Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club

Quote  |  Reply
I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". .  I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years.  Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).

I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons.  I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably.  I may want to go on to a size 6 next.

I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated.  Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.

Let me know if you are out there and interested.

Tando-hang on...don't let go yet! Maybe try having a glass of wine nearby, I know it is extra calories, but it might take the edge off. Wine and cookies don't taste very good together anyhow.

Tea, I drink lots of it warm and cold. Warm mostly, I have been drinking green for years since I heard it might speed up your metabolism don't know if it helped, but it supposedly has a lot of other great benefits as well. I like to have a cup around pretty often during the day, especially when craving a sweet snack. I put sweet n low or splend in mine. Also it helps me get more liquid in my diet. Not pure water but pretty close.

Ohio-good job at the parties with the eating, it is never easy around all that tempting food.

I need to bake some cookies tonight, I hope I can stay out of them. I made cupcakes the other day and didn't need to worry about eating any because they were for my daughter's class and I had just enough. But I am going to make white choc, mac nut, cookies today and maybe choc chip ones as well. This won't be easy. I will probably eat at least a cup of the dough before I am done. I have heard chewing mint gum while baking helps maybe I will try that...

Talk to you all later! Good luck! Stay the course! You are worth it!
Happy Holidays!

I am so glad my holiday break is finally here.

Ohio:I like the salmonela thought, I am going to try it tomorrow when I am baking.  I also brush my teeth before I start baking and sometimes that helps.  I drink green tea everyday as well.  I think it gives extra energy.

Tando, it sounds like you need to delegate.  If everyone helps, it just is so much more pleasant.  I used to try to do it all myself and would always end up cranky and then after it was all over, I would come down with a cold.

Well today I stayed under 1400 calories and after school it was 43 degrees so I ran 3 miles outside.  It felt so good to be out in the sunshine.  After the run, I did situps, squats, pushups, and other core work for a good 30 minutes.  I didn't go to the gym because the traffic was so bad.  Good day overall!

Good luck everyone!  Santa is watching!

Ohio- I loved that cake recipe. That was one of the funniest things I have ever read. If it is any consolation last night wasn't a great one for me either. I started in on a bag of pretzels without counting, never a good thing. I always eat way too many. I still don't know how many I ate and just quessed when I calculated yesterdays calories.

Di-brushing your teeth first sounds like a good idea as well while baking, I am gonna have to try that.

Well just a few more days to go. Hope you all are hanging in there alright. I have a few more last minute items to get and I am done.

Take care!
Hello everyone!

I got up early cleaned, did laundry and went to a spin class at 10:00AM.  I took a nice bath and headed to the mall.  My daughter had a few last minute things to pick up for friends and I went along.  My eating today is going pretty well.  It is almost 3:00 and I have eaten 632 calories.  Not bad.

Ohio; laughter is a great calorie burner! I am glad you are finished with shopping.  It is a great feeling.  I also loved your cake recipe!

Tando; Slow down, drink tea and plenty of other fluids, and add some vitamin C.  Hope you feel better.

Happy Holidays !

Di

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all the encouraging posts.  Di, nice to see you back too.

I'm am going to try the green tea and Tequilla Cake tomorrow.  I think I need the cake since the in-laws are comingLaughing

I was inspired by you girls who met your goals... great going!! Keep up the good work.  I was also happy for those of you who have been getting your workouts in. I haven't worked out since my 10K. Last Monday I was moving a peice of furniture  and I pulled something in my back.  Usually it heals faster than this and not being able to work out is driving me nuts.

I did venture onto the scale the other day and was very discouraged. My slacks were fitting tight today.  I've got to get back on the wagon.  What used to help me on this thread was to post my plans and then I was more likely to stick with it.  The problem is I don't have a plan because tomorrow and the next day is all about food.  I tend to use holidays and vacations as excuses to overeat.

My plan is to eat sensible, small portions.  Drink plenty of water, take my vitamins, and try the green tea.  Also, I will make some bran muffins for the extra fiber and carb cravings. Starting on Wednesday, I will begin counting calories again.  I will also check in daily on this post to stay motivated and encouraged.

Ohio, I live in Central Florida in a little town near Leesburg.  If you get a chance you might have to try the West Orange Trail for a bike ride.  If you get on at the Oakland Station you can rent a bike if you don't have yours with you.

Have a great Christmas everyone!!

Ugh! I don't even know how to count today's intake. I have eaten 3 white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, 1 brownie, 2 sugar cookies w/frosting, a small piece of sugar free pb pie (like sf matters), along with the green bean casserole, broc rice bake, antipasto, deviled egg....need I say more...I tried to be fairly good today, but sweets definately got the better of me. I could've cared less about anything other food.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Unfortunately we have a house full of cookies. I wish they were no longer here, but others in the house are eating them too. Can't just get rid of them. As much as I would like to.

I did manage to get a small workout in this morning, but better than nothing.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have lost all control! sweets have taken over my body and I have succumb. I have just this morning eaten 5 cookies and a half a brownie for breakfast...ugh! Once I start eating sugar I seriously cannot quit! I am ashamed! What a pig!

I have no friggin' will power when it comes to sweets...it is a total weakness of mine. Well thank God this holiday is almost over and the sweets will be almost over.

I handed the cookies over to my husband and said "here, you are now the cookie guard. Do not let me eat another one of these at all." We'll see what happens there. I told him to take them to work and get rid of them, but he wants to have some here for himself, he has control and can just eat one or two. I on the otherhand eat 5 or 6 at time.

I was doing so great, in just 3 days I have put on 2+ lbs. Not that it really is a terrible thing. Ever since I met goal my friends and family have been telling me how awful I look since I met goal. They feel I look anorexic. Nice huh? I am not underweight at all. I am in the healthy BMI and weight range for my height. They say I look drawn and gaunt, bony. I am happy because clothes I want finally fit me...ridiculous. When I am heavy they think I look good and I am unhappy. When I am happy and feeling good about my weight they think I look bad. I don't get it...Now they all want me to eat something....ridiculous!

Well I am eating now, and gaining, and I am freaking out about gaining too....
Hi,don't panic, it is the food season starting by halloween,Saint Barbara day,Thanksgiving,AlAdha Eid and X-mas.I did a challenge to loose 15 pounds before xmas ,i have lost 7 pounds and gain them back in 8 days eating sweets which is is the weakness of every woman.Today I did the same thing you did ,I asked the help of my family to hide the sweets,we have a lot of cakes ,cookies ,baklawa ,chocolates,I envie them they can eat moderately .anyway the food season is almost over ,we are back to the reality, welcome back.
Happy Day after Christmas everyone!

This post is so motivating for me.  I love to read what everyone else is doing.  I often think about what my eating would be like if I wasn't trying to eat healthy.  Everything in moderation is my slogan for this time of year.  Christmas Eve I went to the gym and did a fabulous step class.  Everyone in my family then went to my mother and father's home for Christmas Eve dinner.  My mom is so supportive.  In addition to all the rich food, she made steamed shrimp, and a beautiful steamed dish of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, brussel sprouts...  I made sweet potatoes to take and I made them with cinnamon, and just a small amount of brown sugar.  Everyone else said they were very tasty and you could really taste the sweet potato.  Christmas day was very calm and pleasant.  My two teenagers were very happy with their gifts and I was able to go for a 5K run in the late morning.  When I came back, I did a series of push ups and sit ups.  I stayed under 1600 calories, so I feel great about that.  I got on the scale this morning and it is exactly the same as when I came back on the thread.  I still have 6 pounds to go.  I am very happy with that.  I am going to fold some laundry and then head off to the gym for a body attack class.

My best advice to everyone is to try to find calm.  When I am frazzled,  I tend to overeat.  I am trying to allow for plenty of travel time, do chores a little at a time, and just breathe.

CC: I understand exactly where you are coming from with the comments from family.  Know that they just want the best for you and take their comments in stride.  Always do what is best for your health.

Ohio: You are right about drinking the water.  It definitely helps me.  Try a little lemon in your water.  That seems to settle my stomach and take away some of the bloat.

Tonia: Sorry to hear about your back.  Know that you have to take it easy so you can get back to doing the things you love.  When I pulled a muscle in my back, my doctor said to only rest for a day or so and then begin gentle activity.  Walking and easy stretching to start.  He also prescribed a muscle relaxant, but all it did was put me to sleep, so I didn't take it more than twice.  We have a whirlpool tub and that also helped.

Have a terrific day everyone and remember to  moderate!

Ok! Now that I have started eating I can't stop! I need to get myself under control and will be trying hard to do that tomorrow. It's too late today. I already consumed over 2000+ calories. It must be all my family telling me to eat, now I figure I could eat anything and I did and then whoa! the last 3 days I have taken in 6000+ calories. Yes, I am counting to keep myself accountable and to get myself back on track! I know I will. I just have to stay motivated and this thread is definately helping! You all are doing so good. I am proud of all of you. Wish I had been so strict. I guess I knew I had wiggle room and took complete advantage of it. Now I gotta stop, I think that is gonna be the hardest part. Well. I need to get to bed. Tomorrow is my youngest's birthday. she will be 7. Not too much planned. Dinner out with family later. My oldest daughter's birthday is on Friday and she will be 11. We are going out with her for dinner. Then I am taking them both bowling with friends on Saturday. Not too much of a celebration but it is hard after Christmas, and right before New Year's. They are lucky to get much of anything at all...not their fault. I guess I didn't plan that well...lol. No plan at all. Hope you all are doing well! Tando did you really run off with Santa? You naughty elf!
