TV Food and Health Personalities that you love/hate?
Who do you love, who do you hate? For me -
On chefs, I love Gordon Ramsey and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Ramsey, yes, sometimes he is over the top and swears to excess, but overall he's an awesome personality, presence and cook. Hugh Feanrly-Whittingstall: I admire his sense of ethics, and he's hilariously eccentric. (See: Hugh Fearlessly Eatsitall). Hate... Gary Rhodes ticks me off. Bloody obnoxious hedgehog.
I don't really have any health personalities I like, but I HATE Gillian McKeith. She's got her basics right - don't eat too little, don't eat too much, avoid junk foods and heavily proccessed stuff and aim to eat as fresh as you can - but the way she delivers her message and the nonsense that dwarfs her common sense... well. It's just that. The stuff she gets right is common bloody sense. And anyone that obsessed with poo is just wierd.

I'm trying to think of American food and health celebrities right now I love/hate, but I'm a bit more stuck there! But what about you? Who gets your goat and who floats your boat? o:
Nigella Lawson is my favourite tv chef!! I named my hamster after her haha.
Ina Garten's show Barefoot Contessa makes me laugh, every recipe seems to be built upon multiple sticks of butter.
And I love Gordon Ramsey!!
Lalabanana - (I'm directing this to you because I know you're from the UK..) He's not a chef or anything but do you ever watch Bear Grylls Born Survivor?? He is soo hilarious! Like wandering around in the desert trying to survive, in one episode he killed a snake, clean ripped it's head off, and then bit straight into it :| Totally raw... That was undoubtedly my favourite TV moment of 2008.
I agree with most of the previous posters, I can't stand Giada De Laurentiis. She is too skinny to believe that she actually eats anything she makes, thus discrediting her dishes (she won't even eat them).
I do love to watch the food network challenges. Usually they have four or five chefs competing to create a dish based upon a predetermined theme. The winner is awarded $10,000.00. I love to watch them!
Yeah I've never cared for (hate is such a strong word. :P) Giada De Laurentiis. Maybe it was more of a jealousy thing, but I could never understand how she could be a chef and be THAT skinny..it's unheard of.
Sandra Lee isn't too bad, but anyone else notice that she's a complete drunk? Practically every meal she does involves some kind of alcohol. So my family jokes about this. lmao.
Rachael Ray is on the fence. Somedays she can be really enjoyable to watch and others completely annoying.
Emeril Lagasse was always a joy to watch.
Alton Brown is amusing and pretty good at giving you detailed facts.
Ina Garten's show can be interesting to watch she doesn't bother me either way.
I don't really watch Jamie Oliver's show, but he's kind of a hottie. LMAO.
Gordon Ramsey is a little harsh, but he's got this harsh humor you like to watch. Haha.
All I can think of right now. :)
I Love Rocco DiSpirito. Why, because he is hot hot hot! And, apparently he can cook too. Tom Colicchio is the head judge on Top Chef, and I love him because he stays sane with all the drama chefs on that show. Gordon Ramsey is fantastic because he has an accent and every other word out of his mouth is foul. He has mad skills.![]()
I do not love Paua Dean. I think it's safe to say that if we ate her food everyday we would die in 5 years of a stroke. Rachael Ray's voice is so annoying. I want to scream every time I hear her. That's about it. Everyone else isn't very memorable.
Love- Gordan Ramsey ("your all a bunch of F-ing idiots"! He's awesome!), Giada (cause she's Italian like me), Guy (Triple D! Love watching him eat all that fattening food and living vicariously thru him), Bobby Flay (great food), Rocco Dispirito (sooo Hot! Did you see him on Dancing with the Stars? Holy Crap! and..he's single), Alton Brown (really researches his stuff and cute in a dorky sort-a way)
Mildly anoying- Paula Dean (says "Ya'll" way too much. But her sons are hot), Rachel Ray (if i have to hear her say "EVOO" or "delish" one more time...), can't remember her name, but that Reg. Dietitian that has a show of Food Network, The Barefoot Contessa (can't stand her voice tone), The Neeley's (keep expecting them to drop to the floor and start getting it on at any moment. Get a room!)

He is soooooooo dreamy!!!!! and if you think about it he is a chef! just a need to survive and i'll eat uncooked things type chef!
HATE PAULA - she only cooks things that are awful for you - and i cant stand her accent........ sorry thats rude of me, but its the truth.

poor Paula Deen - always gets a bad rap.
Old school fave: Julia Child.
Old school fave: Graham Kerr, The Galloping Gormet
(he's still around and cooking, and sober too!)
Anthony Bourdain is my number one favorite, closely followed by Alton Brown. Though one time I made one of Alton's recipes and it was gross... meatloaf full of veggies! That just isn't right. And I like Jamie Oliver, I love the way he says "oregano" it's so cute!! Hehehe. And I hate to admit, but I like Guy Fieri.
My boyfriend likes Giada's boobies.
Rachel Ray and Paula Deen are sooo annoying! Sandra Lee isn't too bad, I kinda like the whole semi-home made thing. Cuz I'm lazy like that.
Oh, and to those of you discussing Bear Grylls, I just gotta say, that Les Stroud (his show is called Survivorman) is soooo much cooler... in my opinion. Bear has a whole crew with him all the time, that give him bottled water and snacks, and sometimes he even stays overnight in hotels!! He's such a cheater. Les is all on his own, doing his own camera work for a whole week in the wilderness. Now that's impressive :] And the way Bear talks totally cracks me up, he always sounds so intense!
LOL, Bugsylover: I only watched about fifteen minutes of that Born Survivor thing, but, yes. That was tripe. Lol.
Ooh, I like Tom Colicchio too.
If we're talking old school? FANNY CRADDOCK! Heck yeah!
Hey now, I did like watching that show about Rocco starting that restaurant that failed miserably in the end. :D
If I have to hear Rachel Ray say "Back in the day", or "my mom (this or that)" or EVOO, I'm going to scream. I only watch Paula to get a look at her sons. Y'all. I love Michael Symon on both Iron Chef and Dinner Impossible. I love watching Guy Fiederi on DD & Dives. I think they ought to put Bobby Flay and Cat Cora in a locked cell for their boring personalities. I spend too much time watching the Food Network I guess. I also enjoy watching Alton Brown. Yes, Giada is way to skinny to be believeable.
I like tyler florence and most of the receipes that i have tried of his are pretty darn good. Don't care for Rachel Ray either.
hayleymajayley, also a fan of Les Stround but I understand this is his last season on discovery. Bear brylls - the dude is always eating gross stuff. It's like okay it's survival, let me eat a bug now. Les Stround is the real deal IMO. These survivor shows are some of my favorite shows to watch.
Jamie Oliver (the naked chef) not because I think he's hot, but really enjoyed his Jamie at Home show, the recipes I stole from him were rustic, fresh and delightfully good.
Starting to like Anne Burrell 'Secrets of a Restaurant Chef' great chef, though she tends to grunt and groan when tasting her food in a disturbing way.
Do not like the Neely's, besides their personality and family overkill the culinary adventure is boring and lacks appeal for me.

I've never seen that but I'm going to look out for it.. I didn't know Bear cheated :(! How disapointing.. One thing I find hilarious about Born Survivor is when he's struggling to climb up a cliff or some rocks or something saying really intensely, "This is some of the harshest terrain in the WORLD, one wrong move, and I could easily plummet to my death.." etc. etc. etc..... and the camera man is just shimmering up after him with apparent ease... hahah! love it!
girlfighting - i guess he is a chef .. he did cook SOME of the snake after all.. ahaha
On another note... I used to love Jamie Oliver back when he was The Naked Chef but recently I'm not feeling the same warmth... :( His recent series Ministry of Food was kind of a random concept.
Still like him though, my Dad uses his recipes a lot.
Like: Guy Fieri, Alton Brown, Chef Jeff, Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes, Mario Batali
Dislike: Paula Deen, Rachael Ray (though her recipes are often very nice). Giada is okay, and I like her food a lot but she's not on my super favorites to watch. Her show can be a bit boring and her habit of properly pronouncing every Italian dish or ingredient over and over gets on my nerves.
Other likes, which are not currently on Food Network: Graham Kerr, Ming Tsai, Martin Yan,

Yes survivor man is more serious, I just think Bear is pretty and his voice makes me swoon..... haha I'm such a girl.... bah!!
In Bear's defense, he's actually climbed Everest (on his own w/o the camera folks), and broken or tried to break records in all kinds of extreme outdoorsy stuff. And he was in the military for a while. Basically, though he might have a crew with him, he definitely has his outdoors-man-ship street cred! And he's adorable to boot! :-)
As far as TV people go, I love Alton Brown, and I HATE Paula Deen. She's just so annoying and promotes ridiculously unhealthy food. Also I hate that chick Padma from Top Chef. I'm always like, "Who are you? Were you looking for the Project Runway studio and got lost?" It just irritates me to see her eat because she's so freaking skinny. *shrugs* I know, it's a weird skinny bias or something, but couldn't they have picked someone average size that I'd believe was actually eating the food, and not someone who I constantly suspect is just taking bites and then spitting them out in her napkin?
Oh and I also like Bob from the Biggest Loser. I don't like his team this time, but he's way adorable! :-)
I am laughing reading through these posts b/c some of the stuff is spot on!!!
I agree that Giada probablly does not eat what she cooks judging by her figure.. usually she will just take a bite of whatever she made and thats all she probably eats for the day!
LMAO @ Sandra Lee being a drunk... it is true she always makes an alcoholic beverage now that you mention it!
I can't stand Rachel Ray. Never could and now it seems she is everywhere. Same with Paula Deen. Can't stand her either.
I think Giada says the word "Shrimp" funny.
I love Gordon Ramsay. He's great.
