Tummy Troubles Worse Than Ever - IBS? Fructose Intolerance? I want to die?
i.cant.do.it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS STUPID T H I N G that is wrong with me?!?!?!
today - I woke up. Had two capsules of soluable fiber, citrucel, a crucial component of dealing with IBS (dont even know if i do in fact have that) ate one egg on a small corn tortilla like every morning now, no gluten or too much insoluable fiber, had a little bit of cooked fruit my mom made for me (plain...cant really eat raw fruit anymore) and drank water. couldn't go to the gym, stomach had already acted up. at like 1130, i made a protein shake with a packet of protein (100 calories) and a half a cup of light soymilk with a half a banana, had to do it, the consistency was not right. I also cooked half an apple and took the skin off (cant eat skin EITHER). i had a few mini rice cakes and a few strawberries too, my body is so hungry but there is barely anything i can eat and also...i am scared **** to eat.
now...I AM ROLLING in pain i dont know what to do...my stomach is so so so bloated i look pregnant. The bloat is actually gone to my midsection and upper thighs....i dont know what to effing do. I am seeing my doctor again on thursday but all the tests I have had done have come back negative/healthy (celiac, bacteria/ova, thyroid, etc etc etc) i cry all the time now. thankfully i am off of work today but i usually work nights. I was supposed to go to a theme park with a bunch of my friends and i couldnt go...no one really understands though they try. I was hoping someone would have some sort of answer. I am gaining weight because of this stupid bloat but my clothes dont even fit right because of this in the legs or around the midsection (its not FAT either...my legs are still tight as ever and i just dont get it). I cannot go to the bathroom on most days wich is COMPLETELy unlike me. I miss all the foods I used to eat, I miss working out, I miss eating out, I miss being with my friends, I miss being able to wear clothes that werent baggy on the stomach, i miss not being in pain :((:(:(:(. im going to post this somewhere else i think too but i just wanted to update everyone. thanks for reading about my troubles and being so supportive all of the time
the problem is i am lacking essential nutrients (not to mention missing out on eating pretty much anything) and am in so much gastric distress I probably wont eat anything else today...this is absolutely ridiculous. I am seeing my doctor again on thursday but dont even want to get my hopes up...what the hell is there to do? I read a lot online about Candidiasis and bought some digestive enzymes and probioitics...could this help ? anyone ahve any experience with them?
I don't know how exact your symptoms match, but one of my best friends has Chron's, and I know some of it sounds familiar... :-\ Have you looked into that, at all?? I don't know what else to tell ya, sorry! Good luck figuring it out, and getting out of pain!!
Wow, that really sucks! Lately I've been having the same sort of thing in the morning, but it usually goes away by 1pm so I really have NO room to complain. I feel for you! Keep your head up, and I'm thinking of you babe!
Hello,
I am 53 years old and have had IBS since I was 15. I totally understand your pain. I take Dicyclomine....it is to curb the pain by releasing the tightening that happens in your intestines. I take one every morning before I have problems. Any type of stress will kick in my IBS pain...and to the bathroom I go...
I also can not even drink a sip of coffee or soda if I have issues. Learn to read your body and know what it reacts to. When in this situation, Drink Lots of Water...It will add to the colon and help release what is there. Trust me the more Fiber Type stuff (tablets etc) I take the worse it is. So I limit myself on those until my body can handle it.
I have had all the tests...Colonoscopy etc.....to find that it is all IBS...and can not be cured, only to learn how to live with it.
My ex-husband had Chrons Disease and I actually experienced more pain and flair ups than he did, even tho his was a serious disease.
Also, learn how to Meditate with Colors. It sounds crazy...but whatever your mind can do so can your body. Imagine swallowing a green light or smoke and watching it run through your body and teling it to relax and release the pain. Oftern times this is the only way to help the pain.
If you need somebody to talk to....I am here!!

wow, this sounds exactly like what led to my eating disorder in the first place! I suffered through the same things for months and was obviously terrified of food. I could hardly drink water without having severe stomach cramps and eating anything put me in bed for several hours. I'm so sorry!! I know how horrible this is.
They never really found anything with me either, they did all the tests, i even had an mri done. I was never able to blame any specific kind of food either because it all hurt me. I just eventually had to realize that I couldnt just stop eating, and everything was going to hurt regardless so i might as well just eat. it finally started getting better and they did find that i have a really low thyroid due to hormone imbalances. My theory is that the hormone imbalance messed up my birth control which had been linked to gallbladder disease, but who knows. I stopped the birth control early on so they could never really test that out. The reason I think it took several months for it to ease up was that the birth control had to be filtered out of my system. Are you on any kind of hormones? Those can have some really bad side effects.
What they gave me in the meantime to ease with stomach cramping was called librax, so i took that before I ate anything. I also would go lay with a heating pad on my stomach after eating or take warm baths. Try your best to keep eating soft foods, and drinking juice. my dad has a juicer and would juice all kinds of fruits and vegetables for me. Whatever you do, please keep trying to eat what you can, you don't want this to cause a relapse! I really hope you feel better soon!
ok thanks for ALL your support
It is getting really really hard to keep telling my friends..."um no I can't come...my stomach hurts" or tell my mom "no i really CANT eat that...". I was on birth control for 3 months, hated it. and stopped. I used to take prevacid until a few weeks ago for high stomach acid....I had ulcers from it. I started takingit again after stopping for a semester...I was thinking maybe i did not have ENOUGH acid in my diet...I have read about this. But more than likely, I think it is IBS...i really do. I rarely get diahrrea, but i am always constipated. I do fiber therapy and take fiber supplements...I used to take estrogen every day for a year to induce a fake period because I did not get mine (i am/was an athlete)....and switched to B.C which i took from January to march...do u think this is related? I NEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT! I dont think this is goingto cause a relapse in me because if anything...I am scared of binging and now i cant (yay? at least thats over with) and def cant become ana again because I was only really anorexic when i didnt KNOW i was anorexic...if that makes sense....there is no going back to that. Plus, I am GAINING weight now which makes no sense bc i dont eat that much but i am. Ugh. Just ae a can of tuna and am hoping for the best, finally got a little work out spin class in and made me feel a little better oddly.
Librax? Maybe I will ask my doc about that!
awww...chickadee, I really feel for you and it totally sucks to be having stomach problems like that. How long has it been going on? Is it something that started recently? My problems were caused by stress & it seemed like it was a never-ending cycle because I could never get my digestive system back to normal, kept losing weight, couldn't eat because I was afraid of it causing my stomach pain and it just went on & on. Something that did help me is an over-the-counter digestive pill called Digestive Advantage for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It was a miracle for me! The first week I took it, I could actually eat again--foods like fried chicken, pizza, & doughnuts without any pain or digestive issues. I was in heaven! Anyway, keep pushing for answers from your doctor & best of luck.
Oh, I so hear you - I remember crying because there wasn't anything I could eat and I couldn't figure out what was causing the problem.... gluten, fructose, lactose ... the pain... the gas (oh so embarassing) ... the RUNNING to the washroom. For years my life revolved around toilet time :(
For me, flax is a miracle food - I used to use metamucil to try to get fiber (that's always the first thing they point to) but it made no difference. I'd suggest having 1 - 2 tbsp ground flax in a smoothie with berries and OJ first thing in the morning. Seriously if you only do one thing I suggest, do this.
Secondly, stop eating the protien poweders or anything that has anything you can't pronounce in it - especially sweetners. Look for only foods that have a few things in them and only natural foods.
Third definitely add probiotics - the pill kind you buy at the health food store. They are a god send. Keep track of what you eat and what triggers the pain - for me things like wild rice are hard to digest - just because it's so not processed and whole.
If you are still having problems then I'd suggest eliminating dairy (this help ALOT for me).
Hope you feel better :)

I second the Chron's theroy... my friend has it and is fine now but she had the same symtoms.
heyyyyy i definitely have the same exact problem as you, and the doctors do not know what to do. it is very frustatting bc they keep telling me its ibs too but i dont have diarhara..i get constipated like you and i have really bad stomach pains everyday no matter what i eat. i feel your pain bc i cant eat
-dairy,onions,garlic,anything spicey,basically all dressings,fruits,tomatos,tomato sauce,ketchup,mustard,pickles,bbq sauce,seasonings,anything with alot of sugar,anything with alot of soidum,chips,pretzels,and moreeeeee
basically everything upsets it and makes it bloat up and makes me look pregnant just like your saying and i cant stand it
if you find out anything or know any tips please let me know![]()
I have IBS (both the can't go kind and the go to much kind depending on what I eat and stress) I can't have Dairy, MSG, Pork & Coca Cola (weird - but Pepsi is not as bad). I started narrowing it down over the past 10 years (msg is new only about a year or so). Narrow down your food (eat one thing at a time and see if any symptoms flare up and then elimanate from your diet). I also take digestive enzymes (Mega Enzymes from Vitacost.com or any from Whole Foods or Henry's). Also - chew ALOT. Everyone has enzymes in their mouth and they are released by chewing. Just a few helpful suggestions that have helped me somewhat.
Okay, your symptoms sound a LOT like mine - bloating, better after working out, cramps, can't eat anything, constipation, possible yeast/....
I have four strains of yeast growing in my gut, plus several food allergies (most caused by the yeast, some not)
Here's what I think might be the prob from your post: I am allergic to eggs, which I saw you ate, and your reaction is EXACTLY what happens to me when I eat eggs. Second, if you think you ahve yeast - eat GARLIC and take garlic pills. That is the ONLY thing that works on them, and it is safe if yu don't have yeast (actually has anti-aging properties or something, but if you are on meds double check with your doc on Thursday)
Also, have allergy tests done for other foods, but keep in mind that you have food intolerances as well due to the yeast (if taht is the case) which won't show up. Only YOU will bea ble to figure it out. I have determined i am sensitive to gluten, bananas, rice, chocolate, dairy, nuts, and such due to the yeast and reactions. See if these help?
And good luck! I know it SUCKS! It runs my life, too :(
Oh yeah, no processed foods either. I feel so much better when I stick with protein, fruits, and veggies. Everything else = disaster!
I have what my doctor calls IBS, but talking to others and looking up information , this what they call it when they don't know!
My doctor told me to cut out certain foods e.g. Dairy and Wheat and she tried me on fibre, but i just end up on the loo every hour. Like a lot of people mine is caused mostly by stress, so treat the stress, ease the problem. Just dealing with that amount of pain is causing you massive amounts of stress.
I went to this amazing spa in Thailand on holiday and they gave me all sorts of tips, one of which was acupuncture and TCM (traditional chinese medicine) I have now been having acupuncture for a few months, my stress levels dropped very quickly and the amount of attacks of IBS have greatly reduced. Along with the acupuncture I have a pressure point head massage and take herbal tea twice a day.
The other holistic remedy I tried was Chi Nei T’sang, this is a massage of the internal organs and several treatments can help relax the digestive system. The man that did mine described my small intestine as paving slab!
Hope this help
thANKS FOR ALLLLLL THE IDEAS! I found soething called Digestive Advantage IBS which contains a BUNCH of probiotics. There are a tonnnn of good reviews online about it so I figure, hell, why not. I'll let you all know how it treats me!!!!
Schmoot - i think the alternative medicine thing seems to be the way to go, there are a bunch of theories that antibioitcs and doctors and etc etc etc actually cause a lot of problems. IT is difficult to know who and/or what to believe, I'd loveeee to go to a spa but i dont think its happenin.
Gettinghealthy - how did you find out about the yeast infection? is that the same thing as candida? If so, I hear I cannot eat ANY carbs/fruit - which....sucks. Let me know, because if I have that I am doing everything wrong. Apparently...there is not a consensus in the medical world if candida even exists but if it does...i probably have it haha.
coolness, I've taking Digestive Advantage IBS for the past 2 years & it's done wonders for me. I remember the first time I took it, it completely calmed my digestive system down. I hope it works for you as well ![]()
By the way, the company who makes Digestive Advantage had changed the formula a bit & the chewable pills have Erythritol in it, which is an artificial sweentner, so if you have a problem with those, then you might want to stay away from it. However, they also make a capsule that is swallowed instead of chewed & contains no artificial sweetners at all, which is the one I take. Anyway, it's worth a try.
so i went to this university hospital stomach doctor yesterday, like the top of his field etc....and i had a LIST of possible ailments, treatments, ideas blahblahblah ok so this guy seems to thnk its not IBS...my jaw almost dropped to the floor. The last local doc told me it was so I have been treating for that!!!!! He thinks I may have a stomach ulcer aagain (doubt it i think) or have picked up a bug up from eating something that needs to "run its course". He said he knew oit was not IBS or an allergy because of how fast I acquired this, so I was wondering, How did your IBS come on??? I have been taking DA IBS for a few days and i really think it may be helping...he told me to stop all probiotics and enzymes and just do nothing and eat a safeish but normal diet and gave me a prescription for Reglan which he said will help with stomach emptying and bloating. hmmmm
I have ulc. colitis and have recently just come off of a flare. I have alot of similar symptoms as you, even when I have it under control. My problem is, when I start to feel a little better, I try to eat & get all gross again. It makes working out really hard for me too. I have to walk, not run, on the treadmill 'cause I cramp up really bad. When I jump around alot, I can actually hear crazy noises coming form my gut & eventually cramp up again. For me, there really aren't specific things that trigger it either, it's all trial & error. My weight is constantly up & down from, not eating, eating 'cause I've been starving, not eating again etc... I don't take meds for it anymore because they made me feel way worse than the flare itself. I take a combo of vits every morning that have gotten me thru it. I take flax, fish oil (helps with inflammation), probiotics (sometimes twice a day) & psyllium. I don't know that it will help you, but it's definitely done more for me than any of the meds that were pushed on me. Just wanted to share. Hope someone can help you, for me, I've sworn off docs.
tweek thanks!
Its real funny like...who knows what is best for me? Do i? of course not...but i have researched this so much and my doctor, though patient was pretty much like "u are nuts...stop with the googling u are a healthy young girl" and im like really? cause last time I checked I am in constant pain and gained 10 lbs of bloating and constipated weight in a week, this sucks doc. I thought the probiotics and natural remedies would work but he said to stop...im curious if they could actually harm me like he said.
