TTC - no luck yet

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,

DH and I have been trying to conceive our 2nd kid since Sep 2007 with no luck yet. The 1st time we were successful in the 2nd month of trying itself. I was wondering how long should we wait before seeing a doctor. Also if someone has any stories to share on their TTC it would be welcome.

Thanks, Sugandhi

I have heard that you don't need to go to a doctor until you've been TTC with no luck for a year. If you did go, I'm guessing they would just give you advice, not prescribe anything. But if you are just looking for advice, you might as well go in for a consultation if you want to.

Have you read much advice online? There are a lot of tips I have seen around, as well as info on charting your cycles. Do you do that already?

Here's a link with some advice: http://www.babycenter.com/getting-pregnant?in tcmp=Nav_Global_Precon_v3

Thanks shoeofkuribo. I will look the link up. Wasnt sure of when we should really start panicking about things not working. I have just started reading on the web and trying to time my ovulation from last period. Lets see if things work.

Thanks once again.

Hi. DH and I are in a similar position. We thought we were doing everything right but still no luck. I found the web site fertilityfriend.com and started tracking my temps. It is free for 1 month, then a charge for the advanced settings. At least now I am more confident that we are timing things better, less guessing. Who knows, maybe this month is the month we get lucky!

Hi, TTC is such an emotional journey (good and bad and sometimes both at the same time) My DH and I have been ttc # 1 for over 3 years and as a last resort are trying to loose some weight to continue our journey.

You stated that you have been ttc for about 6 months and you are a little concerned since it did not take you long to ttc your 1st. Well age factors a lot into female fertility. If you are under 35 and have regular cycles then I would give it until the 1 year mark prior to visiting with your Dr. If you are over 35 or have irregular cycles then I would see your Dr.

Sunquest gave you the link to Fertility Friend and that is a very informative site that will help you to track your ovulation from your temps and CM. If you are not charting I suggest you start, also have you tried to use the OPK's (Ovulation Predictor Kits) That might be a good idea to use too. Good Luck and best wishes!

Hi,

We are TTC as well. We got birth control in November and my body took a few months to get regular again. Then we were timing our intercourse...or so I thought. I got a fertility monitor and though I thought I was ovulating around day 12-14 of my cycle, I was really ovulating on the 19th!  So we were completely missing the window.  I went to the doctor and asked if there were any concerns about not conceiving if we reached the 6 month mark. He said that he could take a blood test, but if it came back with the results he expected (meaning maybe I was having trouble ovulating), he still wouldn't do anything till the 9 month mark.  So, we are just keeping at it.

Good luck

Thanks looriec and girlafraid7. I agree its an emotional journey. Sometimes I blame myself for leaving trying for my 2nd kid for so long because I was busy building a career. Though I am 31 and have regular cycles, we had not really been charting my ovulation and just going by the 12-16 day window. Now having read on a lot of sites like babycenter.com and yourdays.com, I realise that my ovulation is more like 15-16 day and all this while we would be exhausted after trying the 12/14th day ;). So this month we have timed it more correctly and lets see.

Thanks everyone for sharing stuff, makes me feel more hopeful.

Sugandhi24 Please don't blame yourself for delaying ttc # 2 because of your career or anything else for that matter! The last thing we need to do is put more pressure or blame on ourselves! Hugs to you!

I hope that you caught that eggie and your ttc journey is coming to a positive end.

All together DH & I have been ttc about 8 years out of the 15 we have been together so if you have any questions just let me know. I am not a Doctor but after all this time I do know a lot about TTC. :)

Hi all, I have not much advice to add and just more of my story to share.

I am using the NFP method to TTC.  We get the information and temperature kit free from our church (the catholic church endorses this form of birth control --- you can also use this method to TTC too).  We've been off BC since Sept 2007, but have been using NFP to avoid pregnancy until February 2008.  So now we are in our second month of TTC and still no luck.  I think I know generally around when I ovulate, but it's still difficult to tell (I have a hard time measuring my temps at the same time in the morning and my body has been irregular last month).  I've been reading about whether you should have sex every day during your ovulation time or just every other day (b/c it takes 24 hrs for his sperm to build back up). What do you guys think?

I'm glad I stumbled onto this forum, b/c I wasn't sure how long we should be trying before checking in with the doctor. I supposed we'll go till at least 9 months before seeking extra help.

I also heard there's a really good book called "Taking Control of Your Fertility" or something very similar that I should read.  Has anyone read it??

Brianneo TCOF is a great book and a good investment. If you have a hard time taking your temps every day I suggest you join fertility friend. They have a temp adjustment options that is pretty accurate. Do you mind me asking why you have a hard time taking your temps at the same time daily? If it is because of weekends and your schedule being different daily then could you set an alarm for the same time everyday, take your temp and go back to sleep if you do not have to get up? I do this and it does not interrupt my sleeping in on the weekends. :)

Good Luck & Best Wishes!
