I toss in a random assortment of whatever's around (not all at the same time, depends on what's in the fridge and pantry):

  • light Hellman's mayonnaise
  • apple chunks
  • sweet pickle relish
  • fried shallots
  • mustard
  • parsley
  • diced onion
  • light Parmesan cheese

I want more ideas! How do you make yours?

Yum!

I put apples in mine too, along with diced onion, kalamata olives, a small amount of mayo, a splash of lemon juice and a smaller splash of red pepper sauce.  And, of course, some salt and pepper.  This also makes a great bean salad; I just use chickpeas instead of tuna.

one large can white albacore tuna

palmful of diced onion

palmful of diced celery

salt, pepper

poppy seeds

mayo to taste, just not too much or it's not as good

leave in fridge overnight for the flavors to mesh, it's really good, I think the poppy seeds make it!

I slice grapes into mine; the sweet version is amazing. You can also use raisins but the juiciness of the grapes is the best..

Or you can go for savory and put mustard and curry powder in it. Really good!

tuna, lettuce, cherry tomato, onion, basil, chives, parsley, pepper, oregano, lime juice.

I just made the best salad tonight!  It was a mix of:

  • Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Chicken breast chunks
  • Shredded cheese
  • Olive Oil
  • Salsa
  • dab of Ranch
It was like a southwest ranch salad! MMMMMM

In mine I put:

-chopped cashews

-Celery chunks

-light mayo

-red and yellow bell pepper chunks

-salt and pepper

It has the perfect blend of textures.

chopped celery, grapes, apple, mustard, light mayo, red onion, avocado, a little lemon juice, pepper, & tuna or chicken chunks(obviously :) I chop everything and usually eat it on toasted wheat bread. Or for a melt I add some shredded cheddar cheese put it on bread and stick it in the toaster oven till the breads toasted/cheese is melted. mmm I might have to make that for lunch :)

I like the idea of adding some chopped cashews too..or maybe almonds :)

-diced chicken breast, red grapes, diced apples, sliced almonds, capers (optional), diced celery, equal parts mayo and mango chutney-

...so good it hurts...

I've had it before with shredded carrot and chopped green olives, which is a variety I haven't seen posted here yet.

Also, curry chicken salad is very good, with chopped apples and raisins.

chopped baby kosher pickles, light miracle whip, pepper and a baby amount of celery salt.

Num Num

Oooh poppy seeds. Creative. Salsa and chutney are also some ideas I can work with.

A little wary about the grapes though (not sure if the sudden bursts of juiciness are my thing) :P

Also, albacore all the way. I recently discovered the taste difference; it's definitely a lot less 'fishy' than regular.

I like to use plain yogurt as a replacement for the mayonaise. Once it's all mixed together, you can't tell the difference at all.

I actually made a tuna melt last night and was thinking how bored I was at the thought of tuna salad made with mayo...so I looked at what I had in the pantry and made the tuna salad part of the tuna melt by making my own creation that I like to call "Basil Pesto Mustard".  Adjust this recipe based on how much tuna salad you're making.

Put a few tablespoons of spicy/golden mustard, a few handfuls of fresh basil leaves, salt/pepper, a few DROPS of extra virgin olive oil, and a few drops of lemon juice into a food processer and pulse to thoroughly combine.

Finely chop a stalk of celery and a quarter of an onion. Mix the basil pesto mustard, onion, and celery with light albacore tuna packed in water and enjoy!
sauvignon, cut the grapes in half, that cuts the bursting from happening. :)  Do try it, you'll be amazed at how these flavors compliment each other.
