TUNA- anyone have any good ways to make tuna fish with no mayo??
i love tuna salad on sandwiches but mayo is so fattening! ive never had it any other way, so im wondering what is good to put on it that is less fatty than mayo?
I do spinach salad with tuna (chunk white,) slivered almonds, and balsamic vinegar for dressing.
You may think this is gross, but I used to always mix tuna with salsa - the chunkier the better. :) Salsa is fat-free, low-calorie, and all the veggies (tomatoes, peppers, onions) are good for you.
I highly recommend Fage (Greek yoghurt, like someone else recommended earlier).
I like to mix in red grapes, onions, smoked chipotle chilies, and serve it on cracked pepper & olive oil Triscuits. That's a meal, right there.
...Great, now I'm hungry.
This might be weird...but I've taken to putting Greek Yogurt (I put it in EVERYTHING I swear!) in my tuna. Mmm...
haha whoa I just realized the person above me recommended the same thing! Guess I'm not so weird after all!
Sometimes, I'll put a little splenda in...okay now that might be weird...
EDIT: SALSA. YES.

::geeky high-five:: We are just equally weird. ^_^
I also really like it with some fat free cream cheese, and then with some cut up tomatos and egg whites. Plus with whatever spices, like paprika or herbs!
that's an absolutely EXCELLENT IDEA! i'm goingto do that for my boyfriend who HATES mayo......and he's a health nut (personal trainer) who's obsessed with Avocado! thank you!
KETCHUP!!!!!!!!!!! oh so good
also Kraft Light 1000Island is great with all fish/seafood
RELISH!!
that's what I always use, especially when I'm in a hurry, I just throw in a couple of table spoons and I don't even eat it with bread, yum.

i can just eat it with a fork straight from the can :P
I love tuna with a bit of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), some shredded cheese and a bit of coarse ground pepper but not sure how fatty that is.....
I'm glad you asked this question because now I have several fantastic ideas of what to do with my tuna. Thanks!

Tuna mixed with a little mustard, garlic powder or minced, onion powder or finely chopped and a little Frank's Red Hot sauce. Very yummy!!!
I love tuna with onion, garlic, lemon juice on a portobello mushroom.
Try mustard but not too much unless u like it tangy. or try half the amount of mayo u usually use & add chopped pickles thats tasty.
I've always loved tuna - any way!
But this is really good:
equal amounts flaked tuna with low fat cottage cheese ( I like the chive flavor is I can find it) with lots of fresh cracked pepper. Good as sandwich filling or plain.
use plain yogurt instead of mayo.

Use some Organic plain greek yogurt instead. And since the taste is soo sour, you can add chopped onions and tomatos. It taste so delicious!
I wish I'd seen this thread before! I recently discovered the BEST way to make tuna salad (or pasta salad, or any mayo-based salad) super healthy and almost as good as with mayo. I simply mix together half Greek yogurt and half hummus (generally adding a bit of mustard or garlic or whatever's appropriate for a bit of extra flavor) and use that as my "mayo." All mixed together (especially with tuna), you can't tell at all that it's not mayo. The yogurt thins and smooths out the hummus, and the hummus cuts the tang of the yogurt. A perfect combo. And MUCH more natural than all those "light" mayos-- gross.

I usually make a batch of cold pasta salad to take for lunch during the week. I use Fiber Gourmet rotini since it's low cal/high fiber and extremely filling. Mix together 2 cans tuna, 1 box rotini, diced onion, chopped lettuce, fat free or lite italian dressing and 1 cup chickpeas... It comes out to around 150 cals/per cup.
MMMM - TUNA PACKED IN OLIVE OIL! I LOVE THAT STUFF: I MIX IT WITH STEAMED GREEN BEANS, OLIVES, CAPERS, SUN-DRIED TOMATOES & ARTICHOKE HEARTS = THE COMBO IS FABULOUS!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
