I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". . I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years. Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).
I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons. I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably. I may want to go on to a size 6 next.
I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated. Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.
Let me know if you are out there and interested.

Monday: ran 2 miles; didn't do pilates; didn't count calories but tried not to over-do-it.
Today's goals: swim 600 meters; clean house; 1400 calories
No great challenges that I can think of today, but I have a big party on the 4th. I will post my driver's seat plan later.

Hello everyone!
The wedding went well, my dress fit me perfectly! I don't know my weight - I haven't weighed myself in awhile...
Canada Day wasn't so good - Had lots of drinks and some doritos! Oh well, the rest of the weekend was ok.
Now - i'm really lazy. I don't want to work out at all!

Hi Everyone,
MCPChants, three yippees for fitting into that dress!
Hope you all are having a great Independence Day.
Tuesday: didn't do my swim but did house work all day.
Wednesday: walk/ran 3 miles; upper body weight workout; Greatest challenge- not going crazy at the July 4th party. I will limit wine to 2 glasses; I will bring some bottled water to drink in between; I will only eat what I put on my plate and not go back for seconds.
Weigh-In: 144 up from last weigh-in but down -1 from beginning of forum. I'm a little discouraged, but I was encouraged when I put on a pair of shorts yesterday that used to be tight and are now loose. Considering my event filled summer, I'm glad I haven't gained weight since our forum started.
Thursday: Bike 15 miles; 1400 calories; develope a menu that will keep me within my calorie goals for the next week.

My scale is still saying 107-109, depending on its mood. I've been spending a lot of time at my computer the past week and not exercising :-( . I've been doing pretty well on cals, though, which i probably why the scale hasn't gone up. Hopefully it'll start heading down again once I get myself back into the habit of exercising.
Hello all,
didn't weigh in yesterday, but I was 138 on the scale, so I guess staying the same is better then gaining!
Glad the dress looked amazing mcpchants... hope my dress comes in soon, the wedding is only 11 weeks away.
tonia~~~ sometimes it's the little victories........ fitting into clothes has always meant more to me than a number on the scale... I don't know when I even started weighing myself... We never had a scale in our house growing up (because everyone was > 200 lbs, probably)
The midnights have got me in a funk. Tried to bike today, but the beau's tire went flat the first 20 minutes into the ride, and good thing, because the sky broke loose!! Storms galore!
Going to shoot for a short run tomorrow to keep me loose for the race on Sunday............................Monday starts the NO FRILLS~~~~11 Weeks until the wedding count down. Sorry to have to subject you all to this, but I have to tell someone or I will explode.
Monday I am going to really start pumping things up. I am going to focus on calories, cardio and weight training (can't have flabby arms) Look out ladies, because I am going to be a lean mean bride come Sept 22................................

Amy,
Your determination is getting me inspired. What kind of race are you doing Sunday.
I just know you are going to be a that lean, mean bride. Also, September weddings are great. My husband and I married Sept 15, 22 years ago.
Yesterday: 15 mile bike; didn't count calories but I think I did alright.
Today: Tri Exercise class: I am determined to keep my calorie count today (i've been bad at this lately)

September weddings sound ideal - weather wise!
So, this week was hell! Didn't exercise and ate wayyyyy to much!
I was telling myself "well, the wedding is over, time to indulge". Not good! Next week, I hope i'll be back on track.
Good luck everyone!

we leave tomorrow after I get out of work (7am) for Utica.... it's only 2 hours away, but I want to get a T shirt (yes, I am a geek!!!) Anyway, it's the Utica Boilermaker........ for those of you not from NY, it's the largest 15k road race in the country... All the Kenyans run it...... big prize money --amazing to watch... all the really fast runners, but the guys and gals from Kenya seem to really have something special... I just stand there and gape at them helplessly...........they make me feel like a "jogger" instead of a runner.....:(
so...............after that, it's back to the grind... I went to the gym today because it was too hot to run outdoors.... did 40 mintues of a walk/run combo to stay loose... (listen to me, like I am some kind of athlete..... HA!) and then I did ARMS.......
I hope the weather will be nice, I hope my dress comes in soon, and I hope I can be 120 or 125 by September....
I too have been terrible about the calorie count... but I am back. Tomorrow might be a little high, and Sunday is a designated cheat day... so Monday it is.
Have a great weekend all!

MCPchants, sounds like it's time for you and me to get back on track. I haven't been counting my calories lately and I've been eating too many concentrated foods and not enough fruits and vegetables. My schedule has gotten thrown off with company and other events...
Today: bike ten miles; crunches
i'm not sure how I would possibly count calories today, but I am going to try.
Biggest challenge: We are having about 20 people here for lunch and a house full of teenagers in the evening for game-night. There will be lots of rich food and snacks.
Plan for staying in control: Weigh myself, then take a good look at myself in the mirror and tell myself: "You could be better and you could be worse. Today, by the choices you make, you can CHOOSE which you would like to be. You are in control, not your circumstances or the food in front of you. Stop being the victim" How's that for a little self talk. HeHe
Amy, We are rooting for you. All that hard training will payoff for you. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it!! It sounds like it will be a blast!!

hello all!!! It was a hot, humid, awesome race!!! I did it in 1:33, which is exactly 10 min miles... but I am not complaining, because it was HOT!! The after race party was great..... right at the FX Matt brewery... which makes Saranac Beer!! (I had my first beer at 9:48am) They did a flyover with the fighter jets, it was quite a sight to see..... thousands of runners, just hanging out, listening to the live bands, having fun. We got home last night, had some pizza and watched Harry Potter.
Wednesday will be my weigh in this week.....
tonia....... hope all went well for you yesterday. I really have to start doing my ab workout, or my beer gut will never go away
Nothing on the agenda for the next few days (thank goodness!) and I am going to learn to just say no!!!

hello everybody, well it is monday, usually I am scared to weigh myself after a weekend and this monday I was too scared because I just came back from a long long weekend (thursday till sunday),I spend it with my parents, brothers and sisters with their families ,it was a food festival with no time to exersise ,anyway I felt that I haven't over do it as eating or drinking ,I found out that I have 6.5 pounds to go,good resullts.today as well no diet ,no exersise ,I have a lot to do at home as cleaning.tomorrow ,I will start another three diet and exersise three weeks.
Nearly all women should lose weight on 1200 a day, especially if they
exercise. However you have to be very precise in counting all
calories. Stick with foods you certain of calorie numbers...
simply cooked basic foods. Someone else's pasta salad, or restaurant
food can really throw you off by hundreds of calories. If you
make some food from scratch, actually compute the calories in the
ingredients, then divide that by number of portions, to learn how much
a portion is... can be way different than what a caloire book says.
You have to be consistant over the long run. As you lose weight, your body needs fewer calories to maintain that weight, for every 10 pounds you lose, you will need about 100 calories less. People don't understand this and may be trying to diet too close to their equilibrium point. Some people have very slow metabolisms, so say you are dieting at 1200 and would need 1400 to maintain. It would take you two and a half weeks to lose a pound... and that's if your calorie counting is accurate. If you undercount, you might not lose at all.
If you don't lose at 1200, way up your activity level. Not just intentional exercise, keep moving all day long. If you watch TV you're burning barely more calories than sleeping. So vacuum, garden, wash windows, twiddle fingers, anything.
The metabolism slowdown at the 1200 level is only about 5 to 10%, not a major factor. This will rebound within weeks after you start dieting.

Amy, great job on the race. 10 min miles for 9 mi is awesome! I wish I could have been there, you made it sound so fun.
I like the "just say "no" idea.
Go Ghadar! Great work, even with a long weekend.
Shiptona, thanks for the words of advice. It reinforces what we already know but probably need to hear again. I really don't think any of us have a problem with knowing how many calories it takes to lose weight. Our biggest problems have been our social lives and getting into spots where there is just too much temptation (fun, food and drink). Do you have any suggestions for that?
The weekend went okay. I really didn't overdo it as much as I would have in the past. I did fall into the sweet/salt cycle. I finally got out of it with some mints and a large glass of water. I feel good about recognizing it when I got into it, so I started thinking about how to get out of it. That was an improvement.
This week will be another crazy week with company, trips and lots of temptation. My plan will be to workout consistantly, drink lots of water and to not fall into mindless eating.
Today: House cleaning with Pilates this evening.
Calorie goal: 1400

Decided to weigh myself on Saturday morning even though I had some drinks and a huge dinner on Friday night. I am still down 2lbs. Now I need to lose 8lbs. Hope I can do it! My motivation is LOW!
Good luck everyone:)

Hello everyone!
I am back from vacation. My family and I went to Virginia Beach. We really had a great time. My parents and my neice also went. This changed a few things because my mother really focuses on food. But, overall, I exercised at least 60 minutes everyday and watched my portions. I did not have access to the internet so I did not count calories. I am going to wait until tomorrow to weigh in,but overall I feel about the same and my clothes fit fine.
MCP, congratulations on fitting in the dress!
Tonia, it sounds like you are really sticking to your training plan. When is your next event?
Amyb, the time just seems to be melting away before your wedding. We are all pulling for you!
Before I went on vacation, I had my yearly check up and I spoke to my physician about my last 10 pounds. After looking at my calorie intake and food choices, she suggested replacing some of my carbs with protein. Instead of always cereal in the morning, try egg beaters, instead of only yogurt for lunch, add salmon, etc. I am going to start today and try to add in some low fat protein choices. I usually limit protein because it always seems like they are high in fat also. So, if you have any other suggestions for low fat protein, please let me know. I don't eat poultry, beef, pork, eggs.
Thanks!

dievans - we missed you!! Glad you are back and not feeling like you blew it. Great job!
cottage cheese?(with a side of peach or pear slices of course) peanut butter?(Smuckers reduced fat all natural is pretty good - 2 grrams less, but every bit helps) I just made TVP and put it in my red beans and rice and it was wonderful...ever tried it? I eat a lot of fish.. .that's what gets me through... I keep a bag of frozen shrimp just in case the family is wanting dead cow.... (not great forthe cholesterol, but 1-2 times a week) Also, tuna (all white for me, I am fussy)
mcpchants - don't give up!! that's why we're here!! write ASAP and tell us what you are going to do today, that will make it easier to stick with it. you can't quit now, I still may need you to be a bridesmaid at my wedding, and I know you already have a dress!

toniahayes - the sweet/salt thing is usually pretty hard to recognize until you've consumed 1,200 calories!!! great job!! WATER WATER WATER... when you are done with the house cleaning, I'll give you my address............
did a quickie 3 miler this am... going to try and get to the gym or do a bike ride. I am stilllllllllllllllllllllllllll at 138lbs. I know I said I wasn't going to weigh in until Wed, but the scale looked so friendly this AM... boy, was I wrong!! Anyway, two days of clean eating should bring me back around. I am shooting for July 30 as my 130 goal.

Hello I'm Nalani5 and I have been reading everyones posts and I thought that is exactly where I have been for the past 3 years. Just not being able to get rid of that last 10 pounds, however I did manage to loose 5 pounds but I gained them right back.
I have five kids and God willing I am done. I am 32 years old I am 5'2 and I weigh 130, I would like to be 120. I found this web site 3 days ago and I have been counting calories. Which that is something I never did before, I felt all things in moderation is ok. It worked for many years but now I have to do something more drastic because these 10 pounds are just not coming off. I also have Endometriosis so that is another reason why I am trying to loose the pounds but I am also trying to incorporate healthier foods into my diet. I hope everyone sucdeeds.
