look at the ingredients. I think first two is water and oil. So it's dilluted oil.

UD

I am not sure what is in it, but all fats, liquid or solid, are around 120 calories per tbsp or 1800-1900 calories per cup.  If this is half water/half fat that would be about 60 calories per tbsp.  It it's all oil, that's 120 calories per tbsp.

This thread is enormously funny.  Who wouldn't know that they are 'spritzing' on calories when they are using a 'butter' spray?

I use an olive oil spray when i cook my eggs.  On the can it says 1/3 of a second spray is .25 grams.  I log in 1 gram of olive oil rather than a spray, because as many have mentioned, no matter the serves, it's still going to say zero calories.

BTW there are generally 15 grams in a tablespoon of any kind of fat/oil, and 5 grams in a teaspoon... log it accordingly!

OMG! I am sitting here reading this, eating my Lean Cuisine with a ton of Parkay poured in it thinking that I have been a total idiot for the past 6 years. This of couse is exactly what the marketing of this product was suposed to do- make you believe (because we want to believe) that we are consuming less calories than we actually are.

But I have been useing this butter this way for years and it has helpe me maintain my weight (by making things like frozen lunches taste good). Although NOW, I will be cutting back on it and lets see if I can lose that last 5 lbs. that has been stuck to me like glue.....

For Pam, I log each spray as 5 calories. And each spray is 1 second long. I press the spray and say "one mississippi" in my head before I stop. I do it twice otherwise stuff is just gonna stick to the pan. =/

I've known about calories in spray butter for a year or so. As for Pam or similar prducts, I usually just do a quick sweeping spray across a pan and use a paper towel to even it out and soak up the excess.

Of course everyone knows without fat none of those nutrients from veg are going to be absorbed, right?........and by the way pam is probably the worst type of fat anyone could ever consume.........
