Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club

Quote  |  Reply
I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". .  I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years.  Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).

I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons.  I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably.  I may want to go on to a size 6 next.

I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated.  Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.

Let me know if you are out there and interested.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I am taking it easy on the shoulder. I am taking ibuprofen and it feels better when I do. It hurts without it. Still healing I guess. I am just going to try walking for now.

I weighed in at 131 today. Yea! I have stayed under 1800 calories the last couple days. Another Yea!

I am busy with all the reading I have to do for school and taking care of the family. So I should run!

Take care everyone!
Hi Everyone,

I enjoyed getting caught up with reading all of your recent posts.  I can relate to CC1170 since I am taking a Design Course that I've been working on for close to 3 yrs and it has to be finished by January.  Also, I have a week long trip coming up next week that I am trying to get ready for.  I am concerned that if I don't toe-the-line on my food consumption, then I will have the vacation weight + the last 6 lbs. to go.  I need to drop down a little before I go and determine I will try not to overeat in New Mexico.  I love Mexican Food, especially the cheese and chips.

Hmorris0506: You asked about strenth training... right now I do two reps of two exercises for each mucle group.  I use low weights and high reps which seem to work for this part of my Triathlon training.  In the past when I wasn't training for Tri, I saw good results using Body For Life, by Bill Philips.

Ohio45: You have a great attitude. I've hit a platueu also.  Although, I am not sure it is a physical platueu or a mental platueu.  The mental thing is that for a period of time I just didn't want to bother with counting my calories.  I feel the same as you about being so glad I have lost two dress sizes that it doesn't bother me too much.  I think I just needed a mental rest to say, "Okay, just do what you know to do such as exercising and eating right and this is what your new life style will look like to keep the weight off".  Hopefully, after a break like this, I will feel a renewed sense of determination to do the things it will take to drop the next 3-4 lbs.  What I believe it will take is:

Continue on the exercise path that I am on

Write everything down and calculate calories to create a healthy weight loss deficit.

Reduce salt and fat intake and avoid white sugar and white flour products.

Keep wine consumption to a minimum.

Drink cranberry water, take suppliments, and drink plenty of water.

Plan meals around vegetables

Avoid eating out but plan healthy meals ahead of time

Weigh-in weekly and stay accountable to this forum.

Keep in mind that the holidays are around the corner and are a better time to hit a platueu

Dievans: I applaud you for not giving in to the R Arthritis.  What great words of encouragement.  Once again, your workout plans always get me inspired.

Tandoship: I had to laugh-out-loud about what your daughter would say if she read our posts because mine son would say something similar along with, "Dude, if you want to lose weight just leave the last bite on your plate and if you add it up over a year it will be equivalent to fasting 20 meals". The quote from devil wears Prada is halarious. I love that movie.

Weigh-in: 142 ( not discouraged because of high sodium dinner and I tried on clothes in two stores and am definately keeping my dress size down)

Today:  I am counting calories and will keep it at 1500.  Ran two miles this morning.

Greatest challenge: I am going out to eat at a buffet which is probably high sodium. I can eat well there since they have broiled fish and vegetables.  I just need to keep track of what I am eating and count the calories.

Tomorrow: Full body weight workout; Easy Bike ride 6 miles.  This is a recovery week and I'm trying take it easy for the 5k I am doing on Saturday.  1400 calories.

Hope all is well with you all.  You all are so encouraging and I appreciate your posts so much.  I will try to check in more and not be so long winded in future posts.

BTW: Has anyone been to Santa Fe New Mexico??  If so, what do you recommend we do there?
Tonia- Enjoy your trip! I don't know if I should ever go to Mexico. I love Mexican food and could just go crazy down there!

Ohio- 20 miles! That is amazing. I think I would pass out! I walk about 5 miles and I am done, I can't even imagine. Maybe you are not getting enough calories per day, your body might be in starving mode. Maybe you should increase calories a tad.

Tando- Know what you mean about the cookies. I had to bake for my daughter's bake sale. I made a loaf of banana bread, that way I couldn't sneak any. I also made a cake for a family reunion. I couldn't sneak on that either. Everyone would see a piece missing. If it is cookies, brownies, or cupcakes I am in trouble. So I am better off not making those.

Well I didn't exercise today but went for a long walk yesterday. Every other day exercising isn't so bad. I have just been sooooo busy....I have been good about staying under limit calorie wise, so far anyway. Hopefully it will balance out.

My weight was back up to 132 from the 131 of yesterday. I didn't have much salt or too many calories. Hmmm...who knows? Whatever!

I am gonna go get some things done. Have a great day!

hi all

i have been keeping calories less than 2000 for last 15 days and buring around 2500 calories but still have not lost any weight any suggestions please

Hello Everybody! Hope your weekend is going well. I feel I need to check in here.

I have not been able to exercise at all the last few days, which is getting to me. But I am trying to remember that come Monday I will be able to. I had both girls home yesterday one with sick stomach and other went to the dentist. I also have been trying to read my textbooks in any spare time I have for my classes. The reading to me is more important than exercise and I only have little amounts of spare time. Priorities. I will get it in eventually. Besides my shoulder is still hurting me, it is not healed yet. I wish it would though. I have been depending on ibuprofen to get thru the day and night.

Weird thing is that the scale finally showed me 129 this morning. I haven't exercised in 3 days and it finally dips to the 120's. I don't get it. That doesn't give me the right motivation, now I wonder why I kill myself at all. Except I know it is good for me and my body.

I have been trying to stay under 1800 calories and have been at about 1500, sometimes under.

The weather has turned colder here in the Northeast. It is in the 50's today. I am stuck in the house with the girls. Not good when you are trying to stay away from snacks. Too many temptations and urges to eat. Cold weather has that affect on me. I want to curl up on the couch with a blankent and eat snacks.

Well that is it for now. Good luck to all of you. It sounds like you are doing great!

Hi Everyone,

I prepared a post and was getting ready to hit send and lost it all.  How frustrating.

Thanks for the encouragement about the 5K.  The weather was brutal.  I did better than the last time I did that course but I didn't make a personal record.  My personal record was in the spring after running all winter.  I did win 2nd place in my age group.  The hills were great and made me realize that I need to train on hills more.

Today I had a bad eating day.  I really started asking myself why I do this on Sundays.  What is it about Sunday that makes me want to stray from everything I know is good?  The only answer I could come up with is that I don't have a plan for my day on Sundays.  I go to church and I don't plan a regular meal.  I also let everyone's schedule or desire control my day.  I've decided to do a little more planning of my day on Sundays and see what happens in the future.

Does  anyone else have a similar day that they throw caution to the wind?

Tomorrow: Swim for 1 hr. in am and run for 36 minutes.

Undo todays damage.   Eat a healthy 1500 calories.

Have a great eveing.

hi,congratulations buddies for your efforts inexersising, you are doing great.about me ,I am a person who needs motivation when it comes for diet but not for exersising, and at last I found one because my sister has called me to tell me that she is comming to us in three weeks, well I have to make efforts and control my diet ,I hope I can lose five pounds.yesterday I did two hours of circuit training which is a mix of steps aerobics and body weight resistance, today I did two hours of workut (tighs, butt and triceps)l
Hello everyone!

Hope you are all well. Sounds like we are all pretty motivated, lets hope we can keep it up!

I have been getting minimal exercise in, but I am exercising. I am doing Denise Austin's boot camp. 20 minutes in morning. I walked a couple days last week. Amazingly the scale hit 128! I kinda think it is because I have been super busy with school and all. But nice to see it. I won't get too excited, if I stay there I will. But this is the second day at the same weight, that almost never happens.

My clothes feel a little bit looser, which is wonderful.

My goal is to stay under 1500 which I have been doing. To fit exercise in as I can. If it is only 20 min a day, than it's 20 a day, at least I am not quitting!

OHIO- 180! That's great!Keep it up.

Ghadar- you can definately lose that 5lbs! You are on your way with all that exercise!

Well gotta run. I have a dentist appt. YUK! Take care!
