I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". . I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years. Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).
I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons. I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably. I may want to go on to a size 6 next.
I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated. Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.
Let me know if you are out there and interested.

ok, to sum up the ideas i like
20 pushups everymorning! + abs exercise say 25 double crunches 3 series
+10, as a way of logging our weight
setting July 6th as the goal date
doubling exercise for 3 days a week
start today - June 1st
daily check in to log cals eaten and cals burnt, every evening
and the weigh in day - Wednesday....
how does this sound?

Cool, i'm in!
I'm 5'4 and would love to lose 10lbs. Before Christmas I had been at my weight for 2 years and wanted wanted to lose 10. Well, during Chrismas I gained 5! So now I need to lose 10.
I don't really exercise right now, sometimes I run on the treadmill but find it boring. But, I feel motivated right now so I will try to do it 2-3 times a week. That seems reasonable.
I also eat 12-1400 calories a day right now. Except on weekends - I don't count on weekends but I try to eat well.

amyb's in.
June1 - I want to stay at 1250 for my net calories. I just ran 3.5 miles for the Special Olympics LE Torch Run (slow team run) about 38 minutes.
I like weigh in days on Wednesday also... Mondays are sooooo.... well, Monday - ish.
I am going to post my current stats to try and motivate myself:
June 1
Today - 147lbs. this AM
calorie goal per day 1250
Exercise - 3.5 mile run @ 10min/mile pace
So, we have to show our doubles for the week--here are the players:
eugrrrlll
mcpchants
toniahayes
thea8
trixitrix
littlesara
amyb3517
June 1, boys and girls - POST 'EM and live by 'em!
good luck!
Amy
PS - since we are starting at the end of the week, we all may not be able to get 3 doubles in.......don't get discouraged!!
PPS. I think we may have to move this to the GAMES forum---- We can start a "DOUBLES" thread......

I'm psyched! And I give - Wednesday weigh-ins it is!
(We could start the "week" on Wednesdays - I bet we can work in 3 double workouts by then.)

I think I've finally found the club I need to join. I really need to stop yo-yoing the same five or ten lbs and get serious, or I'll never make goal!
My current strategy for self-discipline involves a rubber band that came off a bunch of asparagus or something. It's big enough to fit my wrist loosely, like a bracelet. I put it on my right wrist, and if I make my cals, that's where it stays. If I miss my cals, it moves to my left wrist to remind me (and anyone around me who's paying attention) that I screwed up and need to do better. If I make my cals again, it can move back. And if I'm feelng the craving to eat something naughty, I should just snap myself with the rubber band as a deterrent :-P !
Getting myself to exercise isn't that hard, since I usually do it while watching shows I like. I feel much less guilty about watching too much TV if I'm working out to it, than if I'm just sitting there like a lump!

Nice to meet you, naia! Okay, here's my post for June 2:
1) Calorie goals for June 2: 1400.
2) exercise goals: 60 minute walk/hike; 60 minutes of singles tennis. 20 pushups.
3) June 1: Stayed within calorie goals. Only drank 2 beers, and I planned for them! Did double workout (walk + drills). Did 20 pushups. My legs hurt.
4) Possible pitfalls for June 2: Saturday, so eating with husband (unhealthy eater) during the day.

I like the rubberband idea.
What is the advantage of moving to the game thread? I'm not used to forums.
June 1st:
Consumed 1695 calories. I redid my allowances based on activity and anywhere from 1500 - 1700 will allow me to lose 10 by July 14. So I stayed within my alotment.
Met my exercise goals except I did not play the tennis because it started raining. Walked and did three sets of squats, push ups and sit ups.
Tomorrow: June 2nd.
Probably will not exercise - it will be a rest day since it is raining and we will be traveling back home from vacation. I will pay special attention to calorie intake to make up for lack of exercise.
I will weigh in on Monday for accontability and for a starting point. I will probable weigh on Wednesdays thereafter.

the rubberband idea is just cool!
it's June 2 in the mornning, i just woke up , had my coffee and did 2 sets of 10 pushups - not full pushups just the version with knees staying on the floor, maybe by the end of this i'll be able to do 10 regular pushups? (i read Hilary Swank for million dollar baby was doing 100 pushups a day!!) and did 2 set of 25 crunches.
i will also do: house cleaning, gym, and then mowing and gardening which i count for the second workout
bascily we should start our week on Wed, but i feel so motivated that i don't want to postpone the double workout thing until then...
i don't think we should move to the games forum but if we do, please PM me!
stats for today:
5'5 1/2; 137 lbs, cal intake plan: 1200-1400

Hello 10 lbs forever club,
&nb sp; This seems like the spot for me as well. I have been trying to lose the same 10 lbs for 3 years. I also run 5Ks and sprint triathlons. I am happy with my fitness level, but not with the number on the scale.
June 2, 2007 Weight 162lbs
1400 calorie goal, biked 15 miles and ran 3.
Thanks for starting this thread!

Hi Dievans,
I'm glad you are in. I also do Triathlons- I just started this year. I've done two so far, and like you, I am happy with my activity level. I am just trying to decide what my next exercise goal will be. I weigh ? (haven't weighed since vacation started last Saturday). I did do I Sprint Tri on Sunday. I will weigh in on Monday but I am 5'4" and probably weigh 145. I've toyed around with trying to lose 10lbs. forever.
Do you think you are eating enough calories for your activity level? Have you check out the tool for calculating needed calories. It seems that if I need 2100 to maintain and 1500 - 1700 to lose in a healthy way, then you should need as much or more. Maybe I'm consuming too much. I've read that if you don't get enough you will hold onto weight. I've never had a problem with getting enough. My challenge has been keeping track and not medicating with food or eating for something to do. Plus, I LOVE FOOD!
I look forward everyday to everyone's post. You all are great! Keep up the good work.
We might want to list our greatest challenge for the next day when we list our goals. That way if anyone has any suggestions for overcoming our challenges, they can post them. How does that sound??

I like the idea of our "greatest challenge"
I am also very jealous of the Triathletes... that's awesome!
I run and bike, but I am not a good swimmer. Fiancee swam in High school and is very good.... I am average.
I have been logging a lot of biking lately...
Anyone doing any races (bi's, tri's, marathons, 5k's, 10k's or 15k's) coming up?
I am doing the Boilermaker (15K) in July...
for weigh in, do whichever day you want, but stick to it!! (It's easy to say Monday, only to eat your face off all weekend and then say, "hmmm..... I'll do Wednesday".... just trying to keep everyone honest, myself included) What is our end date? Do we have one? do we need one?
PS toniahayes, you have nearly the same stats as I.. are you over 30? Just wondering, as I am, and it seems like it's getting harder as I get older.

Hey Amyb3617,
To answer your question, I am 44. That's awesome you are going to do a 15K. The longest one I've ever done is a 10K, that is why I started doing Triathlon. I decided after the 10k that I didn't want to run much farther. Good luck to you. Let us know how it goes. Btw, you don't have to be a great swimmer to do Tri... my husband did his entire 1/2 mile swim using breast stroke.
Thanks for the encouragment about weigh in day. I'll definitely keep that in mind. I will probably weigh both days but will not get discouraged on Monday's weigh in.
If we set the end date for July 14th it would be a 2 lbs. per week weight loss. Does everyone think that is reasonable?
June 2 Report: I am 159 calories over on the eat meter. Guess I better go to bed now; problem is it is only 7:00 pm. It was a rest day so I accomplished my exercise goals. Guess I'll drink water for the rest of the evening and maybe have a glass of soy milk before bed if I am hungry at bedtime.
June 3 Goals: 1500 calories; 10 mi. bike ride; walk in the evening with hubby ( double workout as suggested in our forum) Biggest anticipated challenge- going to church and not eating for 4 hours- then eating mindlessly.

toniahayes,
I didn't see your post on the WINE thread did I? If I did, then we really could be twins! My knees are starting..... I won't say it.
Anyway, did a 25 mile bike today at 15.1 average MPH, for a grand total of 1060.... then hubby wanted to go out for dinner.
I didn't do terrible........not great either, but at least I considered what I ate, knowing I would have to try and log it later.
July 14th works for me..........let's do this.
June 2 - over on calorie goals 2,600 (but burned nearly 1060, so I don't feel CRAZY)
June 3 - goal < 1,500 calories
&nb sp; - 6 mile run in AM
BIGGEST CHALLENGE - not eating myself silly when we go out for dinner with friends tomorrow afternoon.d
I am going to stick with Wednesday weigh ins, and I will be watching the 2 day a week weigh in people.... don't let that be your excuse to binge on the weekend.
GO TEAM!!!!

Hey all!
Sounds like everyone's got a busy weekend!
For June 3:
Calorie goals for June 3: 1600.
Exercise goals: 60 minute walk/hike. 20 pushups.
June 2: Stayed within calorie goals. Did my pushups, only played tennis for 30 minutes before getting seriously winded. (This is why I admire you cardio endurance athletes! I don't have any!) Walked 60 minutes.
Greatest challenge for June 3: afternoon/evening bbq. This will be tricky!

Hi Everyone,
I can't tell you how psyched I am about this Forum. I hope we all stick with it. I need advice...
According to my new BMR calculations, I will need to cut my calories to 1200 calories per day to lose 10 lbs. by July 14th. I don't think I can eat that little with the amount of exercise that I do. I am comfortable with eating between 1500 - 1700 calories, especially with all of the trips my husband and I are planning this summer. So, with that, if I stick to 1600 calories everyday I will lose 10 lbs. in 50 days which is July 23. This is in a perfect world. I would be happy with that. Do you think it would be reasonable for me to set a goal of losing 5 lbs. by July 1 and 10lbs by July 23rd? I think we all want to lose 10 lbs. but we need to individualize our time frame based on what is practical. We have to be able to stay with this.
Yes, Amy, my secret is out... you did see me on the Wine tread. We probably could be twins... Wow! you rock on the bike! I only did 10 miles today which felt great after laying around on Saturday. Did you do your six mile run?? Have you done any of the bike races or tours? I would like to find one to do...
Hey Trixitrix,
Your doing great!! I hear walking for long periods actually burns more fat than running. I've read that running taps into the carb stores while a long walk will tap into fat. Not to say running doesn't burn fat. It actually will cause the body to burn more after exercise than walking does. Anyway, that's what I have read. Keep up the great work.
About the winded part, when I first started running, I could only run for less that a minute without getting totally winded. I stuck with it and have now been able to complete 2 triathlons. It's amazing what we can train our bodies to do.
So far so good today. Knowing that I would be checking in with our Forum, I really was conscious of not pigging out after chruch. I'm on track so far today with my goals. I will need to take a walk soon.
My goal for tomorrow is 1600 calories. Run 3 miles in the morning at a 10 min pace and walk for 5 mins warm up, 5 min cool down, and 1 min between each mile. I also want to attend a pilates class in the PM because I feel a need to stretch more. My biggest challenge tommorow will be getting up at 5:00 to meet my running partner at 5:30. To overcome my challenge, I will lay out my exercise clothing, and go to bed early. My other challenge will be to get to pilates class without backing out. I will plan to have dinner prepared early for my guys and I will eat a small amount before class and the rest of my dinner after and reward myself with a glass of Syrah after class :-)

Hi all! Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend AND avoided all possible weekend booby traps!
That said, I have to say I shanked my exercise today. It was raining and the French open was on tv, so I only had time to do 20 pushups and take the dog for a 30 minute hike before the bbq. Stayed within the calorie goals, which was not easy, considering the homemade fried chicken my friend made was very tempting and delicious. But I used my friends' new babies as insurance against going to the buffet too quickly - that is, I offered to hold one of the babies while the mom had her dinner. It gave me some time to consider what I'd eat, plus I got to play with a really cute and tiny person. And the mom got a little time to chat and eat, so we all won!
Hi Toniahayes! I think you hit on something really interesting in your last post. You said that because you knew you'd check into the forum, you paced yourself. I think that's exactly true for me - I know I've got to account for myself at the end of the day and it really keeps me in check.
Thanks for the feedback about getting winded. Playing tennis the other day was not pretty - I really felt my lungs burning. The frustrating thing is that I'm strong - I can whack a tennis ball pretty hard and well, but that doesn't do much good if I'm doubled over and wheezing all over the court. I'm considering adding a jog around the block before each of my dog walks, but I still have horrible memories of running miles in middle school. My mind still boggles at the miles that you, amyb, and dievans rack up. You are all seriously amazing.
Anyway tonia, I think that while it is important to set goals and to support each other, I don't think we all have to have the same time frame to reach those goals. You are right to say that the important thing is to stay with the plan, not trying to lose too much weight too fast. Two pounds a week might be feasible, but it's not like our bodies know what our minds are trying to calculate. I'll be happy losing even half a pound a week, as long as the trend is downward!
Okay, June 4:
Calorie goals: 1200
Exercise goals: Double workout: 60 minute walk/hike; 45 minutes drills, 20 pushups.
Greatest challenge: if the rain keeps up I might make some weak excuses!

Greatest challenge: if the rain keeps up I might make some weak excuses!
hi all after the weekend!! ugh, mine wasn't that bad, though i felt horrible yesterday and slept almost the whole day.... i did get a wokout in, but just a regular one... today (Mon June 4) i went to the gym and burnt 500 cals on the treadmill, i think i'll do double time tomorrow - i can really use it, cause i study while i'm walking on it, so double time exercise = double time studing! :) i have to admit i feel horribly bloated lately and i have trouble getting to 1200 cals per day... oh well, it's just a short phase, i guess. weigh in on Wed!
Hi all,
You guys are very motivating. I did well eating 6/3 and my plan for today 6/4 is to eat at or under 1400 and ride 30min and run 30 min.
I have a triathlon in York, PA on 6/24 and I am pretty psyched about it. Next week I will start tappering off my workouts a little and I hope it doesn't make me gain. Weigh in Wednesday!

Monday weigh-in: 144.5 I will probably weigh on Wednesday also.
My Goal is: 139.5 by July 1st. and 134.5 by July 23. That will be 10lbs. ( I haven't seen below 140 in three years. I got to be in the Athena division for my last Triathlon (that means FAT Chicks) There is not as much competition there and very few will admitt they weigh 145 :-)
Go Dievans!! We'll be cheering you on with the Triathlon- What distance is it?
Hey everyone,
Don't get discouraged with Weigh-in this week... it is our starting point and our reality check. We could be better or we could be worse... We can do better or we can do worse- the Choice is Ours. With each others help we will do better :-)
Eugrrlll, I'll be looking forward to your weigh-in on Wednesday.
You girls who are able to stay within 1200 calories... What do you eat to keep within that limit???? Any ideas for a chick who loves food?
