Trying to lose the freshmen exess, detailed plan, feedback?

Quote  |  Reply

hey guys!

well at 5"2 with a small frame, I started out the year at around 102lbs and have completely ballooned up to 119lbs in just 3 months! Looking in the mirror is terrifying!

None of my clothes fit me, I feel frumpy and insecure and this leads to more bingeing, more getting down on myself, less exercise, more bingeing... vicious cycle...

So first of all, I am going to revamp my eating habits, organic natural foods (fruits and vegetables) + low fat dairy (skim milk, low fat cheese) + lean proteins (chicken, beans, tuna) and wholegrains (oats and wholegrain crackers)

I'll do that for a start, this weekend. And then next week I am starting yoga (to cope with some emotiona issues as well as fitness) and I will aim for 2xdays of yoga, 3xgym cardio/weights sessions and 2xdays of light exercise such as walking to class rather than driving

My aim is to initially lose 11lbs by the 1st of August (5.5lbs x month) and then I'm sure the weightloss will slow down so I'll aim to lose those last 6lbs within the next 2 months (3lbs x month should be a nice and slow weightloss pace)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated guys Laughing

Ok first of all the same thing happened to me! I am 5'4'' and I put on about 10 pounds this past school year, bringing me to 140 pounds. The way you're going about doing this is very similar to mine. I am usually very healthy, the problem I had was that I let myself go this year, eating things I normally do not and nor working out enough. Good luck with everything!

well at least its only 10lbs you have to lose manthy... i wish thats all i had to lose too!!

keep working hard I hope it all pays off :)

anyone else?

Mak...I think you've got a great plan detailed for yourself that will not only help you lose weight, but get you back into a healthy lifestyle that will make you feel GOOD about who you are (and how you look ;))

I'm 5' 1 and 105 lbs and 19. I actually lost weight at school! During the summer, I got up to 120. That made me feel huge. It may work for some people, but for my small body frame, I felt uncomfortable with myself. So, in at the end of October I got my booty off the couch and starting working out. I wasnt used to actually working out because in high school I ice skated a lot, so I enjoyed moving without actually feeling like I was working out.

In addition to your schedule, don't forgot some weight training even if it's just with your arms. It really does and tone and definition, plus it builds muscle which helps burn all the fat! win-win situation.

Allow yourself every couple of days to have a small treat too! like two squares of dark chocolate (I really like Lindt Chili or anything above 75%) or a small ice cream from like McDonalds. It keeps you motivated and honestly life is too short to not allow a little bit of pleasure in food!

Hi makacos! I'm 5'1 and my healthy weight is around 115 lbs...but gained about 20 lbs during the fall of my freshman year! It was horrifying! By the spring, I had acknowledged the awful eating habits that were causing me to gain so much weight (like multiple packs of nutter butters a day...) and I started to get on a pretty regular exercise plan. By the start of my sophomore year, I was back to my normal size (though I must admit that I've had some fluxuations since then...and I'm trying to get back on track now).

It's definitely not easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle in college, but walking to class is a great idea! And yoga will be great! I'm actually thinking about buying some yoga videos to get back into it. I've found that the best thing for me is to just keep a really steady routine with predictable meals (I have oatmeal for breakfast everyday) so that I have something planned instead of a spontaneous bad decision...but everyone's different.

It looks like you're on a great track for weight loss, though, so good luck! :)
