Trying to get 100 lbs

Quote  |  Reply
Hello people,

I am 17 years old. I right now weight around 110 to 120 lbs (depends on how much calories I eat every day). I am only 5'2" so my weight has been up-downside which really bothers me. I need to lose some weight and get rid of some fats in my butt. My goal is to weight 100 lbs and stay remained 100 lbs. Because someday, I want to be a model. However, I don't want to starve myself. I really need your sugguestions.

Thank you for reading.

Go to the home page, use the links there to learn about nutrition. Under tools you can find your expenditure and allowance based on age, height and activity level. You may find 100 to be an unrealistic weight to stay healthy. BE HONEST when you put the stats in so that you get good data to base your intake on. I'd suggest exercise to tone up, you might be surprised at how good you look now toned. Good luck on your journey.
i can imagin that at 5'2, 100 pounds would be the lowest you wanna go having a small small body frame.  Its really going to focus your diet on lean foods, fruits, veggies, and lots of water, just like the rest of us, with plenty of exercises.

5 small meals a day... 1200 calories + exercise calories

However, I've never heard of a 5'2 model...
You are aiming for a goal that is underweight, expecially for your age.  You are still growing and your bones are still developing.  You need adequate nutrition to support this healthy growth.  You should not be limiting caloric intake and you should consult a doctor to discuss appropriate nutrition and diet for someone your age.
xoxo...I happen to know a great deal about the fashion industry because my first degree was in fashion design but you don't need to know anything about that field to know that there is noway you'll be a model at 5'2. I'm really sorry to tell you this but YOU WILL NEVER...let me repeat NEVER be a model at 5'2!! It doesn't matter how cute you are, or how stunning you are or how photogenic or amazing your "look" might be because at 5'2 there is noway it will happen.

Btw the fashion industry is awful, and everyone has a flipping eating disorder. I know people think it is only the models who starve themselves, but that is not true!! EVERYONE or nearly everyone involved in the fashion industry does stupid things to keep their weight down because it is a very cruel industry to anyone who does not wear a size 0-6months!

Try different pursuits!
I just want to add that there are different kinds of models, for example "Fit Models" and they are ALL shapes and sizes, so there is hope for anyone who is interested. I do agree though that modeling is a very nasty business from a health standpoint. You don't have to be a human hanger to be one of these other models, so please don't lose weight just for that reason!
Well they are trying to outlaw or something models that are too thin in NY.   I forget if that passed or not... but you may end up underweight to be a model anyway unless it's just for jcpenny or something.

Also for your age... you could still have one last growth spurt in you... without that little extra weight you could just not have it.   So just tone up... exercise... and get your body in great shape.
Alayney "fit models" are usually eating disordered as well. Trust me I know what they do. They look "fit" but let me tell you a lot of times they simply live off whey protein with water for like 2 weeks to dehydrate themselves and look thin and "fit". They have quite a bit of pressure on them too keep their weight within a very narrow range and they all workout like crazy then take dehydration pills and eat NO carbs for at least 2 weeks before photos are taken. Then they usually put all the weight the lost back on and then the whole cycle of dehydration and binge eating starts again. Look all models with the exception of the plus size ones are very sick with their eating. Even the plus size ones probably have food issues...like binge eating disorder or something.

I just think miss 5'2 up there is better off putting her energy into more postive activitives/ hobbies/career goals (just my opinion)
I have to disagree with a prior post that states how you can never be a model at 5'2". My 14-year-old sister is 5' 2 1/2" and was a petite model (mom didn't want her to get distracted from her studies). I think you're required to be under 5'4", with maximum measurements of 24" waist and 34" hips. You definitely won't be a top model or anything, and the work will be sporadic, but short people can be models. However, if you haven't already been approached by several talent scouts by this point in your life, you may not be what the industry is looking for...but that's not to say you're not beautiful (which I'm sure you are).

To reiterate what alayney said, please don't do weight just because you want to be a model.
Actually, most fitness models tend to be short. :) And you do not have to be anorexic to be a fitness model because muscle weighs more than fat, but you do have to be very, very, very disciplined and predisposed to an athletic body type.

But models come in all sizes and types, you may not be able to be a runway model, but a petite model maybe. Though I do not think that weight has as much to do with modeling as measurements.
hmmm, just a little observation that this is going off-topic a bit... this thread is not really about models & the model industry...

any suggestions for xoxonina08???

{{{xoxonina08}}}  ~ it can be difficult to find the perfect healthy weight, especially since we have fluctuations from water, food, salt, time of the month, etc, so i try to shoot for a range...

As a teenager, you are still growing.  The International WHO standards are different for teenagers (than the adult standards used by this site).

Check out this calculator for teenagers ~ it gives a lot of information including calorie recommendations...

http://www.kidsnutrition.org/bodycomp/bmiz2.h tml

according to the calculator, your goal of 100 lbs is very low and would be ok if you were growing into the goal by adding weight.  But in 2 years, as an adult, your goal would be considered underweight with a bmi lower than the minimum healthy 18.5...

what does this mean?  that you are good now on the low end of normal... 105 is on the edge, but 100 would be underweight.

so, please consider changing your goal to a healthy weight range so you don't become underweight or malnourished...

let us know if you have any questions, k?

i could be wrong, but i don't think alayney was refering to fitness models. fit models are the ones who are used to base clothing sizes on, or they also try on clothing for stars (before a big event for example). to be sure the fit is correct. they can be all different sizes. not as glamourous as runway or anything like that though obviously.
Oh my Lord *eye roll* Okay whatever you all say!
workout ~ you make a good point... and... as usual, people share a variety of opinions and information here... it keeps things thought provoking ;)

personally, i had not really heard about *fit* models...

and it seems to be such a *glamorous* job ~ thinking darn near every girl in my family wanted to be a model...

so, since we can't all be models ~ we need to be realistic and work towards healthy goal weights and body images

imho... :)
united you're right! That's all we want ...a body we love and a healthy body image!

What concerns me about xoxo is if she wants to lose weight to get into modeling she will surely be told she is still not thin enough or tall enough...but we are all free to do whatever we want :)
my dn was 5' 9" and very thin and they wanted her to go lower to like a size 0.  She has since grown to 5' 11" but it makes me so sad that she is going for an underweight goal.... it does not look good.  whether a person is 5'2" or 5'11" ~ underweight just doesn't look healthy.... imho...
Aprii13 at the risk of having united close this thread for getting "off topic" I'll answer your question anyways  :) I'm a a chatty one so get comfy.

I know the absolute minimum for a fashion model is 5'6 and that happens VERY RARELY.

I know there are specialty categories of modeling like plus size which is size 14 plus and petites are 5'4 or shorter but they are often regular people who "model" on the side of their day job for fun. They get rare odd jobs like modeling for the occassional local fashion show at the mall just before Christmas. Sometimes they get print work (ex..plus and petites for Sears, but this is so rare). Basically the specialty models shouldn't give up their day job and often times they don't..they know modeling is and always will be a hobby for them.

Even if a girl is the "right height and weight" for fashion modeling they sort of live hard and fast...Most get into modeling as young as 12. The former super models of the 90s are now in their mid 30s and they have them doing anti-aging ads that are actually meant to target 50 year olds. It's an industry where 20 is old, 30ish makes you a great granny and anything above a size 00 makes you fat as butter. So don't even think about it!

Just go to university! :)

Cheers

p.s sorry  united ...I've gone WAY off topic again *workoutaddict heads for her corner*
That is my dream weight, to have a two digit number (in pounds) as my weight figure. If you are darn short and want to look relatively tall and willowy, I feel that I have no choice but to shoot for the lower end of a healthy BMI. I am way past 17, so nope, I am not getting any taller.

Eh, so that was off the topic but dear xoxonina08, aren't there just simply too many good things to eat in life? By 'good,' I don't necessarily mean ice-cream and cookies, but a hearty dish to salmon and veggies, with perhaps a soup on the side, or a really good Italian-style pizza, with doughs that are just the PERFECT combination of flour, herbs and olive oil. Oh yeah, of course, there are also great ice-creams out there, so good that you can almost taste the freshness of milk.

So, no, don't starve, and as for the models, some of them are naturally thin, but some of them chronically starve themselves to stay in those shape.
I'm 31 years old and I spent the last 5 years being a petite model.  This means clothing for woman under 5'4".  I currently weigh 114 and during my last photoshoot, which was almost 2 weeks ago, I was 110.  I would not try to go lower than 110 for my height, which is the same as yours.  Because we are shorter, less weight looks like more on us.  Even 5 lbs is very visible and can change your waist measurements.

After being in the modeling industry as a model and licensed cosmetologist (makeup artist/hair stylist) I would say that thinking you are going to be a fashion model/runway model is unrealistic.  Girls like us, who are small framed and thin are good for things like petite clothing, print work, beauty, jewelry, editoral work and even lingerie.  However, you have to be very proportionate, have perfect skin, and features that photograph very very well to even be considered for such jobs.  You also have to have thick skin, because you will here all the time how you are too short and probably get turned down for jobs you really want for the girl next to you who is 5'9' and 110.  That's just the reality of it.  I know because I've experienced it many times.  The good thing for us is that the fashion industry has alot of pressure to use models with at least a BMI of 18%.

my advice, get used to rejection.  period.
I know I'm offering no advice, but I just wanted to say that I could never understand why someone would want to lose the fat on their butt. That is the body part that attracts men (boobs as well, but it's better to have both), and makes your jeans look good. I've never seen anyone with a small butt who I didn't think wouldn't look better with some more fat in it. In fact, I'm actually quite sad that my ass was the first thing to go when I started losing weight, it wasn't big to begin with and now it's tiny, nearly flat, and I think my clothes look horrible on that area now.
