Trying to start again

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone--

Two years ago I decided to stop eating greasy fast food, frozen pizza bagels, and just generally bad food and start eating healthy. I stuck to it and ended up losing about 20 pounds. However, now, I've fallen back into my old habits. I've gained back most of what I lost and I'm noticing that I'm always tired and just don't feel as good as I used to.

Basically, I'm trying to get back into my old habits but I'm having a hard time starting. Does anyone have any tips on how to get motivated again? I remember how excited I used to be when I chose to eat something healthy over something gross-- I miss it!

Thanks :)

Oh god I'm having motivation difficulties too. I'm trying to start over and am finding it very hard to start! Especially during the holidays!

I'm not one to speak, because I can't even follow my own advice haha...but weigh yourself everytime you want to eat something bad. Generally, that works for me cause then I think I'm such a pig! Or find really hot photos of people you want to look like eg. NICOLE SCHERZINGER and just...get motivated through them!

And my numnber one piece of advice...NEVER think 'oh I'll just have one.' For example, if someone opens a bag of lollies and you think 'just one' how often do we end up demolishing the entire bag? This, generally, is my downfall. Just steer clear of bad food altogether. A taste of something always leaves you wanting more.

I hope you can get back on track, maybe if you do it will motivate me in turn!

I'm going to suggest you both formalise things a little and set yourself out an eating plan for the next few days.   Fast food, bagels and frozen pizza .... they all just scream 'disorganised'.... grabbing food on the hoof, not thinking things through in advance,  making it up as you go along, not having good food in the house, impulse eating.  I got very fat in the past by being disorganised, lazy and just eating the nearest, quickest thing to hand.   Too much convenience food = overweight... guaranteed.

So stop the rot, sit down with a pen and paper and map out, really simply what you're going to eat for the next three or four days.... mostly healthy foods, three delicious meals a day, a few snacks.  At the same time take a bin bag to your cupboards and freezer and get rid of any accumulated junk... give it away, you don't need it, it's making you fat and sick.   Then turn your menu into a shopping list and get the groceries.   When you've got it all lined up... the healthy breakfast, the packed lunch, the quick-cook evening meal with the vegetables, the fruit to have as snacks, the fridge full of good things.... you're 10 x less likely to resort to the frozen pizzas etc.

"Fail to plan and you plan to fail".... best of luck

I have 'failed' to log onto this site for the past few months.  I give 100% credit to this website for losing the 25 pounds that I have lost this year.  Then as I got closer to my goal, I was less strict and tended to to treat myself more than necessary- I blame that on the compliments I started receiving.  Thankfully, what I logged today was not too far from my last one in Sept.  But I really want to reach my goal and be healthy.  I am glad I stumbled on this my first day back in search for motivation.

gi-jane- you hit the nail right on the head!  Your post is very motivating and true!!  I am back on and I use this site to record everything, measurements, exercises/workouts, calories, food and I count on this site and the people on this site to keep me healthy!

So stripes, lets do this.. If I can do it, so can you!  Laughing
