Trying To Gain Weight In Muscle! :)

Quote  |  Reply
Im 5ft8inches tall, 18 years old, female and 115lbs
I'm looking to gain 5lbs by the end of december.
Right now im eating 2300 calories give or take a few and i work out 5-6 times a week (cardio & weight training) more then 30 minutes in each session.
Will i gain weight by eating like this and working out like this?

edit: sometimes i burn 500 calories at the gym; should i be eating these calories back?

if you're looking to gain, you should definetely be eating those 500 calories back.

and i think as long as you keep eating 2300 and you keep excercising and eating back what you burn, you'll not only gain, but you'll gain muscle and stamina.

good luck!

gaining 5 pounds of muscle, in a month is impossible even with steroids. the amount of calories you are eating; you are going to gain more fat that muscle. you might be better off lowering the calories a bit upping the protein intake and being a little more patient with the muscle gain. with the extra protein your muscles will get harder, recover better and you will start to cut back on bodyfat and not sacrifice muscle, it will help to give the appearance of having more muscle.
i was actually eating 2100 calories but i add 200 calories more because i burn 500 at the gym.....

i weighed myself yesterday and i had lost a lb.

edit: plus im going into the airforce by the end of december so i really want to gain those 5lbs and build stamina
I hate to tell you, but the only thing you are going to gain is fat.

5 lbs of muscle in a month is basically impossible clean.  The top male bodybuilders at best will put on 15-20 lbs of lean muscle in a year, and they're not clean to say the least.
i dont want just PURE muscle..ofcourse some fat too.....i mean look at my pics..im a twigg lol
what im trying to say is that im looking to gain weight in a healthy manner...fat..toned..muscle..

not just pure muscle :)

If you're looking to build muscle I'd make sure I was getting a ton of protein...

if you're looking to gain weight I'd load up on some carbs (that's what the actresses do to gain for a part).

hth!! and thank you for you wanting to protect our country :)

I am a bodybuilder, so I know a bit about muscle gain. Anyway, gaining muscle requires a combination of weight training, and, MORE IMPORTANTLY, a calorie surplus. When on a bulk (muscle gaining period) I eat about 300 above maintenance. It is vital that these calories come from 'clean' (healthy) foods, or you will gain nothing but fat.

It is also important that you get enough protein, as amino acids are the building blocks of lean muscle. Various figures are floating around the net, but most bodybuilders agree that someone gaining muscle needs about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.

Personally I would recommend you increase your calorie intake to about 2500-2600 daily with at least 100 grams of protein.

P.S. Gaining 5lbs of muscle in a month is a physical impossibility. 1-2 pounds a month is a reasonable goal, plus a small amount of fat gain, which is inevitable.

Hope this helps. :)
