Trying to get pregnant with PCOS
Hi I'm new here! Really would love to get in contact we ppl with same problems.
At the begining of this year I was doing soo good at losing weight and lost 6kgs I was 100kgs. Than for finanical reasons I had to cut the gym and never really went back to exercising since May this year. I kept eating healthy until last months and now I'm 98kgs.
I feel soo disappointed with myself. I was doing so good. My weight has always been a stuggle for me since my teens. We have been trying to almost two years this Nov. I really get depressed sometimes, but try to keep happy and try not to stress. [sometimes it works!]
I've always tried to do it on my own and its not worked. I've now joined here with view to keep at it and not get off course this time round, no matter how long it takes.
I invested in a Stepper this weekend. I was on it yesterday! Whoppy! it was fun.
I hope to hear from likeminded ppl. Even if you are not trying to get pregnant at least you are working to lose weight.
Any tips? Things I should be doing? I'm taking Vitiamin B complex, Vitamin C, Folic Acid and primrose evening oil [tablets].
Doc says I gotta lost at least 5-10kgs before I get any medical help to stimulate my overies to ovulate.

I recommend everyone with PCOS should read 'The Low GI Guide To Managing PCOS' by Jennie Brand-Miller. (See above) It focuses mostly on the insulin resistance aspect of PCOS which is one of the factors that gets in the way of weight-loss plus contributes to other symptoms. By adjusting the diet so that blood-sugars stay more stable this reduces the body's need to produce insulin. By making different food choices with the usual calorie control, you can make weight-loss much more successful than by calorie-counting alone. Exercise helps as well, obviously.
In simple terms, you end up eating like a Type II Diabetic. ie. You need to completely give up sugar, refined starches and most processed foods, convert to more wholefoods and eat regularly.
Good luck
ditto for what gi-jane said. In fact, many women with pcos are given metformin, which is a drug for diabetes, when they can't conceive, and then they get pregnant. Blood sugar/insulin is a HUGE factor. Stick to a low glycemic index diet and you should see good results. Also on the supplements: cinnamon caps may help with insulin control.

Hi,
I am going to start trying in January, but I lost about 60 lbs, Sorry do not know the kgs equivalent. Anyways what i did was stopped eating red meat and pork. For health reasons as well. But if you can not do this, i would suggest going organic. I am in the same boat as you with the working out thing. I just walk around my neighborhood for about 20 minutes a day or try to stay active. Good luck with everything, Keep your head up, things will work itself out! :)

Hi, I can't be of much help because I've never had PCOS, but here are some other older threads discussing PCOS in the Pregnancy and Parenting forum. You may also be able to find more info in the Health and Support forum. I think I've seen PCOS discussed there as well, but I don't moderate that forum, so I'm really not sure how much info is actually available. Hope this helps!

Hi, I have PCOS, as well. I have been through a year of trying to conceive and 3 months of fertility treatments. PCOS is basically insulin resistance. The diet help I'm using is Barry Sears The Zone Diet. It helps you to balance protein, carbs, and fats to control insulin. I can not do the normal low-carb approach or take metformin- it makes me shaky and sluggish. But, I do feel great doing The Zone Diet and it is the only plan that helps me to lose weight at all. I team that up with Calorie Count because I want to keep track of calories and other nutrients, as well.
Hope you have great success!!!!
Thanks all - i know I can take off the weight - I just have to keep at it.
I've started walking one evening and on the stepper the other evening for about 30mins.
My diet Doc says my food in-take is ok - i just need to be making a few changes. I've a target to lose 4kg this month!
I lost the first 1kg last week wooopy...!
Congrats! Keep up the good work!! Its amazing how 30 min. a day can really make a difference!!![]()
I too have PCOS. I been wanting to do the insulin resitance diet but its a bit expensive for our fixed income, so I need to figure it out and include it in our meals. I was on metformin and then clomid to concive my son. I need to do my anual gyno and ask them about help again and to get back on metformin and possibly clomid. My hubby and I have been trying since January 09, Im sure the dr will tell me to loose more weight, but I hope they are somewhat nice like that last dr I had who helped and put me on clomid after ttc for 3 years- sometimes army dr arn't the nicest or want to help. I hope your weight loss is going good :) and the dr will be able to help you soon or the greatest would be to find yourself pregnant :) best wishes! -B
