She's your mother, that's kinda how they are.

You can just hope that her insanity isn't hereditary >>

Not knowing anything about anything, it sounds like she might have some issues of her own.  From your picture I'd kill to have your tummy!
she had to be joking, you don't need to lose anything!!!

my mom does the same thing

calling me thunder thighs

etc

i know shes wrong...how do you cope

*sighs in releaf*

she just told me she was joking ><

I was about to head to the gym rofl....i swear mothers can make their childrens self esteem drop.
Point to her boobs and tell her to either grow some or lift 'em.  xD
nah i told her to lose her tummy too :)
My mother keeps saying, "Don't get too skinny."

Don't worry mom, that will never happen!
My mom just tells me to buy a belt already, like I really intend for my pants to fall around my ankles in the middle of a store.  She thinks I won't wear one 'cause I want to "show off my weight loss."

She's just jealous. xD

LMAO Sealed

I don't know if that's really a good 'joke' to say to someone who was anorexic....or anyone actually, my best friend when I was like 14 said that too me (*poke* "little belly!") and almost 10yrs later I still remember it -_-
I would NEVER say that, even in a joking way...to my daughter recovering from an ED. In fact, my 21 year old son gained a lot of weight, but I would never say a word...if one of his friends wanted to, that's one thing, but for your mom to say something critical means too much. I might tell him to lay off the junk and eat healthier..but that's about it.
ehh. dont listen to her. you are gorgeous the way you are.

LOL!

That's disgusting. I can't believe a parent would say something like that! Does she want you to develop anorexia nervosa?

Ugh. Sorry to insult your mom, but that was a big mistake.

Dont worry, shes just crazy! Ha ha ha!

I remember my mum telling me a she thought a dress was too tight, I cried for about three hours and had to take it back, totally ruined my birthday, shes a meanie!

xxxxxxxx

She's just being playful (and prob a lil jealous!), that's what mums are like.

Its like when you take the mick out of your friend's hair for being curly when the fashion is straight but wish you had natural waves like that :oP (no, I'm not sore about my natural frizz and my best friend's lovely ringlets...)
uugh...for some reason it's always the "mom comment" that i cannot shake out of my negative voices for the life of me.  it's been sooo many years since my mom commented on my weight/figure but she did it at a time that i felt so insecure, that it still haunts me today when i'm looking for a reason to keep hating my body.

parents should be more sensitive, gentle and nuturing to their children but they are only human.  positive body image is really really hard to achieve.  the thing that always haunts me though, i know she has bad body image issues too, so if she loved me, why on EARTH would make that comment??  it was 11 years ago and i still remember being in the car and her words exactly.  it's not like i was ever proud of my looks or EVER felt remotely pretty during my entire childhood and adolesence, hiding behind baggy clothes and huge ugly glasses.

she probably has long long long since forgotten she ever said it. i keep telling myself i'll do the same and low and behold this thread bring it back to me like it was said 5 seconds ago!!

I recovered from it last year [=

A few months ago, my Mom told me that I was getting wrinkles on my forehead, and I am pretty sure I will never forget it. I think that comments from parents stick with you more then comments from friends.
