Hi,

I was talking with a friend the other day and she has started this DVD workout called " Turbo Jam". She has lost almost 20 pounds in a little over 2 months. I was wondering in any one else has tried it and if it worked for them or if any one has any advise. This is the first time i've tried to lose wieght and i need to drop 40 pounds, but i want to do it the healthy way so that it stays off...is 20 pound in under 3 months realistic?

Thanks for any help!

You are going to find a lot of Turbo Jam enthusiasts here, including me.  I just recently started it, and I love it!  I like the fact that it's a little bit kickboxing, a little bit hip hop, and some good ab work.  Some people don't care for the peppy style of Chalene Johnson, but I like her.

20 pounds in three months is a little under 2 lbs a week, so yeah, that's realistic if you stick to your exercise and calorie goals.

Keep coming back for great tips and support - Good luck!

Hi, c_girl! Last year, I started my weight loss journey using Turbo Jam. I absolutely LOVED IT! It's a great way to get your exercise, it's very upbeat and fun and you barely even realize you're actually exercising Smile

It takes a little getting used to, because the cardio videos have a lot of fast-paced dance moves. The weight lifting video is great too. I have been been doing Turbo Jam for almost a year and it really has helped scuplt my body. My stomach is much flatter and it has given me abs, and I am more muscular in my arms and my legs, and I have of course dropped a lot if weight. But for me, I pay more attention to the inches I lost as opposed to the scale numbers and Turbo Jam DEFINITELY helps with getting rid of all kinds of inches.

I still do Turbo Jam cardio videos because I am in love with it, but the weight lifting one became a little too easy for me so I am doing other videos (Get Ripped! By Jari Love) for my weights. I would definitely reccommend giving Turbo Jam a try!! It's a really fun and pretty intense workout Laughing

Great! That's really what i wanted to hear!

it's SOOOO much fun!!!

buy it! it's addicting!

That's great! I received my DVD with the 5 different workouts today. So, i'll see how it goes when i try it out tomorrow. Do you have any suggestions for the 10 kick start? it doesn't seem like it's much food.

try the 20-minute workout(after you do the 'learn' segment). its good for a beginner!

i think the plan is 1200 calories. i personally wouldnt do it because the b-fast is SO small &i find that when i have bigger b-fast i am MUCH less hungry throughout the day.

how old are you? you sound young.

Thanks for the compliment...i just turned 26. I've just never been on a diet before and i want to make sure i do it right. So, i'm a little confused about what is best. I've been doing a lot on online searching, but it's great that they have this forum for people to ask questions.

yeah, this forum is fantastic! if tyyou ever have any questions be sure to PM. but the kick start plan... i wouldnt do it if i were you.... its insane. 1200 cals WITH 45 minutes of exercising, thats just too etreme &may lead to compulsive eating/binging. ive found nice &slow is the way to go!

That's a good thought. I didn't really pay attention to how many calories it was a day, because it lists the foods for the 1o days. So, i was plugging it into the calorie counter in here and it was like 1093 calories....so i think i'll add some more stuff to the list, but keep the calories at about 1500.

The dvd was great though. I did the learn and burn this morning! It was really pumping. So, i'll do it again after work. I'm excited about this....and that's a little weird for me. i've never really been one for exercise, but there is a first time for everything.

Thanks for the advise and i'll let you know if i have any questions, i really appriciate you helping me!

ahh learn is boring! the 20 minute workout rocks my socks! 1500 sounds really good! do you know what foods you should be eating? i love to educate people on nutrition!

i actually dont think she's too peppy! she awesome!! haha, cool to know you like her too!

Hi I have been doing turbo jam about 3-4x a week for about  3 weeks and although I like doing and rarely notice the time spent doing it, Ihavent lost weight.  I do think that my stomach is getting flatter and so even if I lose inches and tone up Ill TAKE IT!

and I also love chalenes peppy- put- a -smile on attitude!

I just bought it online and i  honestly cant wait till i get it in the mail  , you guys r making me all excited, lol!

I'm really enjoying it. I've been doing the 20 minute and the ab jam. So, far in the past week i'm 3 pounds down, but i have way more energy. I really don't notice the time that it takes to do it...so that's a plus!

I'm staying away from fast food and adding a lot of veg and fruit to what i eat. So, a typical day is oatmeal in the morning, a salad with 3 oz of chicken for lunch, grilled fish or chicken with veg and brown rice for dinner. Then i throw in either almonds or a granola bar for my first snack and a protein shake for the other snack. The only thing i can't stay away from is my chocolate fix at night. So, i have been having those single portion microwave chocolate cake things...warm delights or something...i also drink at least 62 oz of water...but the caffine withdrawls were bad! Wink but i got through it!

Just looking through the turbo jam posts as I wanted to see what the calorie burn might be for a workout. This week I went to my dr asking him for a "prescribed" diet so I could commit to an authority figure. Thought it would help me with accountability when I see him in a couple weeks. He gave me not a diet but two edicts for now. Stay away from starches (OW!) and Cease ANY caffeine intake, even hot chocolate ovaltine, the only caffeine I do use. His reasoning on the caffeine is that the caffeine interferes with the liver function that allows us to store sugar in the liver as starch. The only other option for storage between meals or workouts is as fat! Since thursday, I have lost 3 pounds. 55 to go. He also made me hold off on actually focusing on dieting until I had sacro-illiac pain under control as the body responds to chronic pain by produciing natural steroids- cortesol I think he said. The raised steroid level makes it impossible to be successful at weight loss. And as he put it, "have you ever seen anyone who is taking Prednisone?" The other thing he arranged for me was a sleep study which confirmed my husband's claims of sleep apnea and that I stop breathing. This obviously interferes with oxygen levels and metabolism let alone destroying brain cells. Love my doc as he is really helping me sort things out.

I'm eating everything else and keeping a calorie log. It is amazing how much you can eat when you leave out the obviously fatty things and the starches. My husband looked at a plate(dessert size) and thought I might be overloading it. Actually calorie count for a chicken thigh cooked with leeks and orange and garlic, well under 200. Very satisfying.

I think the starch thing will change when whole grains will go back in but I think he is giving me a power start so my body will get a little change up.

I tried doing Turbo Jam and can say that I have NO coordination. So I had to get rid of it. Never a dancer, and I can't learn steps worth beans it seems :) But the video is fun if you don't have two left feet.

I also have Hip Hop abs. Bad idea for my two left feet self again :)
